It was a case of both managers having different view of the game today when a magnificent Newcastle rearguard action gave Newcastle a surprise point at Old Trafford today, after they had lost Gutierrez to a second yellow card after 80 minutes.
Manchester United players dispute penalty
Manchester went ahead with a really lucky goal early into the second half, but that will not be talked about as Newcastle shortly after were awarded a penalty when Ben Arfa was brought down by Rio Ferdinand.
The referee gave a corner at first but the linesman flagged for a penalty and after the two talked about the incident, the referee gave Newcastle a penalty which Demba Ba dispatched easily past De Gea.
It didn’t look like a penalty as Ferdinand got to the ball but brought the Frenchman down on his follow through, and obviously the referee was not aware of the unwritten rule that you don’t give penalties against Man United at Old Trafford.
He must have asleep in class when they went through that rule during he referee course.
Newcastle’s players and the Newcastle manager went over to the Newcastle fans after the game as they celebrated what was an excellent result for Newcastle, who now go on 26 points after 13 games and remain in 4th place in the league.
Pardew said this after the game:
“They were Geordie heroes for us.” “We have gone toe to toe with the best in the world at Old Trafford and came away with a result.”
“It was a great day for us.” “We played better than we did at Man City last week, I thought we stood off them, but we didn’t today.”
And on the performance of young Tim Krul in the Newcastle goal, who must have put in the best goalkeeping performance by a Newcastle goalkeeper for a long long time today, he had this to say:
“He has a very bright future ahead of him.” “He was magnificent today but everybody played their part.”
But Alex Ferguson thought his team should have won by three or four goals, and thought the result was a travesty:
“It was a travesty to not get the three points for that.” “Normally we would have scored three or four.”
“The goalkeeper Krul made some fantastic saves but there were also shots cleared off the line and one or two bad misses.”
“It was just an incredible result.” “I think everybody’s view was the same, including the ref, he thought that Rio got the ball.”
“He gave a corner kick and then let the linesman over-rule him.” “Credit to them for putting bodies on the line but we slaughtered them – we just couldn’t get the result.”
It wasn’;t all just good luck for the Newcastle defense as Tim Krul made a string of outstanding saves and players like Steven Taylor and Danny Simpson put in some great defensive efforts to keep the ball out of the net when they were defending with 10 men for the last 15 minutes of the game.
It’s not Newcastle’s fault that Manchester United couldn’t score with all the chances they had.
The Red Devils are having great trouble scoring goals in the league recently and today’s game will not help their confidence.
Newcastle’s defense was simply unbelievable in those last 20 minutes.
Now to smash Chelsea next Saturday at St. James’ Park in fornt of a sell-out crowd to go 4 points clear of the London side and keep that 4th place.
Howay The Lads!!

Comment #81Now we know why to include Ben Arfa in our team…he makes havoc in all honesty Fergy and Ferdi can eat the sh*t out of the pit of the septic tank. Ben Arfa was so far ahead of the plonker that the fool decided to just dive in a challenge…. Now Chelsea we should dominate lads…

Comment #82I think he corners in todays game were slightly different. I am not generally worried by how we defend them but they did seem to get there head on a lot today.
Then again they did have around 11 of them and you can expect the opposition to win about 50% of those. (am I just making up percentages to support what I am saying…………maybe)

Comment #84Just for the game against Chelsea I would play Gosling, hes never really been given the chance and against Chelsea is the time to let him play.
The one thing that really gets to me is if you look at the photo at the top is the amount of Utd players around the lines man, surely that isnt allowed, as soon as a decision has to be made they are like vultures around the officials.

Comment #85Hebburn mag surely tiote will be fit for next weekend’s game against chelsea, so we won’t need to play either guthrie or gosling but it is great we have those options.
I agree with Man U’s hassling of the officials, it isn’t accepted for any other team in England so why should Man U be allowed to harass officials when decisions are made against them.

Comment #87Ruddy – Yeah hopefully Tiote is fit and if he is then he should go straight into the team if not then Gosling should get a start. Would b nice to see Tiote put in a blinder against the team that supposidly want to buy him.

My midfield would be Tiote, Cabaye and Guthrie IF we played a 4-3-3. They’d boss most teams most of the time.
Need two really good attacking fullbacks to make that work properly though. Santon and Pieters maybe sometime in the future

Comment #89Proud as punch by our boys today, but I was sh***ing myself towards the end. Think Ben Arfa will be excellent once he gets used to the fast pace of the Premiership and used to passing/thinking quicker than the French game.

Comment #90Fergie it was a Travesty that Rooney didn’t get sent off for twice kicking Colo whe he was down. All the talk will be about the penalty! what they will forget is that their goal was a travesty of good fortune and the fact is they failed to score 2 goals which would have won the match.
I think the days of Man U domination are coming to an end as they do with all clubs (Liverpool) and the greatest travesty is it’s gonna be City that take over ha ha goodnight Fergie 🙂

One time the Man U players are going to pick on the wrong ref to intimidate and all get yellow carded. Would love to see that.

Comment #92angelswithdirtyfaces you’re right, if we were to play that we would need two fullbacks that we have complete faith in, that can cope with whatever is thrown at them.
Hebburn…yeah it would be great to see Cheick slot in and prove not only to the supposed “big teams” that are trying to buy him but to Guthrie and Gosling to say to them “this is the way you need to play to dislodge me from the team, this is why I am the best midfielder in the club” so I am expecting an epic performance from the animal that is Cheick Tiote when he comes back to full fitness

Comment #94Angel – I dont see why they shouldn’t, give the players 5 seconds to back away. Counting down (with their hand), as I doubt counting backwards is a strong point of many of the professional footballers these days. I they are still there, book em. It would soon stop……

Comment #96So, how much longer will Raylor keep his spot?
Least impressive player today imo.
Always too high up and a simple pass past him happens way too often.
He’s a winger at heart and always get drawn up that way for some reason.

That’s what they used to do in ice hockey – only the captain and assistant captains were allowed to approach the ref – otherwise two minutes in the bin

Comment #98Dannyo personally I think Pards adores the guy so I think the only thing that will make him lose his spot is an injury that forces him to change things. Now I would not wish an injury on any one of our players, and I am so proud of Raylor for the way he has done a job but I am itching to see what Santon can do

Comment #99Angelswithdirtyfaces – Must be honest mate ive not seen much of Giroud but he does look a very good player but a think he might be a Chamakh type player class over there but not so confident he could make it over here, Maiga has everything but the focus but he wants to play for Newcastle and he will be a success if he came a just cant see wher he could play with ben arfa and ba doing well, my preference would be Maiga or Luuk De Jong

We still want to keep Raylor as a utility player. We need good utility players in the squad who can provide the cover. He’s got us s few points with his game winning goals, but agree – his time as a FB is limited.

Comment #101Dannyo – Raylor has said himself that he is a RB. Personally, I can understand why people have concerns, but Pardew is doing great. If he thinks that Raylor is the better option at the moment then I for one trust that.
I see the mistakes and they could cost us e.g Man city. But I have a lot of faith in him, he hasn’t cost us that much this season and has won us games – Mackems, Scunny and Everton. This is forgotten far to easily in my view.

Comment #102Dannyo – personally mate Jonas was by far the worst player he was seriously terrible lost the ball everytime he had it and then stupidly got sent off summed his afternoon up, but as i said earlier a think jonas is tired because hes having to do two players jobs when Taylor is playing

Aye, it’s hard to fault him looking at the big picture, his goals has won us 2 matches this season alone.
But going from game to game otherwise, he’s always getting caught against good winger or simple passes.
SO many times today when Hernandez was already passed him when he recieved the ball.
Too often is he getting caught now imo.
He’s done everything that he possible could for us, but i just dont see him there mentally, as a fullback.

Comment #106I think SAF is right in that it wasnt a penalty, i think Ferdinand got the ball. BUT. I watched the game with a buddy who’s a ManUre fan, and he said Rooney shouldve been sent off, and also that we didnt get a penalty in the first half that we deserved. Their goal came from a mistake by the ref. On one hand it was a counter attack after a HUGE foul on Jonas that the ref didnt call, and the freekick they got was also a joke. I think the refs mistakes evened themselfes up, but he looked totally incompetent…

Oh ye, still wanna keep him, no doubt, but i’d rather if we started settling Santon in there tbh, atleast when it comes to being first choice.
@Offkey
Ye, he has improved, don’t think theres any doubt about that, and he probably needs even more time getting better.
But we’ve seen his mistakes against City, Rodagella skinned him when playing Wigan, we saw what SWP did against him playing QPR, and tonight Hernandez flew past him more often than not.
@GT89
Yeah, Jonas didn’t have a great game, and i think the two yellows underlined his frustration today. Obertan was the better winger, and tbh, it may had been better putting Sammy on for Jonas instead imo.

How Rooney did not recieve a card going about his Duracell bunny kicking on Collo i will never understand.
He even kicked after Collo had wacked the ball away.
And then HBA gets a card instead for justified, but silly acted out…

Comment #111Dannyo from the first whistle it was obvious that Utd had identified Raylor as a weakness and Hernandez was making his runs in from the right (our left) to expose Taylor but I felt he coped well, he still got caught out and was turned inside out a few times but we were never stuck as a result as anything he did) but yeah Santon was once described as the next Maldini so let’s see the next Maldini in action!!

I think we’d also need wide forwards that can pitch in with goals. Benny & Jonas aren’t really famed for their goal scoring records, and although he hasn’t had much of a chance I can’t ever see Obertan scoring too many either.
Offkey
It takes referees with balls to do that, and unfortunately they rarely have them.
I loved that Mike Dean was consistent in our Stoke game. Gave soft penalties, but wasn’t afraid to give them BOTH, despite the home crowd.

Comment #113Dannyo – I agree, we need a natural LB in there. But he has performed brilliantly out of position and helped us into 4th and cost us little thus far. I just think many on here are a bit harsh on the fella, he aint Bramble or Boumsong level.

Comment #114Ive been saying it for ages now but Id love for us to make a bid for Celtics Gary Hooper, he scored a hatrick today and he will score goals for us. He the type of player who would be able to get 15 plus goals a season for us and the type of player that would suit our team. Hes still only youg at 23 and he has a fantastic goal record that will only get better.. 43 gls in 80 Apps for Scunny and 29 gls in 41 Apps for Celtic. Looking at videos on Youtube and watching a lot of Celtic games his goals dont follow a trend and he is able to score from literally anything, penaltys, headers, volleys, long range, tap ins the lot. He is defonatly the type of striker that we really need and he would only cost about maximum £4 million, so its worth a shot. (:

Agree – either Ruiz and/or Gervinho would have done that for us, and those two are still settling into the Prem style and hardly prolific netfinders, so there are no easy answers to the front 3. Look where most of the Gooners goals come from…..
