Danny Simpson will return to his former club Manchester United on Saturday, with his head held high.
Danny Simpson – after scoring his second goal at Nottingham Forest
Since he came on loan to Newcastle in August of 2009, when he club were at one of their lowest points for many many years, Simpson has done very well, and singed on permanently in January of 2010 for a fee of around £500K.
He has been a stalwart in the side, and has seen Newcastle progress each season he’s been here, and now the side are 4th top in the Premier League, behind Tottenham on goal difference, after the London side easily beat a poor looking Aston Villa side 2-0 at White Hart Lane last night.
Danny’s friends and half his family are all season ticket holders at the Red Devils, and this will be Danny’s first return to Old Trafford since becoming a Newcastle player, since he was injured for the opening game last season:
“This will be my first time back at Old Trafford – I’ve not played there for a long time. I’ve obviously played against Manchester United at our place, last year, which was a bit special but this is something different even from that,”
“It will be a really, really big moment in my career because not a lot of players leave Manchester United and go back as a Premier League players.” “It is even more special that I will be going back as part of a Newcastle United team that is very, very good.”
“We will not be scared of going there. It is a big moment, it will be nice for me to go back to Old Trafford but Newcastle and getting the three points will be my priority.”
“I know Is till have a lot of learning to do and I want to continue to do that as a Newcastle United player.”
That’s an interesting last line because Alan Pardew revealed over the weekend that Danny has refused to sign a new deal at Newcastle, which is said to be a five year deal, but he is holding out for more money.
We really hope that Danny signs the new deal, and Alan recommended he do just that, because he continues to improve on Tyneside, and he will get even better as he gets more games in England’s top division.
Danny continued:
“Half of my family are United, half of them are City. I have loads of friends there and they will be watching on.” “More of my family are Manchester United, to be fair.”
“ My little brother is a Manchester City fan and so is my dad.” “I am sure they will be cheering me on even more at Old Trafford!”
“I will not be knocking on Alex Ferguson’s door before or after, let’s put it that way!.” “Every player who plays under him still has the utmost respect for him.”
“If I catch his eye then I am sure he will say something.” “I am sure he will see me before or after.” “I am going there as a Newcastle player and that is my priority.”
Danny played only 8 times for the Manchester United first team, and since he arrived on Tyneside he has played 87 times with two goals, and he returns to Old Trafford a much better player than when he left in the summer of 2009.
He is also a player we will always be grateful to, for the way he helped Newcastle magnificently win the Championship at the first attempt under Chris Hughton, and he then helped to stabilize Newcastle in the Premier League last season.
Danny is now part of the best defense in the Premier League, and as we said before, he continues to improve, and that cannot be bad.
If only he would sign that new deal.
