39 Years Since Last Old Trafford Win Means We’re Due One

Newcastle have not won in the league at Old Trafford for 39 years.

Gabriel Obertan – fit again for Old Trafford

So what does that tell you – it tells you that Newcastle are due a win there on Saturday – that’s obvious. 😀

French winger Gabriel Obertan will be hoping to get a start at his former club, if he can get his starting position back form the impressive young Sammy Ameobi, who played well at the Etihad Stadium.

The Frenchman has been regaining his confidence and form this season, since signing from the Red Devils in the summer, where he didn’t play much at all – 28 appearances in two seasons to be exact.

Gabriel is certainly looking forward to the game on Saturday, and today he talked to the local press:

“It’ll be a great feeling to be back at Old Trafford – hopefully we’ll win there.”  “I spent two amazing years there, so it’ll be great to be on the pitch at Old Trafford again, to go back there and see friends I was with for two years.”

“Hopefully, we’ll get a good result there – it would be really, really good.”  “It’s all about Newcastle getting a good result now.”

Obertan has missed the last two games with a toe infection, which seems on the surface to be a rather minor  problem, but we guess not.

And it’s certainly been frustrating for the Frenchman, who joined Newcastle for around £3M in August:

“It’s been frustrating, but it happens.”  “I just want to be fit again, and to be playing as soon as possible.”  “I missed the City game, but hopefully I’ll be fit to face Manchester United.”

“I played 10 games, and the confidence is quite high at the moment.” “It won’t get me down. I’ve been through worse.”  “It’s just been two or three weeks, really.

“It’s no big deal – I’ll be back.”   “So far, we have played some great football.”

There’s no doubt that the French lads on Tyneside this season, have been a complete revelation, and not only are they very good technical players, but they were brought  in on bargain deals, and have such a positive and professionalism attitude.

What else could you possible ask for – and where’s that new pâtisserie going to be in the Toon, or will they take to Greggs?

Comments welcome.

Why buy one of the best young LB’s in the world only to place him on the bench haha, I guess he has to do the same as arfa and krul did, wait for his chance an take it with both hands

The more training sessions Santon has will mean he’s fitter, knows the system, can cope with the pace, speaks more English …

He’s lucky (and so are we) that he hasn’t been thrown in the deep end with no preparation for the English game.

I think the below team could pick up atleast 1 point at man Utd. We will have a bit more pace down both wings with Santon and Obertan and away from home on the counter pace is crucial, also in defending.

    ———————————— Krul ———————————
    Simpson ———– Saylor ———— Coloccini ——- Santon
    Obertan ———— Tiote ———– Cabaye ———- Gutierrez
    ——————————– Ben Arfa ——————————
    ———————————— Ba ———————————–

De Gea has one of the worst records for saving shots from outside the box, i say Yohan should strike plenty at him!!

    @IPToon

If Santon plays as LB today v Everton reserves then you might be correct.

If Santon starts at RB then I think Raylor will keep his place.

Hey fellas, my dad is a Watford scout and he was down in Sunderland last night for a reserve game and he is in Newcastle tonight for a reserve game. Anyway he just text me saying that there is a LOT of talk about Richard Branson wanting to buy us. Anyone heard anything similar?

Daley – i think most of the talk is that most people would like him to buy us. He has made no kind of statement regarding buying the club.

You should send him an email asking what his intentions are:

It wud be a bad idea to sell us now, MA has been working hard to get us self sufficient and then sum one wud cum in and spend 100million on players and we be… Well bankrupt again 😛

Santon is not one of the best young left backs in the world.. hes a right back who can play left back he plays right back for italy u21’s.. he’s a good young player but he isnt accustomed to the league yet, when he played against blackburn in the cup he fell over every time he got touched he needs to toughen up

For MA to sell I reckon £300m

Would I be happy with Branson? Depends, if its Virgin Group then no, if its Branson yes.
Branson likes a few pet projects that turn a loss but are ‘fun’ his spaceship for example.
Virgin dont, they buy, invest, strip down, sell. They are like a venture capitalist, but with an excellent branding team. With them it is all about the profit.
There could be a crossover with them just having bought Northern Rock.

Santon was brill when he came on vs the spuds at rb so its not a case off him being good enough for the league its a case of were he plays and is he good enough to push some1 out of there posision

There is absolutely no truth in the rumour that Branson will buy us, it’s also a fact that the head of Virgin Money has stated they will not sponsor either the stadium or our shirts
would imagine we’re going to be stuck with Sports Direct for the short term 🙁

def won’t be buying a shirt with that logo on it

stevep – how pathetic is that you wont buy a team shirt because it would have virgin money written on the front that pathetic theres more important things in the or peoples lives to worry about without adding something ridiculously pathetic lol not having a go a just think that its ridiculous..

also is not a fact as Virgin Moneys chief executive has said they might have talks and would be interested in seeing about a deal.. the only fact is she said she would want the stadium to be named St James Park as she knows what it means to us

Not many lads on the bus I was on Saturday were wearing a Toon top, probably even less when/if sports direct gets plastered on it ,then I suppose you’ll blame them for Tiote getting sold.

Also Santon didnt do anything when he came on against Spurs he didnt have to do anything.. everything he done he should of been able to do anyways, there was nothing to say he was class or anything he didnt have enough time.. he is a good player and will get even better and could become one of the best full backs in the league but he needs time he’s only young

It’s scarey prospect someone new owning us. It’s took a while for us to get wii the program wii Ashley. All we need is Branson to come in and appoint Keegan, Shearer, Ginola or some other name from our past and back to square one wii the egos!

A coupe of years back or even more recently , I would have been ecstatic if branson had bought us and to be fair probably still would be.

But now that Ashley’s vision is starting to bear fruit, I’m not so sure.

A lot of people are bigoted and ignorant about ashley, but it’s been a long time since we had people like Tiote, Cabate, ben Arfa, et al in our team and i like the way we are organically growing as a club.

We seem to be copying Lyon and Dortmund in going down the youth developement route and if you sell one you like carroll for 35m, you replace with even better that you’ve developed in the academy.

I really don’t see what the problem wud be with havin sports direct on the shirt n Nike as kit supplier, is it not the same as dave whelan done at Wigan they jjb sports on the shirt n the ground was called jjb stadium, now it’s named after him

Rotonda is right ppl r missing the point with the club is being run we’ve got some of the best players we’ve had in a long time n Ashly brought them, n it ain’t looking like cl footie anytime soon so this the most realistic way of running the club, n I think most who want Ashly out is as much to do with the fact they want some man city owner who jus splash endless amount of cash

Does anyone think it was all right for Sir John Hall to name the Leases end after himself? Is it acceptable because he paid for it?
