Dutch International Again Linked With Newcastle In January

12:23 am, Wednesday, November 30th, 2011 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 9 Comments

News in the Daily Mail today that Newcastle will again go after Dutch International left back Erik Pieters in January.

Erik Pieters – to arrive in January?

The news is the Newcastle are hoping to seal a £3M deal for the Dutchman in January, but we’re not sure if this is just a made-up story because in the summer PSV wanted at least £6M for the 6’1″ defender, who can play left back or center-back.

Erik broke his foot playing against his former club Utrecht last month, and that will keep him out of playing until late January, but Newcastle could still sign the player before that, and he has already been capped 14 times for Holland.

The 23-year-old is a good friend of Newcastle goalkeeper Tim Krul, and of course he will be well aware that Newcastle are doing very well in the English Premier League this season, and the news is that he remains very keen to sign for Newcastle.

It seems that Alan Pardew will be satisfied with a striker and a center-back in the January transfer window,  and the betting has to be on striker Mobido Maiga coming in from Sochaux, and the fee for the Mali International is said to have been agreed at around £6M.

Pieters would be an excellent signing, and whoever comes into the squad in January, will be given ample time to settle in, since Newcastle have a good side at the moment, and will not immediately disrupt the line-up because a couple of new players come in.

And it’s always hard for players that join in January to have an immediate effect in the team, as they generally need a full pre-season to settle in fully.

But more players are needed in January to strengthen the Newcastle squad,  and the same will be true in the summer.

But Newcastle in retrospect did very well in last summer’s transfer window, and if they can get some more good deals before August 31st next year, Newcastle could be a real force to be reckoned with next season in the Premier League.

We hope that’s the case. :D

Comments welcome.

so exited about the future of the club!!
players like lovencrans and smith will offloaded and replaced by better players (probably from france haha ) and an additional left back in pieters would be great.

Pieters and Maiga will be great signing i think but remember Maiga and Ba will be at the african cup. Maybe Ben Arfa and Amiobi or Best will cover while there away.

“Just watched Lion king, best film ever made?!”

Love it! Despite the nature of the blog we mustn’t forget the priorities. By the way I defy anyone to watch the first 20 minutes of “Up” without a secret blub.

    HWTL (and Disney ;-))
