With Danny Simpson being told to sign the new five year deal or be moved out of Newcastle, we hope he’s not looking to Newcastle fans for any sympathy.
Dan Gosling – a chance he could start tomorrow
Because with the early results of our poll in, here’s what it looks like:
If you have already voted the results will show up above, and if you haven’t now is your chance to vote – one vote per reader.
It seems from the comments that if he doesn’t want to sign the new deal, then fine, since he’s not the greatest right-back in the world, and it could be that Davide Santon will creep into one of the starting full back positions before the end of the season in any case.
Danny seems to have everything going for him at the moment, he’s playing well in the Newcastle first team, he has just had his first baby, a beautiful daughter, and he says he’s settled at Newcastle.
So why upset the apple cart by being greedy?
The last we want to see from the Newcastle players is the greed that’s been displayed on Wall Street these last several years.
And we learned this morning that Cheick Tiote will not play tomorrow, and that even young Danny Guthrie, who has deputized so well for the Ivorian over the last four games, is also suffering a little and is not 100% fit.
If Danny cannot make it then 21 year-old Dan Gosling will probably get the nod in central midfield, and this will be the chance he’s been waiting for all season, so if he gets in there, we have to hope that Dan can put in a really good shift for the side.
And of course there’s always Alan Smith who could come in against his former club, but Alan seems way out of the picture on Tyneside, and will probably not even make the bench tomorrow.
While I think the odds are not good that Newcastle can come away with much tomorrow afternoon, it could also be that I’m giving our lads some short shrift.
They could surprise me tomorrow – I hope they surprise me tomorrow – I pray they surprise me tomorrow. 😀

Comment #41Seantoon I’d rather none of those four running at him, on the bench if i’m being honest. Indian magpie I haven’t criticised simmo in any way. I’d rather have naturally centre midfield minded players which is the problem with being a jack of all trades master of none it’s hard to nail yourself into a particular role.

Comment #43Sure cabeye can do that, Guthrie can do that too, but it’s nice to have more that one guy that can do that on the field. When it rebounds or clears you want someone to Gerrard it back in.
Hope Guthrie plays tomorrow.

Comment #47Ed, not a good article mate. You, me, the rest on here have absolutely NO idea what he has been offered in the way of a new deal.
Remember Lame Arse coming out and saying Jose “Has been offered an absolutely fabulous deal, more than offered to any other player”? Then Jose came out and said his new contract was the same money as he was on!!
I’m sure Simmo and his Agent have a fair idea what a new contract should be worth – Likely they are aiming for the upper end and TOON are aiming for the lower end (if that high).
There is absolutely NO evidence to back up your assertions. He is a good player for us, if not a world beater – he deserves a bit of respect as well.

Comment #48it is only a matter of time before Santon becomes a regular and to my mind why wait till Raylor has a real mare before changing it. Put Santon in the team and “rest” Raylor. Frankly he looked knackered last week. By the way so did the Man city team during the week and look at their squad, so it’s no disgrace; the fact is Santon is quality; he’s won Serie A and CL medal ffs. Cant understand why he’s not in the team!
Bit worried about Chiek’s injury now and Marveax situation looks bad as well.
Regarding Colo’s contract; he can now command top money elsewhere if he wantsa move; we gotta show our intentions and pay him top dollar and I mean at least what he gets at the moment. No-one in his position takes a drop in money as his stock has risen by about 50%. In my opinion he wont stay unless we get into Europe and then give him abig contract; he loves Newcastle but this will be his last playing contract! Give him the money Ashley! he’s worth it! HWTL

Comment #49@Graeme
I wouldn’t say it’s a bad article, but I do agree with you, your points don’t make it a bad article 🙂
@Indian post 19
That’s sad but not condemning, we do need a new purpose built left back who is ready to step up… S. Ferguson I believe is being groomed for a more attacking role.
@Moonraker
Don’t worry about Tiote, Pardew softens the blows with all injuries, usually says they should be back prematurely and then takes advantage of the the fact that no-one asks about it when the time comes that he claimed they’d be ready… Tiote isn’t far off fit.. This doesn’t bother me too much as it’s just to do with making the fans feel better about a bad situation that noone has control over.

Comment #52It’s impossible to say weather or not Simpson should be signing the deal he is being offered without knowing any of the details of the contract. Although i think it is fair for him to expect a sizeable pay rise now that he is a proven PL player,that is assuming he is on 10-15k a week.

Comment #53i think it is unfair to judge Simpson when no-one really has a clue what he is being offered. Ed calling him gready only stirs up trouble.
Lets be honest, he is the starting right back as has been for some time, he is part of one of the strongest defenses in the EPL, and considering how bad we have been at the back for a long time, he has to be given credit. His name has been mentioned as a possible England right back and he came through the Man Utd system.
With this in mind and based on what other players earn in this league I think he is well within his rights to believe he is worth at least 30-40k a week. We should be able to offer at least this to an established first team starter, otherwise we simply wont be able to compete at this level IMO
