Manchester United 1 Newcastle 1 – Fantastic Rearguard Action By Magpies

A simply magnificent rearguard action by Newcastle this afternoon and they came away with an unlikely point from Old Trafford,  after they had gone behind after 43 minutes to the luckiest of Manchester United goalsw.

And Gutierrez was sent off after 80 minutes for a second yellow card,  so Newcastle saw  out for the last 15 minutes or so,  including injury time to get a valuable point.

Newcastle started this game well and were trying to be a lot  tighter than last week, but in the first 10 minutes the Red Devils were all over Newcastle and the lads were a little lucky not to concede in those early minutes.

Manchester United got a really lucky goal early into the second half, as a Rooney free kick was blocked and a second shot by Rooney was kicked into Henrendez by Steven Taylor,  and the ball was in the net – you talk about a lucky goal.

But perhaps Steven Taylor should have done better,  but it was a terribly unlucky goal to give away so early in the second half.

Then Ben Arfa was brought down in the box and the lineman was signalling for  a penalty, and after consulting with the lineman the referee gave the penalty – and it really wasn’t one.

It looked like Rio Ferdinand didn’t even touch Ben Arfa – to be truthful.

Bur Demba Ba coolly took then penalty amid huge boos from the Manchester crowd, as he sent De Gea the wrong way, and Newcastle were amazingly level – a great penalty and Demba Ba’s 9th goal of the season.

Then it was simply all Manchester United and Tim Krul was just magnificent in the Newcastle goal, as they just couldn’t get the ball this lad, and when they did Danny Simpson on 87 minutes stopped the ball before it went over the line – fantastic play by the former Red Devil.

And then in injury time Hernandez got the ball into the net but it was clearly offside.

The news about his game will be all about how lucky the Magpies were and how unlucky the Red Devils were, but this is not the first time our lads have put up a fantastic rearguard performance this season.

And this was only the second time in their last 22 league games that Manchester United did not win at Old Trafford  – the other one being the 6-1 hammering by Manchester City earlier this season.

It was a great performance form our lads and a magnificent point.

We’ll get a full report of the game as it happened as soon as we can.

Three points against Chelski and that’s us competing with the best and about time we were taken seriously as a top 6 side.
Just need to score a few more goals, HWTL

Nout lucky about today. Okay maybe the pen but we have been defending like our lives depended on it all season. How many have we cleared off the line? Krul did his job and then some today. Mammoth performance but it is clear pardew is drilling this defence amazingly. Not a great attacking display but defensively we were superb!

Evra is the best LB Oba has come up against and today he had quite possibly his best game. His pace we miss so much when he went off we didn`t have much going forward. I have a good feeling Oba will be a great winger.

Santon will have to play next game due to us not playing 2 LB’s( Jonas) Raylor will be destroyed by Sturridge.

Saylor has to be picked for England F##k me Cahill is way overated and Terry is past it.

Excellent result by the pardew and the boys. Particularly Demba Ba who worked his socks off , Obertan who looked dangerous until he came off and ofcourse the magnificent Tim Krul. Jonas needs to get his act together and I still dont understand Pardew’s love for Lovenkrans. We certainly need Tiote back asap. Marveaus as well. Fantastic result once again. Well done to the team

ok the penalty was lucky but the truth is that Ferdinand now struggles against pace and HBA got past him in the box causing the tackle with his right foot across HBA.

I’m really excited about this team ang Guthrie is class now as well!

Ferguson is having a laugh about the first half. we matched them in every department. When Jonas gor sent off, both teams had 6 shots on target, they had 6 off and we had 3. hardly a battering? Then the last 15 was one way traffic as expected. we were great value for the point but pundits wont acknowledge that. Will they finally admit now that we have had a “real test” this season? a third of the season gone and we are in 4th, but top 7 still has to be the aim. That would be a magnificent achievement.

@geordieupontyne I dont think Jonas is suspended for the next game is he? anyone? I’m worried about Tiote. Its clear the medical team doesn’t have a strong handle on the situation with him.

Ferguson has lost the plot. We were better in the first half for sure
