Demba Ba has been phenomenal for Newcastle so far this season, with 8 Premier League goals so far.
Demba Ba congratulated by Ryan Taylor after scoring
And indeed, if Ba continues his goal scoring form then then Alan Pardew may have to rethink who he gives that famous number 9 shirt to.
This is what Demba said to the local press today:
“Yes, I nearly joined Stoke. I don’t really want to talk about them.” “They made a mistake. They have to move on and stop talking every time I am about to play against them.”
“The best way to silence them is to score.” “It is the same joy though that I had against Blackburn.” “It was special to score a hat-trick against Blackburn but I enjoy all goals.”
“Leon and Gabriel did very well. They gave me some great balls and I thank them for that.” “It was a very good night for me and for the club, the team and the fans.”
“We just work hard and it gets us results. Nobody needed to cheat.” “That’s why everybody is so pleased with the result.” “I think I am playing at a good level, but I can still get better, this is for sure.”
“I will just continue working hard. It’s going to be very tough to stay where we are, but at the moment we are just enjoying it. I am happy for the fans.”
We suppose the plan was to give the new striker signed in January the number nine short, and that appears to be Mali International Modibo Maiga, but that plan may have to change.
Demba Ba is a natural goalscorer who just loves scoring goals, and he doesn’t seem to miss too many chances does he?
It’s for Alan Pardew to decide who gets the number nine shirt of course, but if Demba Ba continues his phenomenal goal scoring form, Alan may have no real choice but the give the Senegal striker that number 9 shirt.
And one thing we just love about Demba is he’s such a modest and great lad, and he was so humble when he was immediately interviewed on Sky Sports after the game – we love the guy!
Comments welcome.

I reckon he can be….its good he works hard on it….. would be interesting to see him partner Modiba in Jan…
go Demba BA….superb lad….
2 Toon_Tom // Nov 1, 2011 at 12:47 PM
You have to earn the number 9 shirt, and he is earning it so far. hit 20 this season and its his!
3 gorgonzola // Nov 1, 2011 at 12:47 PM
I think the number 9 need sto be hard earned….as I put Dumbia in Fifa 12
4 GeordieGerman // Nov 1, 2011 at 12:53 PM
Why should Maiga be given the No.9? Surely it has to be earned.
5 Toon_Tom // Nov 1, 2011 at 12:56 PM
German > we gave it to Oba when he joined so it has been done before!!!
But i agree, it should be earned, even if that means that it isnt taken for a couple of seasons. It is a magic jersey that has to be taken seriously, and I bet that Ba knows about the history behind it alot more than Maiga/De Jong/Cisse etc……
6 Toon_Jock // Nov 1, 2011 at 1:00 PM
Didn’t Ba get offered the No9 but turned it down for No19 as that number was special to him. Believe I seen hm say this in an interveiw!
And he would say why No19 was his preference – it’s a secret
7 ilovetoon8788 // Nov 1, 2011 at 1:01 PM
Demba Ba florishes when Leon Best is playing beside him. Shows just how crucial Leon Best is upfront. How Ben Arfa is going to get in the team i don’t know.
Because Ba scores, because of the pressure Leon Best puts upfront. What a great strike partner to have.
8 zaktoon_swede // Nov 1, 2011 at 1:01 PM
great stuff yesterday, 1st goal was class. loved it when simmo gave stoke a taste of their own medicine with the towels, tony p went mad haha!
does anyone know if mali play the ANC this year? is modibo maiga a regular in their team anyway?

A hat trick at city and he can have the No9…. and he can have my wife…. everyone else has.
Why no headlines today saying Hat Trick a Treat!

It’s not about being negatives lads, you don’t undesrtand! It’s about doing the best you can on the pitch! This team could do far better, i ‘m sure of it!
Ok, so i will rock your world, just hold strong to your chair!
What about the title?
Yes, you read well, what about being CHAMPION? Not in a distant future. RIGHT NOW!

I’d like to know about Nigeria as well?
12 bambams // Nov 1, 2011 at 1:07 PM
Ba deserves the shirt. Simple as that! If we do bring someone else in they will have to hit the ground running or they will also have to take a seat behind the manager in the dugout for their chance.
Been trying to think of a match AWAY from home that made me so happy, to be fair it has to be Shearer’s last match away to the mackems!
We have had some decent results since but i thought last night the team were “worthy” of third place- christ i am starting to believe again !!!
13 niafron // Nov 1, 2011 at 1:08 PM
About Ba, he will probably not ask for the number 9. He would accept it gladly, but should another guy wear it, it would not be a problem for him.
14 Toon_Tom // Nov 1, 2011 at 1:10 PM
naifron > we dont have the strength in depth to fight Man City for the title (this year) but depending on how we develop the team, and bring thru all our youngsters who are doing brilliantly aswel then we may be contenders in the next couple of years. Lets concentrate on playing the way we are playing and geting the results that may get us into Europe/a this year, but i can not see us winning the title ……
15 soundoid // Nov 1, 2011 at 1:10 PM
May as well have a shot at the title since were up here, to come all this way and at least not visit top spot would be a bit rude like.
16 Toon_Jock // Nov 1, 2011 at 1:11 PM
Actually looking forward to the November games now, after seeing us destroy Stoke last night!
I believe we can give the Mancester clubs, at least, something to think about! We are not a pushover team anymore… Eh Stoke?!?!
17 GeordieToon89 // Nov 1, 2011 at 1:15 PM
a dont see how Ben Arfas going to get into the team now to be honest because he’s not the type of player that would compliment Ba because Ba would need to be doing all the running and winning the ball wher Best does that and leave Ba to score, Benny will never be a player that tracks players and chases them down or even wins a ball in the air he needs it at his feet
18 AshtreeKid // Nov 1, 2011 at 1:16 PM
dont get carried away, our league position after the next four games will gives us a realistic judge of what we can expect this year…

21 GeordieToon89 // Nov 1, 2011 at 1:20 PM
just think last season we hammered City at they place if it wasnt for Tevez cheating we would of won or atleast drew.. different kettle of fish this year mind..
0 maybe 1 point away to City
1 maybe 3 away to Utd
1 maybe 3 home to chelsea
a think if we come out of those games with 2 or 3 points if would be a good return but the way Chelsea nd Man Utd defend we could easily manage 7 points which would be unbelievable and would shut alot of out doubters(MOTD) up
22 John // Nov 1, 2011 at 1:21 PM
It now seems as thought the little cash we have should be spent on other area’s of the pitch like a LB and CB where wer short rather than buy another ST in Margia HBA cant get in the team obertan cud move over for HBA and play him out on the RM where is this fella Margia gona play?
23 GeordieToon89 // Nov 1, 2011 at 1:22 PM
btw we will never come close to winning the league while Man city/Utd/Chelsea are all in our league all got so much spending power at the moment
24 niafron // Nov 1, 2011 at 1:22 PM
@Toon tom
We do have the strength! We are now engaged in only two competitions. We got extraordinnary players, better than everybody here seem to realize.
Furthermore, a team, i mean a real team don’t care of development.
I don’t talk about economical football or managment. I speak of the heart of men.
For us, it’s like a science, put this guy here, buy this one, give a chance to a new lad…
FOr them, it’s not about managment, it’s a human adventure. This is about life and death, each second on the pitch.
Those guys aren’t only good players, they are friends, they are proud men. They are a team.
They can do that. I feel it, it’s not scientifical, it’s more poetic. NUFC is all abou that. DOn’t you see it? These 50,000 lads each week at St James to watch a team who haven’t won since 1969!
And you speak of logic? Speak of passion of the true heart of a champion!
SPEAK FRENCH!
We can do that, we can win this bloody thing, more and more you will believe it more they will feel it, it’s like being at the edge of terribly powerfull wave!
It’s how i feel the situation, but i’m just a foreigner. THis is your club, you suffered with it all these years, not me, so it’s up to you.
25 GeordieToon89 // Nov 1, 2011 at 1:25 PM
John – weve got to think that, Guthrie/Lovenkrands/Smith are all out of contract at end of season makes sense to get couple new lads in and implement them in the team so the can get a full few month then a full pre season.. also just noticed.. Sammy/Tavernier/Kadar/Richardson/Soderberg/Airey all run out at the end of the season also
26 ganiyu // Nov 1, 2011 at 1:25 PM

Geordie > I always said if we get 3 points against Man City / Utd and Chelski then i would be more than happy. Whether thats 3 draws or 1 win.
However > i think we can beat Chelsea at home, confident of a result and Man Utd, and could be the shock of the season and take 3 points from City to become the only unbeaten team in the league.

naifron > Excellent Post
Very philosophical approach to the game and I do understand your theory. I wont shoot you down here and will not talk negative of Newcastle, but a top 6 finish would be excellent, a top 4 would be magic, but to clinch the title would be stuff dreams are made of, and IMHO, i can not see it this year.

This Sat v Ev’ton the fans will show Pards how much he’s loved here cos he’s really taking the bull by the horns and showing his worth. Saylor admitted they totally changed their game to suit a big, organised Stoke side. Hats off to Pards, Ashley and the lads for a great start, it couldnt be better. It seems surreal at the mo and could get more surreal if we beat E’ton and go 2nd

So many different opinions about who do we bring in, does anyone know anything about this modibo maiga, i see he has a few goals this season but has anyone actually watched him play?
Pieters would be a great signing ( i know he is injured) i have friends in Amsterdam and they think he is the business.
37 boater // Nov 1, 2011 at 1:40 PM
Good points niafron. We should be delighted at the way things have been going for us. But if we want to maintain our run and push for a european spot – we are lacking in natural goal scorers on the pitch. Last time we got near the top 4 we had dyer, solano, speed, robert – all chipping 6-8 goals a season each. We have a harder working midfield now – more athletic and fitter, but if there’s one area where we lack is consistent finishers, aside from Ba.
I have a funny feeling we will do okay against the top 3, not beat them all – but maybe a draw or two and hopefully not get hammered.
We won’t get top 4 this season – fair enough, but the reason will be because the margin of victory will be too close against mid table sides without the goals scored to reflect our dominance.
So, my point is we need to introduce a goalscorer in a midfield position- marveaux, vuckic or arfa, etc.. whilst keeping the work rate we have at the moment. Do that, keep Ba fit and maybe play him with Maiga from January and the top 7 is on.
38 bro56 // Nov 1, 2011 at 1:40 PM
pieters for me would be great but do we need him now with Raylor adapting so well. I reckon Raylor is more attacking than Pieters. We are short on numbers in defence tho..
We could do with another forward for cover but do we need to fix something not broken?
39 bro56 // Nov 1, 2011 at 1:42 PM

Amazing to think that Ben Arfa, who whilst injured has been our dream player to include in our strongest team, now cannot get a place.
If the lads continue to perform, he could end up in an impact substitute role, to be brought on when things aren’t going according to plan.
It’s bound to happen in a few games.
41 petej // Nov 1, 2011 at 1:42 PM
I don’t wish to tempt fate or relax but I’m starting to think it’s time we echoed the solidarity on the field . IRS about time we all hold our hands up and say mr ashley you got it so badly wrong in the past but boy have you learned from it. I for one take great satisfaction from our squad raised from a tiny budget and laugh at opposition fans at more wasted acquisitions at inflated prices. long may this new regime continue and bring on the the big 3.

We ain’t gonna win the title this year, that’s being a little delusional. Sooner or later we’ll have a bad game (like Blackburn in the cup or Wigan at home) or a bad run of games, but it’s okay, the top teams have bad stretches too. Tottenham loses 3-0 to Utd and 5-1 to City but hasn’t looked back since. Arsenal lost to Blackburn and shipped 8!!! goals against Utd but look where they are now after stomping Chelsea, and Utd was flying high then got mauled at home by City. Bayern Munich had a shock loss two weeks ago and Barca doesn’t hit on all cylinders either every time they take the pitch (not that I’m comparing Newcastle to those clubs). Could we potentially loose 3 in a row? yeah. could we drop points against Everton? yeah. Could we get knocked out of the cup by a crappy team? yeah. But it’s all alright, look at the big picture and keep pressing on. We shouldn’t be dreaming about winning the title but we shouldn’t be shaking in our boots that the wheels are about to come off. We’ve played 10 games so far against mostly weaker teams (8 of them anyway) and we’ve done what we should’ve done, take lots of points. We’ll be fine.

I am a personal friend of a few lads who work in football under pards at whu and charlton and they’d say he’s the best manager out there to do the job in hand. they now work under him at nufc and can’t speak highly enough of pards and mr ash. credit has to be given where credit is due. to many clubs pay out lavish amounts of money for little return ( like ourselves in the past ) but I feel like we r doing it all in the correct manner
49 Andy // Nov 1, 2011 at 1:51 PM
Remember pardew saying in the summer ba can be our 20 goal a season man and many were scoffing at that. Me included – now i’d be disapointed if he didn’t get 20! We’re going to struggle when he goes to ACN.
Pardew got it absolutely spot on yday. Wasn’t pretty but great win and shows that Pardew has learnt a lot about his team and how to play stoke after last years horror show last night.

54 Sir Alan // Nov 1, 2011 at 2:33 PM
Ben Arfa will slot in eventually when Best or Ba lose form or get injured! Cabaye and Ben Arfa are on the same wave length and can tear teams apart!! When them two play we will start seeing the ‘sexy football’ we expect from the French Revolution. It was proved against Blackburn? or Tottenham when Ben Arfa came on and Cabaye looked awesome finding Ben Arfa in the hole everytime, where he is most dangerous, not on the wing. Ben Arfa is still our most talented player no matter what people say and we will see the best of him in the future. Pretty sure him and Benzema were the golden boys of French football at one point.
55 Toonfan8 // Nov 1, 2011 at 2:34 PM
Great performance yesterday, away from home, especially in Stoke…but point is we have good squad, we are in two competitions now, other teams who we compete with are all in Europe…we need CB cover and LB maybee and 1 striker, Pieters can be our CB cover and also a new LB…Maiga new striker, we dont need too many players, because they will be unhappy to sit on the bench or stand…these two would be enough this season…we have good options, against physical sides we can put Best, Obertan…against defensive sides, we can bring Marveaux, HBA…we have good jolly in Shola, Santon RB, LB, Guthrie CM…we dont need too many players…if we can reach Europe this season, then bring more players…or maybee not, and give opportunity to our young guns Sammy, Abeid, Ferguson, Vuckic, Tavernier….

WWJBD i’m not knocking the lad more stokes style. They launch it to the big men and play it to the wings. That is why we didn’t miss tiote as tiote’s main strength is breaking up the oppositions play. I wonder if tiote was fit what we’d of done.
Can only remember 1 bad choice from guthrie and he was better than cabaye last night. Both of their work rate and harrying was absolutely quality though.

Did you watch the game on Sky? If not, the post match analysis showed Jonas, Cayabe, Guthrie & Obertans constant relentless closing down. I didn’t even notice when I was watching it through at the time – too busy biting my nails and holding off a heart attack.
You’re right though, the lad isn’t “class”, but he’s exactly what you need from a stand in central/holding midfielder. Would love to see him get a new contract.

@Thump it was a good tactic from pardew. Made me laugh a few times. Especially when simpson waited for the the towel to be thrown for about 10 seconds. Looked at the ball then threw it back

So.. Are we actually getting this Maiga in January, or is it like the whole Gameiro, Gervinho saga last transfer window?
Have to say that I have not seen any direct quotes from the club saying we are interested in him, but then again. It wouldn’t be too wise to tell everyone who you are going for because they can do a quick scout and maybe hijack the deal..
Absolutely delighted we beat Stoke last night, fantastic performance and fantastic result!!

@GeordieJordy – too true, im sure many a manager could muster the same performances as him with the team hes got. Pardew all day for me.
@drongo – i wouldnt want gervinho anywhere near our team, not with that hairline anyways. he looks like a shrunken head voodoo thing off harry potter hahaha

Gervinho was quality against stoke for arsenal. Set up 2 and scored and also played well v chelsea. Course i’d have him! Don’t think he’d fit in though with the hard working team ethic we already have

108 Hebburn Mag // Nov 1, 2011 at 5:04 PM
In my opinion any squad number that has great significance to a club must be earned & the number 9 shirt has soo much significance its untrue. No player should just walk into the squad and get it, if a player proves that they understand what the shirt means to the club, if they score goals upon goals season after season & if they respect the shirt which is the most important thing then they could get it.
Demba Ba might have only been here a few months but his attitude is 100% right and maybe in the next few seasons he can earn it. I had always believed that the number 9 shirt should be kept for a player coming through the accademy who would wear it with pride but should the right player come along then it should be theirs.
109 drongo // Nov 1, 2011 at 5:06 PM
@ Andy – have him instead of whom?
HBA isnt getting a start at the moment! (cant see that lasting tho to be fair)
I think Gervinho is a pillock myself. Good player, but think we ended up getting better for less money.

111 nimo // Nov 1, 2011 at 5:12 PM

112 Andy // Nov 1, 2011 at 5:13 PM
drongo – just in the squad somewhere. I’d defo have had him but i agree we’ve done well in the market and have gone about it the right way. If pardew says his attitude isn’t good then i believe him and am glad we didn’t sign him though
113 Rotonda heights // Nov 1, 2011 at 5:24 PM
I have to agree with Ed. Ba has such a refreshing attitude. He really is such a modest, humble and unassuming guy. The sort of bloke you like to see succeed in the face of adversity and he’s had a lot of personal injury battles to overcome to finally get where he is now. Plus we don’t have to read about him being drunk on the back pages all the time like Carroll and Ranger.
Why isn’t Ranger put in to that sporting chance clinic or alternatively just kicked out ?
114 joppadoni // Nov 1, 2011 at 5:27 PM
I think he is perhaps worthy of the number 9 shirt and i dont think he turned it down when he joined either. but maybe not just yet. im so thrilled for Ba for doing so well and the team.
i think Pardew did a sterling job with tactics last night.. such a good game
115 LGFUAD21 // Nov 1, 2011 at 5:29 PM
With the way things are atm im doubting whether Maiga is worth £7million to us. Im struggling to see what he could bring to the team that Best or even Benny could. I would focus on bringing in Defensive cover.
Now we know Guthrie can put in a shift for Cabaye and Tiote. And we also have Guthrie and even Benny in CM for creativity.
But defensively we all know we lack.
For that reason I think we should hold off on striker front unless something goes wrong before Jan or we manage to find another cheap (though not free) gem like Demba.
116 Stuart // Nov 1, 2011 at 5:33 PM
Why do people say they’d sell so and so for a ridiculous fee. If our start to the season has shown anything its that you don’t need to throw money at a club to bring success a la Man City, we’ve done it with a net spend of a few hundred grand or something.
I’d rather keep our stars and let GC sniff out a few more hidden gems.
117 joppadoni // Nov 1, 2011 at 5:40 PM
I think HBA is still a midfielder of the highly attacking sort ofc. id like another class striker still for the team. the problem ofc is that it could hinder the likes of ameobi (sammy) and a few others like airie etc from coming through here and it would push some talented players into obscurity. we definitely need some central defenders but im not sure we need full backs tbh. at least no one whos mid 20′s anyways, id prefer a kid, with a future, not seen much from the academy shining in the spotlight although ive not really looked too much.
anyone have any ideas of the developement full backs?

hey lads…
i read earlier that NIAFRON talked about us becoming champions this very year.. He said it could happen, and that he thought that we would end up 4th, before the season started, and that everyone in here said he was mad etc, because of his earlie predictions..
Well i had us as number 6 before the season started, and so far i have been right about predicting 7 out of 10 games.. my mistakes have been 3 points at QPR and 1 at the stadium og shite.. swap them and the Stoke game.. The rest i was spot on.
Back to Niafron.. He is french right?!
We have brought in alot of french players with massive quality.
My point is, that a frenchman, knows more about french quality players than we do in the north, right?!
So.. him saying that we will become champions.. why not?
I honestly think we have quality, not yet been shown.. (Marveaux and Ben Arfa)
We could beat Man Utd away.. I do not know about Man City.. Chelsea at home is 50/50 IMO
Still.. I think 6th is our top aim.. Though we can fight for 4th with the likes of Spurs, Gunners and the fools..

Are we going to be another team to add to the list of great starts – hull blackpool sunderland and the like or are we here for the season and are we going to challenge up the top end? How we respond to our november results interests me. But i can’t wait! HTL
169 danishmag // Nov 1, 2011 at 9:30 PM
wwjbd..
i do respect you honesty.
the best start in 16 years, and you still say top 10..
we have played more than a quarter of the season, and we are above Chelski..
we are 10 points clear of 10th spot..
This team we have right now, looks like its only on the way up, if you ask me..
I think that we have not seen the best yet, of the team!
Wait and see.. In the coming 4 games we will see Marveaux and Ben Arfa much more on the field.
They have been rested, to become 100 % fit and ready for these top games!
and they are hungry to show what the can do..
Remember that in the games against Man C, Man U and Chelski we will meet three teams, that dont play as the teams we have already met. Marveaux and Ben Arfa will get more space, and that´s our chance!
I said 6th before the season.. And i am beginning to think, that we can end higher!
Did any of you think that we would get 3 points from Stoke at Britannia? And so easy even!?

Haha fair one mate but hell NUFC has always been a rollercoaster. The coming run of games will let us know exactly where we will be this season. @niafron ,the title lol its notrealistic really but i think with the right investment in jan we can defo cement champs league football which would be an amazing season with 3rd or 4th 2nd at best unless ashley goes and spends 100 million in jan on a rooney or something i think its gonna be really diffucult to stay in that top four ,unless chelsea goes tits up which could happen becoz there not very consistent but we need defensive cover and we have to pray are centre halfs get to january fit if that happens we will be there or there abouts near that top four spot ,if he signs an amazing match winner a mean a goal machine then we can push for top 3 but ya never know manu look shit so do chealsea and mancity well they could lose silva and dzeko to injuries and there also up shit creek so who knows i hope this is gonna be one of them fairy tale seasons where we could win it but i very much doubt it

2 AMEOBIS’ is right… lets be happy with the target our board has set. Anything better than top 10 will be brilliant, but I’ll still be very happy with top half.
178 WWJBD // Nov 1, 2011 at 10:08 PM
Why cant we finish 4th quite simply because we arent the 4th best team in the league
179 alip123 // Nov 1, 2011 at 10:09 PM
I have to say Pardew tactically is brilliant.
I know a lot of people were critical about the Perch substitution (the fact he got booked so quickly made my night as it was comical!) but it worked. It wouldn’t be the substitution I would have made but he knew what he was doing.
Another example was against Spurs. I thought we were commuting suicide by taking off Ba and Best for Shola and Benny, then taking Simpson for Santon. But they paid off very well.
I for one actually hope we don’t finish in Champions League as it may be too much progress. If I am proved wrong fair enough, we have to take this slowly.
Great team, great season and let’s get a result on Saturday
Can’t stop grinning…

Problem is with all the crazies on here thinking we’ll get CL football is that if we manage to finish top 8 – a FANTASTIC achievement actually – they’ll all be unhappy.

top 8 should b our aim but why not try for 4th we deserve to b were we r

Yeah mate very good point, personally my feet are firmly on the ground. Top 10 is the target which we have been told so we get that its been a great season
183 ToonDownSouth // Nov 1, 2011 at 10:17 PM
davy
I agree we can over achieve – especially if Santon, Benny & Marv make an impact. But it’s nicer to aim lower – exceeding expectations always feels good.
I wouldn’t even mind if we sacrificed Europa league football in favour of blending in Sammy, Vuckic, Fergie, Abeid & Tav later in the year. They’ll be important next year.
184 WWJBD // Nov 1, 2011 at 10:17 PM
I really dont get this ‘try for 4th’ stuff people are spouting…do people think once we are certain to stay up we will just stop playing. The team is trying to win the bleeding league but their target is top 10
185 PujiT // Nov 1, 2011 at 10:19 PM
I think 8 goals in less than ten starts is a sure sign of him deserving the famous number 9 shirt at Newcastle! I don’t think there is another striker in the team that deserves it or has earned it more! I can’t see anyone but Ba being the top scorer this season and he relishes every goal! give the man the shirt!!

You don’t know that yet, how possibly could you? Support the team through thick and thin, let’s see where we end up! Simple!
187 Andy // Nov 1, 2011 at 10:27 PM
Our first target is 40 points. All the players have said it. 22 points away i think.
TDS get with it! WE WANT TO WIN THE BLIDDY THING
Top 10 is improvement on last year. That is what pardew has been set by the club. It is well within reach.

I dont know what?
189 BigKirky // Nov 1, 2011 at 10:30 PM
At some point injury or loss of form will unfortunately come and that’s how Ben Arfa, Marveaux and Santon will get in.
The ‘good’ thing about them being kept out is that when they do get in the side, they can take comfort in the fact that Pardew has set a precedent that if u play well, you’ll keep your place. Which is a great policy, as long as the team is winning.
190 AP's Black & White Army // Nov 1, 2011 at 10:31 PM
8th is still par for me. Our official target is ‘top 10′, but the signals coming from the dressing room the past few months, indicate the team is confident of something a bit more special, the results are reflecting the confidence shown.
191 mikeashleyisamackem // Nov 1, 2011 at 10:31 PM
@toon down south
yes we can cement 4th this year and i think we will am not unrealistic,no one believed me the last time we finished 3rd under robson ,if the players had your attitude wed be relagated ,its czalled a positive mental attitude and you need one to be a winner thats obviously why your a loser

I think it’s unfair to say we should be challenging, given that Manchester City, Chelsea & Liverpool aren’t living in the real world.
In a few years, when they’re crippled by UEFA’s Fair Play rules (hopefully), then hopefully our long term planning will put us far far ahead of them. Excited about our reserve & academy prospects.

How old are you? My family lives here, I was born in Durham, my family support the club and I’ve been to see the team more times than I can count. Now, as I’m at University here, I go to away games.
You’re pathetic if you want the club to belong solely to people who were born in, and live in, Newcastle. Our club wouldn’t be able to pay our players without the millions of fans worldwide that the club have.
And why would a glory seeker support Newcastle? All the trophies we’ve won in the last 40 years?
Are you telling all of the supporters on here that don’t live in Newcastle they should go away???

Though I agree that the original comments of mikeashleyisamackem were ridiculous the most embarassing and cringeworthy replies are those of TDS and Dublin, the kid is 13 year old for crying out loud-all you are doing in persisting to argue with the boy is embarassing yourselves-what will it come to next on this blog-my dad’s harder than your dad? Does sitting on your computers, throwing insults at a 13 year old and cracking jokes about his ‘ma’ and ‘da’ make you guys feel all mighty and powerful? In all honesty, you may call yourself Geordies just as you may call yourselves men but what I read on here shows you’s up as cowards, with nothing better to do but massage each others conceited egos.
As for you Bills Son, well I expect nothing less than your usual petulence, you may enjoy sitting on your high horse (or is it a Donkey Bills eh?) and mocking school boys, with your daily morning updates on how you are right about everything, but I haven’t forgotten how you made a fool of yourself in the past with your own loafsome comments. To think, you’re supposedly a pedigree supporter who runs his own business, and yet you sit there swooping down on people when they show a moments weakness, even 13 year old schoolboys, shame on you.

GoalsBringSmiles – ha, ha, ha !!!!!!!
Made a fool of myself – when?
When I was one of the first to say £35M for Carroll was good business?
When I was one of the first to say that Pardew was doing a good job?
When I was one of the first to say that Ashley had a proper plan that would take our club forward?
When I was one of the first to say that not signing another CF in the transfer window didn’y make it a bad one?
When I was one of the first to say that we have a better squad this year than last?
When I was one of the first to say that getting shot of Nolan and Barton would improve our previously slow midfield?
Can’t be any of those because I was right at the time – even though you and others gave me dogs of abuse and called me a deluded simpleton who had fallen for Ashley’s lies – remember?
You can only really point to me overestimating what Ashley needed to spend to give us the squad we have. Cabaye, Ba, Obertan, Marveaux, Santon and Abeid for c£12M instead of the £25M+ they are probably worth. Do you know what – I couldn’t care less wehat a player costs – his real worth is out on the pitch. I’ll take a team of free transfers like Ba any day.
Your slagging me off now is purely down to the fact that you cant stomach I was right and you were wrong. Pathetic.

Bills
I never once called you ‘a deluded simpleton’ though I can not deny that others may have-be careful not to tar us ‘neggers’ with the same brush however, my issue with you was always that you refused to see beyond your pro-Ashley viewpoint. The two comments I refer to in saying you made a fool of yourself were firstly your claim that Ashley would reinvest at least 25m of the AC money or you would eat hay with a mackem donkey-he didn’t do this and you didn’t admit you were wrong-my argument was never that Ashley had to spend millions in order for us to compete but that the transfer business in the summer was a gamble given that certain areas were not covered, I stand by this- despite our great start to the season MA did take a risk in entering it with no left sided fullback and little backup in defense as well as no recognised goalscorer. Amazingly, and wonderfully Pardew and the lads have defied the odds in doing so well. I still however, refuse to get carried away, it is now that the winter schedule begins that we will see whether or not this tiny squad can cope. If we can hang in there until january then we are once again in a tremendous position to invest and build on what we have in order to push for a european place, but I am hesitant to stick my neck out and praise Ashley for his ‘proper plan’ when transfer windows of the past have ended in disappointment-again not becasue he didn’t spend a war chest but because he gambled in footballing terms to the benefit of finances. It’s paying off this time and MA must be rubbing his hands together, will he sell the likes of Tiote, Colo come january and get us ever nearer that self-sufficient utopia he talks of or will he build on the wonders AP and his squad have worked so far this season?
ps the second comment I refer to is when you threw your toys out of the pram and said you would never return to this Ashley-hating blog, only to do so a matter of days later. Anyway Bills, for all our debates can we at least agree that it is a proud thing to support NUFC right now and it is great that we are in the headlines for the right reasons?

Absolutely Goals – and long may it continue.
Bottom line is we are both Toon daft but Ashley has made controversial decisions over the last two years that have divided fans opinions. Including ours. I believe he ultimately wants to bring a trophy and more to the Toon and if he does that we’ll all be ecstatic. I hope to God I’m right on that one.
