There is news today that midfielder Javi Marquez is a target of Newcastle United in the January transfer window.
Javi Marquez – Espnyol’s defensive midfielder or center-back
This would be a surprise if the news is true, because Newcastle seem well stocked in the central midfield position with Tiote, Cabaye, Gosling, Guthrie, Abeid and Ben Arfa all able to play there, but Newcastle may want Marqez as a central defender, although he’s only 5’9″ tall.
Newcastle are currently in joint third place with 19 points from their nine league games, and most Newcastle fans cannot quite believe how well the side is doing this season.
The Newcastle manager Alan Pardew has somehow conjured up a strong squad this season, and even though four very good players have left the club this year, Newcastle still seem to have a much better squad this season than last.
It looks certain that Newcastle will sign a new striker in early January, and manager Pardew also talked last week about strengthening central defense, so we expect a new center-half to be signed in January.
Alan Pardew has somehow put together a top squad at Newcastle, and the likelihood is that the powers that be at Newcastle will fork out the the money for the new players Alan asks for in January.
Marquez plays for Espanyol and can play in defensive midfield or at center-back, so maybe he does fit what’s needed at Newcastle, at least because he can play at the back.
The Barcelona-born player will cost around £4M, and if the news is true you can be sure that Newcastle will have done their homework on this player, in looking at him as both a player and his character and background too.
The news is that Espanyol are short of cash, and a decent offer for their home-born player could well be accepted, to allow them to balance their financial books.
In March of last year Marquez broke his leg and missed the rest of the season, and the injury occurred because of an unfortunate clash with team-mate Ivan Alonso, as both players challenged for a loose ball.
Marquez has played 52 times for Espanyol with three goals since 2009.

Comment #1Man Utd has to be as good as they can be now, really been a boring match so far.
When City scored they had only had 35% possession vs Utd 65%.
Thats what world class players can do for u…
Possession doesn’t matter much when there’s no pace in it.
Just like us vs Wigan yesterday, had possession, did naught…
Expecting Utd to come out running now, cant loose, especially not at home to City.
On topic:
Wouldn’t think it was too strange Ed, if Guthrie, Smith and maybe anoter midfielder dissapears next window or in the summer, we should reinforce the middle with atleast one player.
Could also be that we’re preparing incase Tiote departs, or could simply be cover for Tiote at DM…
If he can be CB backup aswell, then he should be the ideal player for us really…

Comment #4Clear red there! Johnny Evans isn’t Man U standard, flat footed and unaware. One quick interchange and he was flapping. The blue tide is dampening The Red Devils 🙂
Can’t be bothered to speculate on this story.

Comment #15Hey this guy might be the perfect buy for the toon. He can cover 4 tiote jan as dcm and cover both for cb&dcm during the rest of the season and only £4m sounds like a bargain! i’ve never heard of him, let alone seen him play. so he might be crap.ha ha ha!

Comment #16Ye studsy mate, rooting for Rovers to grab the points, makes them perhaps a bit less dangerous for us in the cup, will take the edge off them a bit.
But then again, we’ve already played, i think Blackburn could be a dangerous team wednesday…
Oh, now we’re the tightest defense in the league!!

Comment #34I prefer United over City. City have spent… what? Over 150mill in 2 seasons? It’s disgraceful to football, and I hate them with a passion. Sure Utd make big money signings, but they don’t buy the league, they more often than not work for it. City full of money grabbing footballers, it’s just disgraceful.
I hope City stay away from 1st place come the end of the season, I’m going to be completely disgusted if they win.

Come on Blackburn ! (It seems a long time ago when I wanted the likes of Tottenham to lose because they were just behind us 😀 )

Comment #40Well, Man U hoped they can come back, Man C played smart, let them attack and the counter attack against 10 men, but this is how you counter attack, our players should learn from that. We had some counter attacking chances this season and didn’t use even one of them.
About Man U in general, played well I think with 10 players, better then with 11 (?!), Still think Man U are better then Man C on a normal day (11 against 11 that is).
What I want is for the Sperms to lose or at least to draw today 🙂
