64% Of Newcastle Fans Disapprove Renaming St. James’ Park

The poll we are running to get the fans’ reaction to renaming St. James’ Park is still ongoing.

Sports Direct Arena?

But with over 2300 votes cast, 64% do not agree with the decision,  and 26% support it,  with the rest, 10%, still not sure.

Here is the poll, and if you’ve already voted the results will show up, and if you haven’t voted you can vote now.

We’d like to get as many votes in as possible.

Wait until he changes the name of the team to “Sports Direct United” Just to match the name of the stadium and the name on the shirt!!

A frightening thought, but it wouldn’t surprise me, not with MA as owner!!

I don’t mind if they change the name, but i don’t want Sports Direct ot top him. I bet that no one will pay 10 mill and the stadium will be with his new name many many more years until this two clowns are still in the club.

Any truth on The o2 Arena? That would be a massive company to get on the shirts and stadium. I for one would be happy with that. Only doubt i have is the Millennium Dome is called The o2 Arena, would get confusing!!

@7 i have a strong feeling this is all a smoke screen, they will say no one wants to sponser us and only option is to put sports direct on the shirts as well as the stadium.

give pardew 20-30 million to spend in january and all this will soon be forgotten .

just play along with the fat controller ,
the council isnt changing their signage , metro will never change the station name and no geordie will ever call it sports direct arena .

get them to put the money where their mouth is this xmas , lets see what these kind of investments can do for the squad .

any company in their right mind that takes the offer for sponsorship will no doubt bring the st james’ park back into the title . it’s going tobe pretty impossible for them to buy the naming rights and not put sjp back in there as who would want tobe associated with the discontent coming out of tyneside

Dantoon – in john hall’s interview about selling the club, he said Ashley was upfront about wanting to use nufc as a gateway into the far east for Sports Direct. There will be no buyer – various broadsheet papers have been running ‘no co. will want to buy into this toxic atmosphere, and ashley knows it’ stories.

Do not be fooled people.. no buyer means no 10m for llambias’ ‘new player’. They are systematically turning a proud institution into a cheap advertising hoarding.

It’s theirs they can do what they like. Doesn’t mean we have to like it.

The 26% – hang your heads in shame.

It was bound to anger us fans but i guess that is the way things are going money wise, every club has got to try and fine ways of keeping up with the ‘top sides’ and anyway who’s to say that when the next owner [who might happen to be a multi billionaire] doesnt re-name it as ‘st jame’s’ all over again…….

There’s no difference from what Ashly has done with what man city owner done apart from he paid 400mill over 10years do they can keep buying who they like but in principal it’s the same both put there company’s name on the clubs they own, now Ashly wants to pay to do that it’s fine

Gt89 – not true mate if u check u will find it was a 2year deal with puma n 4 year deal with northern rock but I assume they had option to pull out of northern rock deal at anytime as northern rock were struggling when the deal was agreed
N O2 is in the papers this morning as the favourite to get name ryts as they want concerts in the summer there, also forget @stjamespark no company wants to millions n not hav it’s name outright on the ground that’s why they’ve got rid of the @stjamespark from the name

Ashley bought NUFC to advertise Sports Direct. He doesn’t want anyone else to buy the advertising rights. He wants it all for himself. Stadium name, shirts and who knows the team “Sports Direct Kickers”?

It’s all part of a devious plan.

Mate you talk like this is all dead certain to happen when its clearly not. Industry experts are saying it was a bad move, that we wont get 10mill and that its a bad investment now. Huge clubs in the world cant find a sponsor and now DL has come out and torn apart our higher ground by saying he is under huge pressure to get a sponsor

Your only going from what the club has let out of its quarters and not looking at the world as a whole

davybtoon – it was 2 years for 10 million with the option of a further 2 years depending on the financial position of Northern Rock as when they announced the deal ther was outrage… also Puma have apparently extended the deal now thats why we need to confirm the new shirt sponsor by december so they can get the kit designs in motion..
Also fair enough on the @St james park point bud, av never seen the paper today so a didnt know mate cheers if it wad the o2 then it was have to be renamed for the olympics aswel lol cba with the concerts like would much prefer to have the fans play on the pitches n tht every season cant wait for tht to happen again =] but end of the day if they can do both its going to be a good income a rekon o2 could afford to pay £10million a year for the shirt and stadium like they used to pay arsenal a canny bit for they shirts

yeah ive no idea why mike doesnt cut sports direct a good deal on the sponsorship for the shirts and stadium rights , thats what the purchase of nufc was about in the first place .

id assumed he would have had all that done by now and all our squad wearing lonsgate and kangol

Everything is for sale at the right price for the fat controller. History and heritage count for nowt with him. Profit is all that matters and money in his pocket. Does anybody really think another sponsor is going to come along and pay 10 million? No, its free sponsorship for the controller. Even if he got his 10 million, does anybody seriously believe it will be invested in players? Like the Carroll money? According to Lambias there is no money available to buy new players. Funny that. The latest rumour is that big Mike is trying to sell Jackie Milburn’s statue to buy new players and if he cannot get a buyer, he wants to put a Sports Direct banner across his chest . Nothing would surprise me with this owner. You lads may not be aware of it, but this is a deeply shaming period in this club’s history and we will look back on it in horror. He is rubbing our noses in it. Everybody and everything is up for sale. He is destroying the club’s soul and some plonkers think its OK. Because he will invest every penny in new players won’t he?

There are ones on both sides of the coin but ur ignoring the bad ones because u dont want to hear it mate.

Who do you think MA/DL listened to before doing this? A expensive expert on football sponsorship deals or a sports direct ‘expert’ in retail marketing?

Either way u are taking it as a given we will get a sponsor for both fo huge amounts of money and fact is thats a hell of a lot harder than u are grasping mate. As I have said big teams accross Europe couldnt get a shirt sponsor (La Liga had a few that simply didnt have a sponsor and their league is very popular)

Ur also ignoring that MA is getting 2 years of this 10mill a year deal sponsorship for nothing
