Obertan For Sammy Ameobi The Only Change

Gabriel Obertan returns to the starting line-up for Newcastle United in place of young Sammy Ameobi for this afternoon’s game at Old Trafford.

The former Manchester United winger has missed the last two games with a toe infection, but is now back in the starting line-up and replaces the 19 year old younger brother of Shola.

That’s the only change from the side that lost last week at Manchester City, and thankfully the news about Fab Coloccini could possibly miss the game with a back injury,  has not turned out to be accurate.

Surprisingly,  Rob Elliott is again the substitute goalkeeper for Newcastle even though Steve Harper has returned to Newcastle from his month long loan spell at Brighton.

Leon Best is still not fit and Peter Lovenkrands makes the bench with the two Ameobi brothers, Davide Santon, James Perch and Dan Gosling.

Ben Arfa will continue to play up front as a withdrawn striker behind Demba Ba, as the French International plays himself  back to top form.

Danny Guthrie continues to deputise for the still injured Cheick Tiote, and he’ll have to have good game today,  but it is a strong Newcastle side that may just get something out of this game.

Wayne Rooney returns for the Red Devils after missing the mid-week game against Benfica, and it looks a strong side with skillful players Nani, Giggs, Young and Hernandez all starting.

Howay The Lads!!

Manchester United:  De Gea; Fabio, Vidic, Ferdinand, Evra; Nani, Giggs, Carrick, Young; Hernandez, Rooney
Substitutes: Lindegaard, Macheda, Gibson, Valencia, Evans, Smalling, Park

Newcastle United (4-4-1-1): Tim Krul; Danny Simpson, Steven Taylor, Fabricio Coloccini (c), Ryan Taylor; Gabriel Obertan, Yohan Cabaye, Danny Guthrie, Jonas Gutierrez; Hatem Ben Arfa; Demba Ba
Substitutes: Rob Elliot, Davide Santon, James Perch, Dan Gosling, Sammy Ameobi, Peter Lovenkrands, Shola Ameobi

The right decision. Use Sameobi as an impact sub. And first!

Look lads, if perch plays you all know the score. Its a yellow card coming his way, and we will ship 3 goals minimum- standard! wouldnt care but if we had tiote in cm, and colo does play, then we could do them this time round

hoping we can get something out of this game, me mums a manc so got a fiver on with her that we’re guna cause an upset! 😀

i think facing manchester city was our toughest test out of these three games… and we were unlucky not to get something from that. manure not firing on all cylinders so we have a chance, and i expect the lads to nothing less than take that chance!

    2-1 the toon!! COME OOOOOOOON!!!!!!!!

i disagree mate. Raylor had a bad game granted, but he’s done good for us this season on the whole. Santon isnt ready yet, he’s not suited to the premier league, he needs a few more cameo’s i believe so he can adjust in the right way. throwing him in against a team like man utd, aint guna do the lad any favours. is a big ask considering.

gogonzola, do us all a favour and pipe down ey. Raylor has done well for us, he made a mistake or two last weekend, granted, but Ben Arfa also gave a penalty away, you reckon we should leave him off aswell?

a lot has changed since then, not patronizing you here but have u read what happened to santon at inter? the lad’s confidence has bin well and truly knocked, from people putting the expectation of “the next maldidni” on his shoulders, and its affected him… if u havent read his history then u should mate, i feel for the kid actually.

he’s guna come good, but he needs to come into the side when he’s ready, which he aint yet in my opnion. but once he is, he’ll be in the starting eleven week in week out. he’s that good!

I heard something went wrong at Inter was that to do with Rafa Benetiz playing him RB and he was shocking?

Raylor should be given another chance IMO if he makes more mistakes thats when Santon should come in. Watching the reserves Santon is immense really skillful, quick and always shooting or creating.

Probably the strongest United team they have filled out in a good month!! Tough game today, they are due a good hiding of someone but if we keep them quiet for the first half hour we may snatch a point or three????

Putting him on the bench would be a bit harsh. But when you think he will have to play against Nani…

it’s generally bin the expectation put on him and he’s suffered a few good injuries to the knee, its knocked his confidence…. coming to us, i feel pardew wants to take the label off of him, and let him grown into the player he should be.

he’s too good to be playing for the reserves, that is obvious. but he’s getting playing time, and nobody’s putting any pressure on him…. i think throwing him in against man united would undo any good work pardew has already done to settle the lad…. few more cameo’s, ease him into the team… im happy for this if we get a player that, once upon a time…. handed ronaldo his ar5e! 🙂
