Newcastle Interested In Joe Cole – Don’t Believe It

There’s a report out on the internet today that Newcastle United are interested in signing Joe Cole from Liverpool in the summer.

Joe Cole – in action for French Champions Lille

We don’t like to be the bearer of bad news,  but there is absolutely no way that Newcastle will want to bring Joe Cole to Tyneside – zero chance – zilch – it’s  just not going to happen.

Past are the days when Newcastle overpaid for players past their best, and such is the case with Cole, who turned 30 earlier this month, and he was a good player, but hasn’t played well for a season or two, and certainly he was not impressive at Liverpool last season.

Joe is currently playing for Lille, and apparently starting to play quite well again, and has 13 appearances for the French Champions with 3 goals this season but the French League is nowhere near the class of the Premier League of course.

We’re sure Liverpool would love for Newcastle to offer silly money to take Joe off their hands, but the Tyneside club will not do that, even though Liverpool overpaid for a certain Andy Carroll last January, and would no doubt love Newcastle to do the same for Joe Cole.

One or two readers sent me notes last week saying Newcastle could get Joe – but why do we need him?

Newcastle have some top players coming through the ranks at Newcastle,  in Joe’s position, players like  Haris Vuckic, Mehdi Abeid, Sammy Ameobi, Yven Moyo and others, so why would we need to buy a Joe Cole?

And we’ll not even mention his sky high wages.

Joe is on a four year deal when he signed for Liverpool as a free agent in the summer of last year, when Roy Hodgson was the manager, so his contract doesn’t run out until June, 2014, so he would command some kind of transfer fee.

Cole is currently on loan at the French Champions, and they could well make his loan deal a permanent one in the summer, and it wouldn’t surprise us if that’s what happens. After all, the bread and the wine are great over there. 😀

Lille are in 3rd place currently in the French Leeague on 25 points from 14 games, 5 points behind PSG and Montpellier.

But there’s just no way Newcastle will make  a move for Joe Cole.

What do you think?

No chance, no need and no desire to come to us.

Saw a Football Focus interview with him, think half the reason he flopped at Liverpool is because of how far he was from LDN and I can’t see him getting game time for us with our boys coming through so strongly?

@ Roshan – Bit of a surprise seeing as how OberToon and maybe Raylor are the only right sided players we have?

fair enough with Lua Lua! He had some chances in the first team, thought he looked ok myself but the coaches who see him train and played in the reserve games will know much more about him than us! If they don’t feel he’s good enough then thats fair enough for me! He’s a left winger, currently we have Jonas (just signed a new long term deal), Marveaux (on a long term deal) Shane Ferguson and Sammy Ameobi who are all left wingers….. would he ever have broken through? Doesn’t even start every game for brighton!
