No Sympathy For Simpson – Dan Gosling Could Start Tomorrow

With Danny Simpson being told to sign the new five year deal or be moved out of Newcastle, we hope he’s not looking to Newcastle fans for any sympathy.

Dan Gosling – a chance he could start tomorrow

Because with the early results of our poll in, here’s what it looks like:

Should Newcastle Let Simpson Go If He Doesn't Sign A New Deal?

If you have already voted the results will show up above, and if you haven’t now is your chance to vote – one vote per reader.

It seems from the comments that if  he doesn’t want to sign the new deal, then fine, since he’s not the greatest right-back in the world, and it could be that Davide Santon will creep into one of the starting full back positions before the end of the season in any case.

Danny seems to have everything going for him at the moment, he’s playing well in the Newcastle first team, he has just had his first baby, a beautiful daughter, and he says he’s settled at Newcastle.

So why upset the apple cart by being greedy?

The last we want to see from the Newcastle players is the greed that’s been displayed on Wall Street  these last several years.

And we learned this morning that Cheick Tiote will not play tomorrow, and that even young Danny Guthrie, who has deputized so well for the Ivorian over the last four games, is also suffering a little and is not 100% fit.

If Danny cannot make it then 21 year-old Dan Gosling will probably get the nod in central midfield, and this will be the chance he’s been waiting for all season, so if he gets in there, we have to hope that Dan can put in a really good shift for the side.

And of course there’s always Alan Smith who could come in against his former club, but Alan seems way out of the picture on Tyneside, and will probably not even make the bench tomorrow.

While I think the odds are not good that Newcastle can come away with much tomorrow afternoon, it could also be that I’m giving our lads some short shrift.

They could surprise me tomorrow – I hope they surprise me tomorrow – I pray they surprise me tomorrow. 😀

Howay The Lads!!

Greedy? Howay Ed there is no evidence to say he is being greedy at all we dont know what has been offered or what he wants

From what I have heard NUFC want to keep him as one of the lowest paid footballers at the club and he has performed very well while with us so how can the club justify that….as much evidence to say the club are offering him stupidly low wages as to say he is greedy

Agree with you WWJBD. I suspect Simpson is on 10-15 K per week now. If he has been offered more than 20K per week I would be surprised. The low wage policy of the club only works if players have no options. Simpson could very likely be picked up by a club like QPR and get a proper wage. Colo is going through the same nonsense with the club. They are asking him to take a huge pay cut to stay! Ridiculous attitude from Llambias and Ashley. Do they think Colo has no options as well?

I have a horrible feeling he’s going to start Perch tomorrow. He was saying guthrie is a different type of player to tiote.. i reckon he’s implying that gosling is too similar to guthrie and he needs a “defensive” midfielder. i’d rather stick harps in there

Latest from Pardew indicates Tiote won’t play tomorrow and Guthrie is doubtful. Bad for us. Likely Gosling will have to play in the midfield with Cabaye. We really needed Tiote’s attack destroying capabilities Toon Tang.

Colo is totally different to Nolan and barton.
he keeps himself very fit and doesn’t go shouting his mouth off, off the field.

    Roshan – Smith !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Smith !!! We’ll get hammered for sure, that’s like starting the game with ten players against twelve
Gosling, vuckic, abed, smith …. In fact I wouldn’t have smith as 4th choice

get your facts right. he’s been asked to go from 75 to 60K
for 5 years. Well if you can’t live on 60k a week or 3M a year, I would say the problem isn’t ashley’s.

As for simpson, if 15k a week isn’t a proper wage for a frankly average player, let him go.

Simpson has 2 fullbacks in Santon and Tavernier ready to take his place. Could be Simpson knows his limits and doesn’t fancy being a bench warmer for 5 years. Make the most of it lad, it’s next stop Villa Park or Loftus Road for you!

75k to 60k whats your source on these numbers?

As for Simpson he could easily get 25k somewhere else so why should he settle for 15 with us?

Oh and very random comment about Nolan and Barton

I’m really disappointed with some of you guys on here… How can you not be happy with the club’s new wage policy???? Do you want another 60k per week Xisco?? Smith???? Luque???

I would be annoyed if we played the wage game with a real star player but we are not there yet. If Simpson pushes his luck, he’s out. Easy replaced.

These are the cold facts, but I support Simpson 100% on the pitch as he is performing way above my expectations this season.

Use your memory lads.. Owen, Guivarch, Geremi, and so on and so on…

just because there is competition is not an excuse to give sum1 a low wage.

i think in 2days wage where we have overpaid overhyped players, i think simmo could get around 25 – 30 k P/w easily

I thimk Simpson is probably worried he’ll end up a squad player if he signs a long contract, he wants Englang recognition and he definately wouldn’t get on our bench….
I’d really like to see Vuckic get his chance tomorrow with Medhi away with Algeria, we should let Guthrie and Best recover, start Gosling and Ben Arfa and bring on Vuckic.. Would definately like to see Vuckic get more playing time but Gosling is ahead of him right now unfortunately.. Vuckic oozes class.

@14 I did briefly think that too, but I suspect Raylor might be out of his depths in that role against Manure.

Gosling deserves his chance (assuming Guthrie doesn’t last 90 mins)

He’d probably be on our bench with Santon playing on the right and a natural left back(Pieters?)…

Hahaha love the fact people think ryan taylor is a better defender then simpson hahaha.

What defensive attribute does he hav that is better then simpsons? Not free kicks cause cabaye is better then raylor 😉

Raylor is slower, backs off and waits for jonas to challenge, has no defensive instinct (when he has to make quick decisions it goes wrong)

The thing people like tofroget is raylor HAS TO hav jonas’s(or colo) help to be any good, weaters simpson is always alone(not including saylor) cause obertan doesnt come bak quick enough.
If we can get santon used to the premier league jonas will be freeed and can be so much more useful.
Then our left side will be stronger, but until then NO

Also people always say raylor has to play cause he is so loyal… Well shola is average yet not many like seeing him play (unless against the mackems) although he is loyal…

Wud u be happy with raylor as lb harper as gk and shola on instead of ba?

and raylor had a much worse game than simpson against QPR

You can understand where simpson is coming from though, lowest paid footballer in the starting XI when he is playing the best football of his career (You know Ashley isn’t exactly going to drastically increase his salary). If I was Simpson I’d wait till the summer when smith and xisco leave and then ask for a moderate pay-rise in the new 5 year contract as Ashley will be so happy that the dead-wood is gone providing 110k aweek in wages (and when we’re in the champions league :)) I’m sure he’ll happily give him a pay-rise.

There is a strict pay structure in place now, which will inevitably infuriate players who believe they deserve drastic improvements in their current pay deals. On the topic of Simmo, yes he has played well but defenders like him are ten a penny without being too harsh about it. There is no stand out attribute, he isn’t lightning fast, he hasn’t got a monstrous tackle, he isn’t a great passer so if he wants to spit the dummy then let him, but if he wants to show he deserves a shiny much improved new contract then my advice would be get your head down, make yourself impossible to shift from that RB role and SHOW over the course of the season that you deserve a new contract with much better pay.
