We have to say that Tim Krul’s performances in the Newcastle goal this season have far exceeded our expectations.
Tim Krul with Dutch team mate Rafael van der Vaart
Tim has been excellent and has saved Newcastle quite a few times this season, and we point to his wonderful world-class save after just 6 minutes in the last league game against Wigan, as a case in point.
Tim doesn’t turn 24 until next April, and of course he is still young for a goalkeeper, and as long as he takes care of himself and avoids major injuries, he can be playing for another 17 seasons at the top flight, with goalkeepers able to go until they are 40 years old these days.
As one example of that, Edwin van der Sar, Tim’s hero and mentor, played until he was 40 years old, and he made 130 appearances for the full Netherlands side, and that’s something Tim will no doubt try to emulate.
And last Wednesday at Blackburn, Tim made some great saves to keep Newcastle in a game they almost won, after being 2-0 down with just three minutes of injury time to play in normal time.
Today manager Alan Pardew has hailed his new number one goalkeeper, but at the same time Tim will need to keep up his good form to retain the number one position at Newcastle:
“More or less from the day I arrived, Tim has been growing as a person and as a player,”
“Because he is a laid-back character, he has to be careful not to slip into complacency and I know he’s very conscious of that. He hasn’t.”
“And if he can stay where he is at the moment, he is going to gain us at least 10 points this season.”
It appears that Time Krul is still the number three goalkeeper for Holland, with Maarten Stekelenburg the number one, and Swansea City’s Michael Voom second in line, but we expect that to change before the European Championships next summer in Poland and the Ukraine.
We could well see Tim even starting for Holland in that tournament.
That’s possible if Tim keeps up his remarkable form for Newcastle this season, but he cannot lower his standards one little bit.
Tim has been at Newcastle since the summer of 2005, when he was signed by then manager Graham Souness as a 17 year-old, and he has now played 45 times for Newcastle and twice for the full Holland side.
Tim is turning into some goalkeeper for Newcastle.

Krul would be sold if a good offer came in…I would rather not talk about this tbh because I truely believe a bid will come in for him come January and that scares me

Comment #10As much as we like to think MA would sell anyone if the money was right, if you look back at the last few outgoing players the vast majority were players that wanted to leave or didnt have much of a future at the club.
I know im probably being a blind optimist but I’d like to think we’ll hang onto players like Krul, Tiote and Cabaye for at least a season or two before they eventually move to a bigger club.
That is unless we’re in the Champions League by then =P

Comment #12i think we have some very good players that would be regular first teamers in man u, tim being one of them,
i think he is a great keeper right now and will only improve, there used to say that a keeper was his best in his early 3os, and he is in his early 20s hmmm
just hope we get to keep him,

Comment #13Although I completely agree that 18m is a lot for a keeper (on football manager I refuse to pay over 8m!!) With keepers playing till 40 spending big on the right young keeper can save u millions. Assuming degea is top class then man u may not need to spend big on keepers for 15 years. Makes 18m seem a very shrewd deal! Which means if we can hang onto krul we are saving ourselves loads! Hopefully cashly appreciates that!
