There’s some surprising news today and it’s not good for our chances of getting a result at Old Trafford tomorrow.
Cheick Tiote – will not play tomorrow
Cheick Tiote has been ruled out of the game, and news today that he has not trained this week, and he seems to be finding it difficult to recover from that knee injury.
We thought the Ivorian would be fit because after the Manchester City game we were told that Cheick had trained well on that Saturday back at the Newcastle training grounds in Benton.
And we thought if Tiote couldn’t make it, then Danny Guthrie would again deputize for Tiote, as he’s done in the last four games, but news today that Danny is not 100% fit either.
Alan Pardew had this to day to say today:
“I think it’s been the toughest selections I’ve had to make,” “There’ll be no Cheick, and that gives us a problem.”
“As good as Danny Guthrie’s been, he’s a different type of player. I have to make sure we have a fighting chance of winning this game.”
“Danny has not been 100 per cent.” “He went into the Man City game with a slight injury, and he’ll have to take that into the Man United game.”
“Whether he can last the game or not, we’ll have to wait and see.”
This is surprising news and not particularly good news either, so who will come into the middle of the field if both Tiote and Guthrie don’t make it?
Mehdi Abeid and Haris Vuckic are two promising 19 year-old central midfielders, but Mehdi is off playing for Algeria in the Olympic qualifying games, and it could be that Dan Gosling gets a start – but it will be very tough for the former Everton midfielder.
But nevertheless, it will also be a big chance if the 21 year-old England U21 International does get a start tomorrow afternoon.
What do you think?
