Newcastle Have Good Chance Of Finishing In Top Seven

Newcastle have made a phenomenal start to the season.

Alan Pardew on Saturday at the Etihad Stadium

And while we couldn’t get anything out of the game at the Eitihad Stadium last Saturday, and it could be tough to get anything at Old Trafford on Saturday,  Newcastle can still have an amazingly successful season.

If you look at the Premier League table after 12 games Newcastle are joint 3rd, but in 4th place on goal difference with 25 points.

Newcastle are 3 points above Liverpool and Arsenal, but more important than that, is that we are 10 points above 8th placed Aston Villa and 9th placed QPR, who are both on 15 points.

Newcastle are not top four material, well not yet anyway, but possibly the only teams that look stronger than Newcastle this season are the two Manchester clubs, Chelsea,  Liverpool, Tottenham and Arsenal.

Of the remaining 14 PL sides Newcastle are easily the best, and it could be we are even stronger than one of those top six listed above – maybe.

One thing to concentrate on through the end of the season is to ensure that Newcastle take points from these other 13 weaker sides in the PL, and Newcastle have done a decent job of that so far this season.

Even if Newcastle average just one point from their remaining 26 games, we will end up with 51 points, and that would have been good for 8th place last season, 3 points behind 7th placed Everton.

And of course one point from each game is close to relegation form, so Newcastle should do better than that in our final 26 games.

So even if the lads get nothing out of the next two games, Newcastle can still make this a memorable season, and not only meet their goal of finishing in the top ten, but doing even better than that.

What do you think?

Comments welcome.

i think we have great chance to get into the top 6 or top 7 th this season but we dont have ENOUGH cover in center back so that makes me worry cause with one injury for one of our center back then it will be a huge loss

Deffo an assesment i agree with, seening as how the usual 7th, 8th and 9th placed teams are faring, top 7 is a realistic achievemnt.
It also helps seeing players such as Sammy and Guthrie coming on and we’re still playing good, strong football.

A good thought is, that the longer our lads stay injury free, the longer the younger lads gets to improve their game behind the scenes, making them ever more ready to step up.

several more wins and we can make pardew’s first target of 40 points before the new year and that really would be something.

I love so much this player! Ben Arfa. Should only there one player who could play with him like did Niang or Benzema in the past. He is so strong, full of skil. As NUFC fan I feel so lucky man to have HBA in my Team! NUFC can finish in the top 4, for sur!

What do the toon have to do to convince everyone they could finish in the top 4? will beating man u & chelsea in sucessive weeks do it? Somebody let me know. coz they’ve only lost 1 match to the best team in the league & 3 of the 4 draw’s they have had were justified in my eyes Arsenal, spurs and villa were all expected draws! Qpr was a freak slip up before our confidence had risen!
I’m not asking this in a deluded argumentative way. I just want to know at what point a realist goes ”we are capable of a top 4 finish!”?

LEROI, I think if we are 1st in the table at the end of 2011. People (media) would think that we could finish 4th.

Villash boash told Anelka he’s free to go in January, I really think we should get him in, even if he’ll only last us 3 maybe 4 seasons, he’s still pure class

Nah Leroi let’s be reasonable, we aren’t capable of a top four finish, not because our starting eleven isn’t good enough, because it is in my opinion, it’s just that compare our bench to the likes of chelsea, spurs, man u, spurs they can bring on the likes of torres, anelka, kalou, sandro, defoe, berbatov, hernandez, whereas we bring on the likes of lovenkrands and perch, solid squad players yes, but to be fair they aren’t the type of player that will set any teams alight. So whenever we build a strong squad with plenty of depth then we will be able to gatecrash the party, but not a second sooner. So let’s enjoy the ride!

Plus I really think he would come to us as it would offer him fairly frequent premier league football in his last proper playing years, and there’s the French guys there to settle him in and merge him with the team quickly, would love Anelka here

Keep reading people on here boasting we’re going to beat Man U. It’s Old trafford FFS, the toughest game of the season – no matter who lines up for either teams. We may do, but some class wouldn’t go amiss.

Whether we can or not; while we are in the top four- why not try and stay there? For as long as we’re in the top four- we have a chance of finishing there. If we don’t finish top four, it won’t be a disappointment by any means. But so long as we’re there, we have to believe we can stay there!

Yeah boater, let’s not forget that we have only went on an 11 game unbeaten streak, it was mighty impressive I will admit, but the season is 38 games long and that is why United are champions. They can win even when they aren’t playing well, so yes we may play well on Saturday, they might not even pressure us as much as we were pressured on Saturday but we may well do all that and come away with nothing so let’s not get too ahead of ourselves. Expect the worst but hope for the best, let’s get a good performance going against United and hope we get a result to match.

LEROI – the results alone so far suggest we will finish top 4.. but that doesn’t take into account – injuries that will surely come, ACN, and the luck we have had in edging narrow victories without dominating in some games. Arsenal will finish top 4 for cert, man U and city are gimmes … and can you honestly see BOTH Spurs and Chelsea finishing behind us?

Finish above Liverpool and the rest and that’ll do me.. channel 5 here we come.

Well look at the teams around us that are currently not in the top 4, Arsenal, Liverpool and now Chelsea. Arsenal have been playing extremely impressive stuff recently, RVP is on fire, hottest striker in the prem at the moment. Liverpool are a vastly talented team, who are looking more and more like a contender this year, although I think they will fall short. And Chelsea are quality, regardless of recent results. The three teams ahead of us are there to stay, top 7 is the best we can hope for and believe me if we achieve it, I would call that a brilliant season!

Top 7 we can do n hopefully a Europa league place I’d very happy with that, n were 10 PTs clear of 8th at the moment so were in a great position, if we could take 10 to 12 PTs from the Norwich, swansea, WBA n Bolton games after Chelsea we will b in a great position, even better if we cud get a couple draws or a win from the next 2

i think each team should be judged on this seasons merits. forget arsenal’s done this for last 10yr, Chelsea’s done that and Liverpool are big team coz they’ve won the champs league a couple a yr ago. It’s the here an now that matters! To the person who said the simplest of positive comments ”we’re 4th now lets stay in the top 4!” nice1 well said =D
I say based on current form we can atleast draw with man u & chelsea maybe even sneak a win at both? in my humble opinion we can beat every single other team we haven’t played yet!can any1 name me one team we can’t beat? Don’t count manure & chelski i know the hard line on them ha ha ha.

Cheers Askar, great little compilation of Ben Arfa in the City game, been looking for that… Neither SKY of the BBC did justice to all the things he did in that game… The most satisfying part was when De Jong stood up to him and he sped up towards him, very promising indeed.
On topic, i’d agree with Ed where we’ll finish:
    Man City 1st
    Man U 2nd
    Arsenal 3rd
    Chelsea 4th
    Spurs 5th
    Puddle 6th
    NUFC 7th

But if the lads continue in the same vein for the rest of the season, we could finish ahead of Spurs and Puddle, given they’ll lose the odd “Unexpected” game, which I will be expecting…

All promoted sides to stay up with victories over puddle lol.
    Relegated 3:
    Wigan
    Wolves
    Blackburn

I just like how we are battling away for a high finish against other teams who’s first eleven have cost their clubs around £140m – £200m (Chelsea, Man Utd, Man City, Liverpool) Arsenal and Tottenham would be less but still more than ours. I dont know the exact amounts but our first eleven which has got us where we are has probably cost around £35m !!!

    Krul 1, Simpson 1.5, Raylor, 1.5, Saylor 0, Coloccini 9, Obertan 3, Gutierrez 8, Cabaye 4.5, Tiote 4.5, Best 2, Ba 0.
    (dont no exact costs)

i think we will end with 60 points because if you look at it most of the games we played that we drawn were away and we will beat teams like QPR aston villa so we have a great chance for top seven and look at how many points were a head of sunderland o wait 14 things are looking up for newcastle nd we been linked with a french defender for cover and he looks good
