News today that Newcastle are not interested in either Montpelier’s Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa or Celtic’s Scott Brown.
Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa – Newcastle not interested
Brown has been linked with Newcastle since the summer, principally because his contract in Glasgow runs out next summer and he is still to sign a new contract at the club.
But it was always difficult to know if this was true or just a made up story, and in addition it’s also very hard these days to judge how good a player is playing up north, because the standard of football is so poor.
And only recently there was news that Newcastle may be interested in Montpelier captain and defender Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa, and it was thought that he could be a good buy at around £5M, as he can also play at right back.
And with Danny Simpson being told to either sign his new deal or Newcastle will ship him out, it could even have had some truth in it.
This is what Alan Pardew said when asked if Newcastle had interest in either player:
“I do not want to be disrespectful to those two players but conversations about those particular two? No,”
It seems that Newcastle will bring in two players in January, staring with Sochaux striker Mobido Maiga, and Alan Pardew also wants to bring in a center-back, but there’s no real good news as to whom that may be, unless it’s Dutch International Erik Pieters of PSV.
And news today that Sylvain Marveaux’s groin operation was a success, but it’s good news and bad news, as he will now be out at least four months, so he could return maybe in early April.
This is what Alan said about the 25 year-old Frenchman today:
“Marveaux had a successful op in America so we are pleased about that,”
If Sylvain is out four months that will mean in the last two seasons the French winger will have missed about 11 months with injury, after being out since October of last year at Rennes, with a knee injury and subsequent groin problems.

Comment #1Disappointing news on Mbiwa thought he looked a classy centre half that could play at right back ,I suppose we have more than enough cover at RB we need a CB that can play LB too more than a CB who can play RB and as far as Scott Brown is concerned he wouldn’t make it at Wigan let alone Newcastle

Comment #6Love that video of Ben Arfa! If he’s playing like that on his first start after a year injury, dread to think what he’s going to be playing like in 3 months time! Feel almost grateful we’re going to get to see him play week in week out!

Comment #7Isnt it amazing that Marvy didn’t have this injury when he signed for us, despite having had problems with exactly the same injury, for the previous two seasons?
I would suggest that somebody didn’t to a thorough enough examination on him!!
