A bit of surprise in the Newcastle side today to face Chelsea, as Peter Lovenkrands has been drafted in to replace the suspended Jonas Gutierrez, and Sammy Ameobi is on the bench.
And that’s the only enforced change from the team that started against Manchester United last Saturday, and miraculously came away with a well earned point.
It had been expected that young Sammy Ameobi would be a straight replacement for Jonas, but Peter must have been impressive in training this week, and the experienced Danish International striker gets the nod.
Danny Guthrie will again deputize for the still injured Cheick Tiote, and Danny will need to be at his best to try to win over the midfield for Newcastle against a top Chelsea side.
Leon Best is fit again and takes his place on the bench, and he’s likely to see some action in the second half today in front of a capacity crowd. Steve Harper is back on the bench for Newcastle after completing his one month loan spell at Brighton.
For Chelsea Daniel Sturridge and Dider Drogba start up front for the Pensioners, and captain John Terry and Frank Lampard also start.
The London side will be going all out for the win today, after losing three of their last five league games, and a win will put them back into 4th position in the table and above Newcastle.
Howay The Lads!!

Comment #6I guess because Lovenkrands is more disciplined and tracks back better than Sammy.
Good move by Pardew.

Comment #7We can only assume Pardew’s worked all week at covering Jonas and he’s decided this is the best option, we shall just have to wait and see if he’s chosen the right player.

Comment #8Loven will have to cover Raylor all day or Sturridge will tear him a new one.

Comment #9Well. The only threat to worry about is Sturridge and Torres if they are on form. Or Mata. But at the front benny and ba might tear a new one. I’d put Ba on the wing mind, he played there at west ham, put loven up front. May aswell.
