Newcastle In Advanced Talks For 22 Year-Old French Midfielder – Video

News in the Daily Mail today that Newcastle are tracking AJ Auxerre midfielder Alain Traore.

Alain Traore – 22 year-old Auxerre midfielder

The 22 year-old started his career at Planete Champion in 2004 before joining Auxerre one year later, and there is also news in talksport today that Newcastle are indeed keenly interested in signing the player in January.

The 5’10” midfielder made his first team debut for Auxerre back  in 2006, and he has played 33 times for the French club with 10 goals.

Alain has played 15 times for the Burkina Faso National side, but the news is that he may struggle to get a work permit to play in England, which was apparently the case when he went for trials at Manchester United five years ago.

The Red Devils wanted to sign him at that time and have him play at Royal Antwerp, but Alain signed a professional contract at Auxerre instead.

Traore has been impressive this season, and is being tracked by Newcastle Chief Scout Graham Carr (who else?), and the lad has scored 6 goals in 12 league games this season for his French club AJ Auxerre, and is currently their top scorer.

Auxerre are currently in 12th place in the French League with 15 points from 13 games played.

There’s not much else in the story in the Daily Mail, but Graham Carr has been really successful in unearthing real talent in France over the last 18 months, and this could be another of Carr’s finds for the Tyneside club.

Talksport is also reporting today that Newcastle are actually in advanced talks for the player and want to bring him to Tyneside during the January transfer window.

Alain is under contract with the French club until 2014, and it’s not clear how much Newcastle will need to pay out for the  talented and athletic young player.

If anybody has seen this player play, please let us know in the comments – we have never seen the lad play so it’s hard to know how good he is.

Here’s some footage of Traore in action.

Comments welcome.

    Bonjour messieurs.

Traore got an excellent shot with the left foot. Could play anywhere in the middle i think, got both offensive and defensive qualities..

He’s now famous… but only since 3 months! So, i will wait a little more before saying he’s a top star!

Would have been cheap past summer, now, i don’t know.

He scored 5 goals after 4 games in Ligue 1 and only one since, so very difficult to say a price now. Negociation will be difficult, i don’t see Auxerre let him go, anyway this winter.

He will play the CAN in January.

Just Ridgewell and Pieters but apparently the news is we’ve cooled our interest in both. Apparently they’ve been moved down the list, so hopefully that means a quality mystery CB will be on his way in January!

    About Maiga:

So he fall in love with NUFC…

I don’t know how good he’s on the pitch, but what a bad liar!

One more time, be carefull with this guy, his agent is one of the worst in France.

He can’t be any worse than Willy Mcay, Joey Bartons illustrious agent haha!

I’m still not particularly sold on Maiga like, would much prefer Luuk De Jong.

    But In Carr We Trust!

Well, not sure about him… BUt why not? Anyway, he seem to be a fine lad.

    Risk to be expansive however.

Rumour pages tend to add the cost of wages over a 5-year period to enhance the ‘value’ of the contract, just to make headlines.
Even £20k per week is £1 million per year – that would amount to £5 million over 5 years.

toonincheek, the gossip column isn’t a rumours page, it’s just all the headlines from every paper listed in one column. If you don’t read it, you should, it’s my first port of call every morning.

Aren’t the newqspaper headlines just rumours?

They probably have some substance, in that a club may have made an enquiry about some player, but clubs will make dozens of enquiries dor every player they sign so I don’t see any story based on those as any more than a rumour.

I used to read the general rumours pages, but so many and so fanciful, plus the inevitable stirrers.

Plus, I had enough trouble trying to keep pace with the NUFC rumours to look through the general rumours linls.

Never seen him tbh but 6 goal from 12 in midfield doesn’t sound too shoddy!

Bring this lad in he looks top class so that means we got more competition in the centre of the park. then bring in Jordan Rhodes and Luuk de Jong up front and Liam Ridgewell for cover at Left/Centre Back. That we be top January Business:
    Alain Traore, CM
    Liam Ridgewell, LCB
    Jordan Rhodes, CF
    Luuk de Jong, CF
and bring in Papiss Demba Cisse in the summer.
Sell Ranger and Lovenkrands (if both Rhodes and de Jong/Maiga come). If Williamson is still injured by January keep Perch and sell him in the summer but if Willo gets fit sell Perch in January.
