Hard Work Is The New Culture At St. James’ Park

The Newcastle  players not away on International duty, put in three good hard days of training last week at the Benton Training Ground.

Yohan Cabaye – likely to be fit for for Manchester City

And Newcastle’s new policy of bringing in players who are hungry to prove themselves on Tyneside seems to be paying off big time,  with the summer transfer window now looking one of the best for the club for many  seasons.

Newcastle  spent almost nothing to bring in seven players in the summer, when you think that the club got around £12M for Kevin Nolan, Wayne Routledge and Jose Enrique, but if we had spent a net of £50M, fans would now be saying it was worth it.

That’s because Newcastle have made a rather dramatic leap into the big team, and even looking like a decent side these days, and have had one of their their best ever starts in the league.

Newcastle are still unbeaten  with a whopping 25 points from their first 11 games, and are 3rd top of the Premier League, the highest position Newcastle have been in since the great Bobby Robson was the Newcastle manager.

Another way of  talking about Newcastle’s start to the season, is that Newcastle have dropped only 8 points in their first 11 league games.

Assistant Manager and Geordie John Carver,  has said today there is no feeling of resting on the laurels at Newcastle,  and the lads want to press on, and are looking forward to the next game at Manchester City between the only two unbeaten sides in the football league, a week today.

John talked about the training ans the squad today:

“We’ve had three good days training this week,” “We’ll have a few days off, and come back and work extremely hard.”

“It would be easy to take our feet off the pedal, but when you’re doing well, you want to work them even more.”

“That’s the culture of the players and staff. We’ll be raring to go next week – everybody’s looking forward to the game.”

“We’ve not heard about Yohan yet,” “He needed a scan, and we hope he’s OK.” “Gabriel’s doing a bit of work with the physio, and is feeling a lot better.”

“Sylvain’s still being assessed, but Leon’s going to be OK.”

So it would appear there is a very good chance to have everybody fit except Marveaux,  Obertan and Williamson for the game at the Etihad stadium next Saturday.

Anything but a defeat in that game would be a great result for Newcastle United.

Howay The Lads!!

    Team for City:
    Krul
    Simpson-S.Taylor-Coloccini-Santon
    Guthrie-Cabaye-Tiote-Gutierrez
    Best-Ba

Bench: Elliot, R.Taylor, Gosling, Ben Arfa, S.Ameobi, S.Ameobi, Vuckic

We have to keep Guthrie in the team, he has been class in the past and should be honoured with that.

im not saying we have to spend millions on players, but some positions you get what you pay for,

look at one mr shearer, a world record fee, but paid it back many times,

there are a lot ov players out there that are valued at way more than there true value, and most teams are full of those types of players, trying to sell them on and not make a loss

Maybe we will use Jonas on the right though – City don’t really attack down the right so much so might be a waste of Spidermans defensive qualities to play him on our left.

i can’t leave raylor out of the squad. he’s building such a rapport with Jonas. does make wonder though, how much of enriques awesome form was due to a good pairing with a certain Mr gutierrez? cos Jose is looking pretty average now

It sounds to me that it’s either Santon or Sammy on the right coz Hba just don’t seem to be an option there nowadays! What’s up with that? He’s played well for us on the right before, Surely if Pardew wanted to play him there Hba would have to right?

    For Citeh.
    _______________Krul_______________
    Simpson____Saylor___Colo____Raylor
    Santon__Cabaye__Tiote__Guthrie__Jonas
    _______________Ba

I think with that midfield, we’d be able to disrupt them, especially the way Cabaye and Guthrie, charge at the player in possession, with Tiote as the second line of defence, anticipating and breaking up play like he does so well. We’d keep a lot of possession with that team, I feel. And could hurt them with patient build-up play.

Hopefully some of their players pick up niggles, during their time away, apparently Aguero already has, would be nice if Silva missed the game too 🙂

Just read that Northern Rock has pulled out. I think its in Ashley’s plan all along to rename the stadium to Sports Direct. And i’ve said it before, Ashley’s final step is to have Sports Direct on our Jersey next season. Which will happen. Guaranteed.

Considering all Man City’s attacking abilities we have to go 4-5-1

    Krul

    Raylor Collo S.Taylor Santon

    Tiote

    Gutierrez Guthrie Cabaye Ben Arfa

    Best/Ba

I don’t see Simpson being dropped but thats how i’d play it, moving both Raylor & Jonas to the right to keep their partnership up and they can take Silva together

Despite Ba’s goalscoring records I would be very tempted to take Best over him in a 451, Best has shown over the previous 4/5 games he can hold the ball up excellently and bring the midfield into this a game and relieve pressure on the defence.

That said Ba could chase long balls into the channels so its 50/50 really

why do people put raylor on the right?? simpson is a better defender then raylor raylor is just better at going forward. dont tell me he isnt a born left back… that doesnt matter I’ve seen him play RB and he is average there to, he is either utility player or RM and RM is obertan and marveux so cant see him playing there.

raylor as RB will spell trouble for us because obertan wont track back to defend like jonas so raylor will be by himself and he will fail, simpson isnt the best but he is looking better then last season alreay.

also play ba up front just for the simple fact I wud like to see him play with out tracking really far back ( now seen so best is upfront ba tracks back to link up play which can also cause us to skip the midfield and long ball it )

    krul
    simpson-saylor-colo-santon
    marveux-tiote-cabaye-jonas
    ben arfa
    ba

or the same but move the wingers up next to benny for a 4-2-3-1 formation…

people say how can u drop raylor?? ok he scored a great goal but u cant deny the fact he isnt a great defender
and if u want him in ur team it wud have to be in midfield and who do u want him to replace??

o I wudnt recomend so many offensive players for the next 3 games, but when our players are all on top form that wud be our best team

So Santon has played 5 mins of premier league football and u guys want to throw him in against the best team in the league???!! I dispair sometimes. The team will be exactly the sdame except Tiote in for guthrie and Obertan in for Marv, Im sure he will be fit, an infection should easily clear up within 3wks with some good antibiotics!

I know that a lot of you think we should pack the midfield against Citeh but they’re players are more than good enough to play through us, so i say sod it, leave the 2 big lads up front and lets go for it. Let them have something to think about and have to deal with, and lets impose ourselves onto them. Packing the midfield invites them onto us and hoping to shut up shop for 90mins is suicidal against players of silva, nasri, agueros quality! Were not expected to get anything out of the game so we may aswell go to try and wiin it! !

    Howay!!

Ed says – And Newcastle’s new policy of bringing in players who are hungry to prove themselves on Tyneside seems to be paying off big time, with the summer transfer window now looking one of the best for the club for many seasons.

Yep – I agree with every word.

What I don’t agree with though is Ed and other fans constantly slagging Ashley off and giving him not an ounce of credit or respect for having the nous to appoint Pardew and set the transfer rules to him and the scouting staff.

Ashley was slagged rotten on here for not signing a multi-million pound CF in the window yet we have Demba Ba knocking them in for fun. I said at the time that not signing a CF didn’t make a what looked like a very good window into a bad one. I was ridiculed by many as usual. Who was right?

    FFS give Ashley some credit.

    @Marty-Toon

I’ve watched a fair few City games this season and their RB’s are less attacking than their left. Their main threat and creative source is Silva who operates mainly on the left side. Aguero also tends to knock about the attacking left area.

Mancini likes Milner to play DM and although he may create chances around the right position he doesn’t play a RW until he brings AJ on.

Not sure many people would agree with you that Milner is killing teams from the right. Maybe Lawro…
