Newcastle Still Want Pieters – Other January Targets Lined Up

We have said a few times that we wouldn’t be surprised if Erik Pieters arrives at Newcastle in January.

Erik Pieters – Newcastle target in January

Newcastle were apparently very close to getting the PSV Dutch International left-back in the summer, and it’s now clear that Newcastle will further strengthen their squad in January, with the defense being one  one area we expect them to concentrate on.

It’s not that the defense isn’t playing very well,  but we just don’t have enough cover, especially at center-back. Just think the mess we’d be in right now if Steven Taylor or Fabricio  Coloccini are injured,  before Mike Williamson is fully fit again.

And there’s news in the Sunday Sun today that the deal Newcastle are trying  to strike  for the Dutch left-back may again be in trouble because of agent troubles.

Those are the people who try to make big money on the transfers of their players,  and sometimes ask for ridiculous amounts, and some clubs must even pay them their asking price.

Erik could be  particularly useful to Newcastle, because he can also play at center-back as well as at left back,  so he could be a top class utility player in defense for the Tyneside club.

It seems the deal in the summer broke down becasue of excessive demands from his agent.

The fee for the Eredivisie star, who is said to be extremely anxious to join Newcastle, is said to be around £7M, and the news in the local paper today is that Newcastle have some other Dutch targets lined up for the next two transfer windows.

The news today on Erik Pieters is that his agent demands may again scupper the deal in January, although the good news is that it does seem that Newcastle will bring in several players in a  couple of months,  to further strengthen the Newcastle squad.

The Sunday Sun is again reporting that 24 year-old striker Mobido Maiga will join in January from Sochaux, but they are saying that Birmingham’s center-back Liam Ridgewell is no longer a Newcastle target.

Other center-half targets are said to have moved ahead of him in the  pecking order, so we wonder which center-half is now Newcastle’s top target for January?

Any ideas?

ed, newcastle dont need to buy a player for 7million especially when the fans dont agree with the owners decisions.its his money and his property.
I respect the history and the tradition of the club but let all agree with what will move us forward.

The most we could pay Brutoon?

We’re one of the few prem clubs that actually run at a profit, if anyone could afford to pay more than 6m for a player its us.

I agree that we should try and get players for as cheap as possible but we arent always going to be able to discover a cheap star, in order to become regular top 6 challengers we will eventually have to spend serious money.

U write for the Sunday Sun? 😛

Would be chuffed if we got em, that would mean we’d be reaching for the European spot realistically. And the 6th spot would also be within reach.

davybtoon, i would love to see both playing for newcastle but would be surprised if newcastle spend 15 million on 2 players which will get us probably only a couple more places up the league. hope i am wrong.

Jail – I can admit when I’ve been wrong like saying all the 35mill would b spent, correct me if am wrong did I not say all summer we should b challenge in for euro spots top 7 in the league n so far I am right

All I want is bit positivity on here sometimes instead of constant doom mongering, there still people on here who won’t giv us any credit for r start to season because that goes against there prediction of us struggling this season

And as for me saying this player n that player will sign am not an agent I don’t kno who will sign its jus me guessing but damn site better than saying no one will sign n being constantly negative

There are so many American companies, it would be impossible to point a finger at one or two as potentials. Could be Apple, Microsoft, Coca Cola, MGM, etc etc etc.

I do agree with davybtoon, for once, however that conversations may well have started in the summer, it’s something I hadn’t considered. Maybe someone could check our fixtures and see where we have played in relation to where some big companies HQs are? After the USA tour MA just made sure they’d flogged as many season tickets as possible (including the last gasp sports direct style half price sale a couple of weeks ago), before informing us of the name change. Clever really, there wouldn’t have been half the season tickets bought if people knew of the name change beforehand.

Naw – only kidding – all those MOTD pundits, southern journos and SkyTV folks would have to eat some humble pie – I’d take the win at Eastlands and a loss at Old Trafford.

    On pitch management – excellent
Financial management – improving but still niggling doubts
Player recruitment – good from Carr but indecisive by Llam on contract negs last window
Player development – reserves doing really well so top class

    Agree PR side totally dire

Back on topic we are 3 short of a top half side (although hopefully this team will get there this season anyway) – CF (Modiga), LB (Pieters) and a back up CB. I’d spend the £15m and then bring in a young promising CB who wasn’t looking for immediate 1st team football (as in reality he’d be 5th choice behind the current 3 and moving Pieters into the middle – £3m?). Beyond that maybe another striker (again a youngster or someone on a free) once Loven and Ranger have been shipped out.
Thats £18-20m outlay to make us competitive as a squad and would allow us to get rid of all of the dross left over. We also have a huge volume of 20/21 year old who haven’t broken through who I would expect will get released and will allow some of the youngsters like Hooper and Streete to get a good year in the reserves.

Would like to see Pieters in as first signing
Still unsure whether Maiga would gel with Best/Ba/HBA – Luke De Jong maybe ?
Ideally another CB who would be able to cover RB or LB to give a bit of flexibility if we get injuries.
    £20m and no more !

in our current league position, the couple of places that these few new players would move us up would be into 1st & if you go with the majority that say we’ll finish 7th then add in those couple of places that would still make us a top 5 team. jus relpyin on your view =D

We mite even sell loven for a small fee in Jan coz he’s definitely on his last contract @ the toon! So if this does transpire in Jan, that leaves Besty, Shola, HBA?(not convinced this is his best pos) and Sammy but not many are convinced he’s a striker. I think he can do it tho!

Leroi, this coming window will be very interesting indeed, reading the key elements of the DL quotes, I very much doubt that they will spend big money if MA is still trying to sell the club. If we do buy then the current regime will signify their intent to keep the club as a mid-long term concern. personally I would like to see Pieters come, will take him a while mind to get adjusted.

rather save more funds for the summer.. seems that we wont be relegated so why not test how good this squad really is.. buy a left back for sure.

and also.. did anyone find it interesting that Llambias mentioned we were going to get taken over by Arabs when Keegan was there.. that was in the summer of 2008.. the same year Man city got taken over… coincidence?

Everyone is waxing lyrical on here about Pieters again!

He may or may not be a success with us? You are all adamant on here that you want to see him playing for us!
I am not so convinced, he is a Dutch International yes, but, he is still injured and is not expected to back playing until mid January. If you don,t believe me then check out PSV,s website! His replacement is the 17 year old Jetro Willems, who is not as good a player as Pieters himself but is seen as an up and coming talent who shall replace Pieters if he is sold.
Jetro would be a much better buy, and would,nt cost us much, but then heh! If you want to throw money around then go for Pieters! Sure!

When is Santon going to get his full first team debut?
He was supposed to be the” Dogs Bollocks”, when he was bought for 5mil ! Plus if Pieters would fit into our wage structure is an unknown question to which no-one here can answer!, he would,nt come and play for us for peanuts you know! Van de Wiel from Ajax is a better player, do the same job, probably for a smaller wage and would be a better buy too! Hmmmm!

While it would,nt disappoint me if Pieters was bought, i would be more pleased with two strikers:

Looks like Maiga will deffo be coming in Jan!

Luuk de Jong, Ricky van Wolfswinkel, Wilfried Bony, Any one of the above would be good signings for us! But the thing is the Arsenal, Liverpool,Chelsea and the rest are snooping around all over the place too!

There is a rumour the rounds that van Wolfswinkel is on Manures radar, but it is only a rumour!

In Carr we trust! And hopefully he has more gems in his sights, a la Tiote,Cabaye,Marvaux and Obertan ! Who are not on another clubs radar!

January is going to be interesting as far as regards comings and goings! Has Collo signed his new long term contract, or is that Heli revving up again?

I dread big money offers for the players we already have who would be snapped up by our foul mouthed Director and our Fat owner, players like Tiote and Collo and even Krul would be gone in the blink of an eye! Llambs is supposed to have said that, ” we don,t know how horrible they are!” All just to balance the clubs books and to boost Sports Direct,s Profit Margin!

So while your all stating on here which players you want the club to buy lets be a bit realistic and bring players in who are,nt going to cost too much and the right players!

If Pieters still fits and, for the right price and wage, then OK, lets go and get him! His agent is an complete Ass, by the way! He is insisting that a large wadge of the transfer funds go in his pocket, so at the end of the day!
    Pieters move may never happen!
