Peter Lovenkrands Comes In For The Suspended Gutierrez

A bit of surprise in the Newcastle side today to face Chelsea, as Peter Lovenkrands has been drafted in to replace the suspended Jonas Gutierrez, and Sammy Ameobi is on the bench.

And that’s the only enforced change from the team that started against Manchester United last Saturday, and miraculously came away with a well earned point.

It had been expected that young Sammy Ameobi would be a straight replacement for Jonas, but Peter must have been impressive in training this week,  and the experienced Danish International striker gets the nod.

Danny Guthrie will again deputize for the still injured Cheick Tiote, and Danny will need to be at his best to try to win over the midfield for Newcastle against a top Chelsea side.

Leon Best is fit again and takes his place on the bench, and he’s likely to see some action in the second half today in front of a capacity crowd. Steve Harper is back on the bench for Newcastle after completing his one month loan spell at Brighton.

For Chelsea Daniel Sturridge and Dider Drogba start up front for the Pensioners, and captain John Terry and Frank Lampard also start.

The London side will be going all out for the win today, after losing three of their last five league games, and a win will put them back into 4th position in the table and above Newcastle.

Howay The Lads!!

Teams:

Newcastle United (4-4-1-1): Tim Krul; Danny Simpson, Steven Taylor, Fabricio Coloccini (c), Ryan Taylor; Gabriel Obertan, Yohan Cabaye, Danny Guthrie, Peter Lovenkrands; Hatem Ben Arfa; Demba Ba
Substitutes: Steve Harper, Davide Santon, James Perch, Dan Gosling, Sammy Ameobi, Leon Best, Shola Ameobi

Chelsea: (4-3-3): Petr Cech; Branislav Ivanovic, David Luiz, John Terry (c), Ashley Cole; Ramires, Oriol Romeu, Frank Lampard; Daniel Sturridge, Didier Drogba, Juan Mata
Substitutes: Ross Turnbull, Jose Bosingwa, Ryan Bertrand, Raul Meireles, Florent Malouda, Salomon Kalou, Fernando Torres

Lets start a bet – Who can guess how many touches on the ball Lovenkrands will have today? My guess is 4

    @Biffbaffboff

By touches i’m guessing those 4 times are when the ball hits him right lol.

I’ll add 2 air shots to that aswell!

I guess because Lovenkrands is more disciplined and tracks back better than Sammy.

    Good move by Pardew.

We can only assume Pardew’s worked all week at covering Jonas and he’s decided this is the best option, we shall just have to wait and see if he’s chosen the right player.

Loven will have to cover Raylor all day or Sturridge will tear him a new one.

Well. The only threat to worry about is Sturridge and Torres if they are on form. Or Mata. But at the front benny and ba might tear a new one. I’d put Ba on the wing mind, he played there at west ham, put loven up front. May aswell.

I support Padrew. Loven Man is very hard-working and skillful. He has pace as welll … only for that he is a bit light wweight

I dont think sammy is ready for premier leauge.. he can dribble but his def attention is very bad, also he has no final ball ……

i remember one time Ba gives a perfect ball to him , 1 on 1 to keeper … but his shoots ….

Could also be that Pardew is getting him ready for his placement in the shopping window in January.

Best time to play Chel$ki their form has not been brilliant as of late but they’ve been good on the road.

We have nothing to fear, go attack and defend when we have to.

Surely oba is better up there, for their high line and his pace?
