Newcastle have not won in the league at Old Trafford for 39 years.
Gabriel Obertan – fit again for Old Trafford
So what does that tell you – it tells you that Newcastle are due a win there on Saturday – that’s obvious. 😀
French winger Gabriel Obertan will be hoping to get a start at his former club, if he can get his starting position back form the impressive young Sammy Ameobi, who played well at the Etihad Stadium.
The Frenchman has been regaining his confidence and form this season, since signing from the Red Devils in the summer, where he didn’t play much at all – 28 appearances in two seasons to be exact.
Gabriel is certainly looking forward to the game on Saturday, and today he talked to the local press:
“It’ll be a great feeling to be back at Old Trafford – hopefully we’ll win there.” “I spent two amazing years there, so it’ll be great to be on the pitch at Old Trafford again, to go back there and see friends I was with for two years.”
“Hopefully, we’ll get a good result there – it would be really, really good.” “It’s all about Newcastle getting a good result now.”
Obertan has missed the last two games with a toe infection, which seems on the surface to be a rather minor problem, but we guess not.
And it’s certainly been frustrating for the Frenchman, who joined Newcastle for around £3M in August:
“It’s been frustrating, but it happens.” “I just want to be fit again, and to be playing as soon as possible.” “I missed the City game, but hopefully I’ll be fit to face Manchester United.”
“I played 10 games, and the confidence is quite high at the moment.” “It won’t get me down. I’ve been through worse.” “It’s just been two or three weeks, really.
“It’s no big deal – I’ll be back.” “So far, we have played some great football.”
There’s no doubt that the French lads on Tyneside this season, have been a complete revelation, and not only are they very good technical players, but they were brought in on bargain deals, and have such a positive and professionalism attitude.
What else could you possible ask for – and where’s that new pâtisserie going to be in the Toon, or will they take to Greggs?
