There was some odd news last night, that Blackburn have put a fee of £18M on their top young winger, Junior Hoilett.
Junior Hoilett – on Newcastle radar screen
Blackburn have been trying for some time to get the 21 year-old to sign a new contract, but he has not done that, and manager Steve Kean even went over to Toronto in the summer to talk to his parents, in an attempt to get the young Canadian to sign a new new deal.
His contract runs out next summer, which means that Newcastle and other clubs can talk to him in January, and arrange at that time a free transfer to be carried out in the summer, or sign him for a small fee at that time.
Tottenham Hotspur are also interested, but one advantage Newcastle have over Spurs is that he’s very likely to get more games on Tyneside.
Many top Spurs players jut don’t get too many games in London, and Newcastle are getting a good name these days for how well they treat and bring along young players.
It’s probably a sign of how the Blackburn Indian owners Venky’s just don’t understand the game of football, that they have come out and said they will only let Junior leave Blackburn in January for an £18M fee.
Which club would pay £18M for Hoilett in January when they could get him for nothing next Summer?
Well apart from Manchester City? 😀
That was the amount Blackburn wanted to put in his new contract as a release clause, but Junior Hoilett wouldn’t sign the deal.
Hoilett scored Blackburn’s goal in Newcastle’s 3-1 win over the third bottom of the league side on September 24th, and it was a good goal from the Brampton, Ontario born winger, who can also play as a striker.
We don’t know how successful Newcastle will be in getting Junior to Tyneside, but these are the types of deals Newcastle are on the lookout for, and he certainly looks a top young player in the making.
Hoilett has so far played 59 times for Blackburn with 7 goals.
What do you think?
