News in the Daily Mail today that Newcastle are tracking AJ Auxerre midfielder Alain Traore.
Alain Traore – 22 year-old Auxerre midfielder
The 22 year-old started his career at Planete Champion in 2004 before joining Auxerre one year later, and there is also news in talksport today that Newcastle are indeed keenly interested in signing the player in January.
The 5’10” midfielder made his first team debut for Auxerre back in 2006, and he has played 33 times for the French club with 10 goals.
Alain has played 15 times for the Burkina Faso National side, but the news is that he may struggle to get a work permit to play in England, which was apparently the case when he went for trials at Manchester United five years ago.
The Red Devils wanted to sign him at that time and have him play at Royal Antwerp, but Alain signed a professional contract at Auxerre instead.
Traore has been impressive this season, and is being tracked by Newcastle Chief Scout Graham Carr (who else?), and the lad has scored 6 goals in 12 league games this season for his French club AJ Auxerre, and is currently their top scorer.
Auxerre are currently in 12th place in the French League with 15 points from 13 games played.
There’s not much else in the story in the Daily Mail, but Graham Carr has been really successful in unearthing real talent in France over the last 18 months, and this could be another of Carr’s finds for the Tyneside club.
Talksport is also reporting today that Newcastle are actually in advanced talks for the player and want to bring him to Tyneside during the January transfer window.
Alain is under contract with the French club until 2014, and it’s not clear how much Newcastle will need to pay out for the talented and athletic young player.
If anybody has seen this player play, please let us know in the comments – we have never seen the lad play so it’s hard to know how good he is.
Here’s some footage of Traore in action.
