Some Worrying News On Mike Williamson

There’s some bad news today that Mike Williamson is facing another five weeks out with his injured ankle.

Mike Williamson – out at least another five weeks

No surgery was carried out on the ankle, but in retrospect that may have been the best option,  as Mike’s ankle doesn’t seem to be healing very quickly.

He suffered the injury back in the Carling Cup at Scunthorpe United on August 25th, so it’s already been eleven weeks since he damaged the ankle.

Add at least another five weeks to that and it will  be four months Mike has been out when he returns,  and the danger is that Newcastle don’t really have a ready made replacement should Fabricio Coloccini or Steven Taylor get injured before Mike is fit again.

James Perch would look to be the player to come in, and the lack of cover in central defense is the reason that another center-half  is high on the wanted list in January.

Mike talked to the local press today:

“It has been difficult. There has been a bit of a setback.”  “Not to get too technical, but there are three injury sites – two have healed but one is not healing as well.”

“It is getting better and by mid-December I will be back on the training ground and then it wll be about playing a lot of reserve games to get myself back up to speed as quickly as possible.”

Mike Williamson is going to find it hard to replace either Coloccini or Steven Taylor when he does get back, and he knows that.

But that doesn’t stop Mike from being so upbeat about how well the club are performing this season.

Williamson continued:

“There are no mixed feelings for me.”  “I have just enjoyed seeing the lads doing well. People have said to me ‘are you gutted it will be difficult to get back in?’

“Competition is healthy. I would much rather come into a team doing well than a team scrapping around at the bottom of the league.”

“It is nice to step into a team doing well. It will be difficult to get back in but why worry about it?”

“I will work as hard as I can and hopefully earn my place, but I would much rather we were doing well.”

We’ve always been big fans of the former Watford player, and one reason for that is that he’s such a top professional and a good lad.

Alan Pardew has somehow managed to keep every player thinking about the team this season, and not what their individual plights may be.

And that’s just one reason why Alan Pardew’s new Newcastle United side have done so well this season, and long may it continue.

I can’t see him breaking up Colo and Taylor right away, but I love this player, and there is nobody else right now I would rather have backing those 2 players up.

We should be ok for cb cover coz Tavernier is back from his loan spell, he’s an improvement on Perch at least!
I would love to know why Kadar has gone right down in The manager & coaches estimations though?

Whoa, what’s with all the Williamson hate? He’s a great, no nonsense centre back. Before this season I MUCH preferred him to Steven Taylor. Taylor is only doing so well because he’s been playing constantly with Colo and had all this extra defensive training. Williamson won’t slot back in because the reason we’re doing so well is the continuity at the back. He’s easily as good as Taylor though, perfect cover.
