Demba Ba An Excellent Replacement For Andy Carroll

Demba Ba, the former West Ham United striker has 9 goals in 14 appearances for Newcastle this season.

Demba Ba – in action on Saturday

After getting of to a slow start to his Newcastle, probably because of Ramadan,  the annual month of fasting in the Islam faith, Ba has come through in great style this season.

And the striker has 16 PL goals in 27 appearances when you look at what he did earlier this year at Upton Park.

Demba  Ba has had a great start to his Newcastle career, and Newcastle have made an unbelievable start to their season and are still in 4th place in the Premier League, and we are just into December.

This is what the Senegal striker said today:

“We are fourth in the league because we deserve to be there.” “We haven’t stolen anything from anybody, and we haven’t cheated anybody.”

“We have just worked hard, and got what we deserved.” “If we keep on playing like we have been playing all season, we’ll be a good team until the end.”

“Chelsea is a game we’re looking forward to – we know we can win this game.” “It was a great result at Man U before the Chelsea game – it gives us confidence.”

“We will work like we did against Manchester United. We’ll try to win the game.”

It’s interesting  that Be now has the same number of goals that Andy Carroll had at this stage of the season last year, when in retrospect it seems that Liverpool came in and bought Andy when he was at his very best at Newcastle.

Andy scored 25 goals in total last year for Newcastle, but so far has only 5 goals in 23 appearances for Liverpool this year. But of course Andy  was injured when he was signed in in January, and the 22 year-old has not done well at Liverpool.

Well not yet anyway, and Andy managed to miss a penalty in the Carling Cup at Stamford Bridge last Tuesday night too.

The player who has essentially replaced Andy at Newcastle continued:

“I don’t have a goal target this season.” “My target is only to stay healthy and have fun playing for this team. That’s it.”

“I’m really enjoying my football, and I’m looking forward to every game.”

Demba Ba looks like a deadly striker for Newcastle, and if he is in his best form on Saturday, Newcastle must have a more than decent chance of beating a Chelsea side who will not exactly be full of confidence at St. James’ Park on Saturday.

Newcastle are not yet finished in bringing in striking power to replace Andy Carroll and are expected to bring in Sochaux striker Mobido Maiga early next month.

what a striker and what a character he is.
I was so very happe when i read we got him, because i knew that he was a superb player, from his time in West Ham and his time in germany. I could not understand the ones on here saying that he was shite..

Demba Ba will get 25 goals this season, without injuries!

he will be our best striker since Alan Shearer.. If he get more than 15 goals… I’ll be happy… If he score 20 goals or more… I’ll be over da moon!!! A player with great header, cool / calm, superb instinct for goals & fast on turn!

Beat Chelsea on Saturday and Abramovich may come to Newcastle in January and write a huge check for Colo, Tiote, Cabaye, HBA & Ba. NUFC would easliy survive the year, and go into Summer hoping Carr can find lightning in a bottle twice, so that NUFC is even stronger in 2012/13. Risky strategy, but could really set up the team financially and not have to sell unless the offer is too good to refuse.

FFS Tiote out again due to a nagging injury? Oh yeah his agent maybe!

Do we have the worst medical team in the world? Williamson breaks his wrist months on he is still injured with an ankle injury WTF.

Guthrie has done well but he does’t allow Cabaye to get forward enough, Tiote does and takes everything out that comes near him.

PLEASE don`t be another AC saga!

When I read these comments my first thought is that some fans need to get their foot down to earth. I agree that Ba is a great player. I just think that the fans expect a bit to much from him at the moment. This is only his first season in Newcastle after all.I wouldn’t expect him to score 15 goal. Although I will be happy to be proved wrong 😉

Carroll scored 9 by Dec 5th 2010 which was the 1st Wba shambles. So if Ba scores on sataday he’ll be up on Judas’ tally for this point last season & he’ll not be sold in Jan (fa rules say so) so he could really destroy all of Big Andy’s targets before the end of this season booyaah!

Leroi you make a good point about FA rules – I had forgotten about them. Presumably the same rule would apply to all the players we signed in the summer Cabaye, Obertan etc.

ba has been ok but not consistant , there has been games where hes been missing we definately need more goal threat another striker like giroud would be most welcome, not many strikers can shoulder full responsibilty on their own , even shearer prefered a dual potent attack

He knows where the goal is,seldom he misses the target.
If Ben Arfa keeps getting better and feeds him then he should be reachin 15 goals without a problem ….

I don’t think hes the replacement for Andy Carroll long term but short term I think he is. He can easily get 20+ goals a season if he plays and stays fit, but there are always going to be better strikers out there who can be the ideal AC replacements. Don’t get me wrong Demba Ba has done a fantastc job for us and he will continue to do so, but IMO he isn’t ACs replacement.

Hopefully the club can bring in another top class striker who will get goals and in return link up with Ba and get 20+ goals a season as well. Since Alan Shearer left the club have struggled to get goals as we have not had a top class striker since, aslong as we have striker scoring goals with the defene we currently have we stand a chanmce of getting top 6.

So quick to hate a local lad, some here. Would ANY of u not do what he did? btw, he’ been unlucky with scoring opportunities, hitting the post, incredible saves etc.. Now, Ba, he’s come good and a nice lad on top of that! Best must not be forgotten either, now that HBA is ready to take the PL by storm. Bummer that Jonas isn’t playing I assume.

I am certainly not a defeatist but is anyone else getting de ja vue?

We were told Tiote may make it for the Citeh game and now he may not even play against Norwich!!!

Every press release from AP should finish with the Eastenders drum role.

‘Andy Carroll will not be sold… dum dum dum dum d d d dum’

‘We will deffinatley sign a new number 9.. dum dum dum dum d d d dum’

‘Tiote is a very important player for us… dum dum dum dum d d d dum’

I doubt he will play for us again. He will be injured until Janurary, then go to the ACON with Ivory Coast, representatives of Chelsea/Man Utd will fly out to avoid the British press, AP will say he is not for sale, and he will be gone 31st Janurary 2011.

I haved warmed to AP as a manager but I’m not sure I believe the man. I know it is MA and DL doing the dealings but it seems to me that a deal may have been done already and we are now protecting Tiote. If that is the case then AP is lying to us all.

Maybe I am just being a defeatist and my emotions are getting the better of me but I am seriously worried.

@DJM: Yeah but let’s be honest, the lad himself said he thought he’d be fit for Man U, Pardew then said that Cheik was training well, and now we’re seeing Gosling (who can play DM) getting cameos.

I honestly think that if we sell Tioté, we’ll be in trouble, especially with his ability to time travel.

Not to be the standard negger but this Tiote thing has me very worried about him still being a NUFC come Febuary

Somethings just not sitting right with this story for me. It was a minor injury now turned into a long term injury that seems to have no source. He trained prior to the City game and now is out for another 2 week? Hmmm

Carroll was/is a good striker, no doubts at all, but at £35mil its the best bit of business we’ve ever done.

Ba in for nowt but some slimey agents fees was nearly as good!

If Chelski come offering silly money for Tiote, then we have to think about it. I don’t want to see him go but money talks

been following him since he was at hoffenhiem, cracking player. was gutted when he signed for west ham.
i think a new striker is important however i do have one worry. if its a player with a large ego, like maiga, he may not be too happy about sitting on the bench if ben arfa and best are on top form.
although i do admit a very pacy striker in the mould of defoe/agbonlahor could really work well with ba.
    onwards and upwards
