Dan Gosling – Newcastle Now A Threat To The Top Sides

Dan Gosling has played only five times so far for the Newcastle first team this season, but had a good run-out coming on for the injured Yohan  Cabaye in our last home game against his former club Everton.

Dan Gosling – almost scores against Sunderland

Even though Dan is a little disappointed not to get more playing time so far in the first team, it doesn’t stop him being upbeat about just how well Newcastle have done this season.

And of course our next three games are against powerhouses Man City, Man United and Chelsea, and you cannot get three games harder than that.

It’s an open question how many points Newcastle will get in those three games, with the best chance seeming to be against Chelsea at home on December 3rd.

If we can get 3 points from those 3 games, we’ll still be somewhere in the top six in the league, and then we can hammer Norwich (A), Swansea (H), WBA (H) and Bolton (A) in the next four games.

The game after Bolton is at Liverpool on 30th December, and that has to be a definite 3 points. 😀

Dan seems a good team player and he had this to say to the local press today about the upcoming games:

“The next games are going to be tough,”  “Every Premier League game has its challenges but, on paper at least, these three look tougher than most.”

“It’s going to be difficult, but we’ll go to Man City in good spirits and give it our best shot.”  “We feel like we’ve got a bit of momentum going as a club now.”

“The fans have been fantastic for us this year and they were excellent again versus Everton.” “It was Newcastle’s biggest crowd of the season and they’ve been a massive part of what we’ve done.”

We’ve been performing really well as a team and had a little stroke of luck along the way. We just try to work hard and pick up the points as we go along.”

“Hopefully, we’ve given the likes of Man City and Man United something to think about,”  “They’re obviously top sides, and they’re battling it out at the top of the table for a reason.

“I’m sure they’ll fancy themselves to beat us, but they’ll have seen us getting results week after week and hopefully they’ll be a little bit wary.”

“They’ll be confident, but you’d like to think they’ll also be looking at us as a threat.”

It looks unlikely that Dan will start the next game at Man City since there’s an excellent chance that both Cheick Tiote and Yohan Cabaye will be fit enough to start that game, and Dan Gosling could also step down to the bench for the game.

The game at the Etihad Stadium is a match between the only two unbeaten sides in the football league,  and if we can keep our unbeaten record that would be great.

But we’re looking for a good solid performance from the lads, and they make it competitive, and quite honestly,  if they can do that we’ll be happy enough.

Howay The Lads!!

It’s going to be interesting to see the team sheet for the Man City game.

    Who’s really fit?

Who’s going to play on the right wing?

Will HBA be risked against de Jong?

Will we go 4-5-1 ? Because Guthrie’s playing well and because of a striker shortage?

    I’m looking forward to Saturday.

Seriously though the kid hasent played a game in his correct position in the PL and people want him to play on the wing instead against possibly the best team in the league knowing the lad already has confidence issues

Santon regularly played for Inter as a right winger under mourinho, also played as a right wing back! He started his career as a right winger before converting to full back! He’s got good pace, excellent crossing and would give simpson protection! Think 4-5-1 with Santon on the right and Jonas on the left, cabaye and guthrie central with tiote man marking silva is an excellent idea!

Taking into account our injuries and doubts for the Man City game why not do this?

    Krul
    Simpson Taylor(S) Collocini(C) Taylor(R)
    Gutierrez Guthrie Cabaye Ba
    Ben Arfa
    Best

It might not look fantastic on paper, but Ba has experience playing on the left for West Ham and Hoffenhaim(?) he cannot be any worse than Guthrie playing the wide man.

The way I see it, this team is not made around any drastic changes, we are still keeping the core of the team, while at the same time putting in some extra creativity. We are not expecting much from Man City (or at least I hope not) so why cant we put that team out and tell them to give it a go? What do you lads/lasses think?

TDS, I have a feeling you are not giving Ryan Taylor the credit he deserves, he does not need to be babysat down the left, yes he will struggle, but tell me what left back in the league today wouldn’t struggle against City?
Taylor can look after himself, and if he cannot, we have Cabaye running around the pitch doing his defensive duties and Taylor (S), Collocini and Krul are in hot form, so I think we could get away with it if Raylor is skinned by Johnson/Milner

    4-4-1-1 vs Man City

    Krul.
    Simpson,STaylor,Collocini(c),RTaylor.
    Santon,Cabaye,Tiote,Guttierez.
    Ba.
    Best.

Subs- Elliot, Tavernier, Guthrie, Gosling, Ben Arfa, SAMeobi, Ameobi.

Have also heard Santon can play wing and coupled wii his pace and defensive qualities would give valuable cover in front of Simpson. Could also play Tavernier as an option as we need to pressure Man City like we did Stoke!

Raylor got embarrassed by Moses against Wigan on a number of occasions. I really do think he does need to be babysat. I think you might be underestimating just how much Jonas helps him out. The last 2 games Jonas has barely got forward once, because he has to help out so much.

    cestriasteve

Completely – that’s why I don’t think Raylor can stay at LB for too much longer to be honest – no matter how much I appreciate his effort and three special special goals this year!

As much as Raylors had a good start to the season like I have a feeling he would be a liability without Jonas backing him up like.

If we switched out Raylor for Santon Jonas would be able to get forward alot more again.

Also, I wonder how many times people are going to put Jonas on the right?

Surely if he was going to be played there he would’ve by now. AP obviously has no intention of switching him, just like CH didnt, JFK didnt and Shearer didnt lol.

I dont think its a case of when santons ready like TDS, I’d say he is ready already.

Its more a case of waiting for Raylor to slip up, because even though Santon would probably be the better option it would be really harsh on Raylor to drop him from the leagues tightest defence.

What you guys are forgetting is, as good as Santon might be, he has not been tested in this league before and it will take him time to get used to the pace and physicality of this league.

@Stuart, I normally agree with your views and opinions, but are you really suggesting that if we put Santon in the line up, Jonas would not have to work as hard to cover him as oppose to Raylor? He may be a left back by choice but it will take him some time before he can look after himself and cut out the silly mistakes that any footballer at his age would make.

    Who is crocked then?

I think we’ll go 4-4-2 if Cabs and Tiote are fit and why the hell not.

May aswell take the game to Citeh and try to win.

Either that or we do an England vs spain and sit Guthrie, Cabaye and Tiote in the middle and play on the counter.

Santon is going to have to play sometime so I dont think it makes any difference whether it is vs Man City or vs Norwich

    (1) Santon on the right makes alot of sence he’s quick, he’s strong and would help simpson alot on the right hand side defensively but he hasn’t started in premier league in his natural position of right back. couple of v.good pro’s to him playing there against city and 2 dicey cons.

(2)If we play HBA there there will be 0 defensive cover for simmo but alot of quality runs, skillful passing, and a few choice crosses for Besty or Ba to slam home.So with this choice we’d be mirroring city’s plans by leaving our weakest defender open to there most skillful attacker those being Silva and kolarov. There’s a couple of gr8 pro’s there & a few huge cons aswell in that plan!

    (3) Sammy would be a similar choice To HBA fighting fire with fire so to speak but he’s much less selfish than HBA & would help Danny S out alot more when man city was attacking. Sammy says ”he’s still learning that part of his game” so may not work on the field as well as it does in my head!

    (4) I forgot this until now but Dan Gosling has played in this posish successfully for Everton alot. He’s strong, he would also help DS out because Gosling has also been a RB before2, he’s Reasonably Fast and i’m sure he can hoy a few crosses in. The down side, the con is he’s not been on form lately in fact he was our worst player against Everton. This maybe because he’s one of those players that insists he’s a better CM than owt else and he see’s himself as Gerrard, Lamparrd, Barryesque CM where he gets the limelight playing the best goal assisting passes and still scoring that amazing goal, when actually he’s proficient Defencive right sided midfielder in denial!

Why are people putting square pegs in round holes against the top side in the country? Santon won’t start, never mind out of position. Jonas has hardly been held back by Raylor – he’s in the form of his life at both ends of the pitch.

cockney magpie – yeah I can see the three midfielders in there if they are all fit. Reckon we could see Sammi get some match time n’all.
