Newcastle Get Blackburn At Home In FA Cup 3rd Round

Newcastle United have been drawn at home to Blackburn Rovers in the third round of the FA Cup.

That’s the news today and it’s a winnable game for the Magpies, after they rather easily beat Blackburn 3-1 in the league at home but lost 4-3 in extra time at Ewood Park in the Carling Cup, so we have a score to settle there.

In the 3-1 win, when we had some fit central defenders, Demba Ba hit a great hat-trick.

Ans as we recall Steve Kean after that game explained how each of Newcastle three goals should have been stopped or disallowed, and they missed a great chance – they should have won 2-0. 😀

The tie will be played on the weekend of Saturday, 7th January at St. James Park.

And Manchester City have drawn Manchester United at the Etihad Stadium – unbelievable.

Here is the full draw:

Middlesbrough v Shrewsbury
Nottingham Forest v Leicester City
Manchester City v Manchester United
Dagenham & Redbridge/Walsall v Millwall
Crawley v Bristol City
Doncaster v Sutton Utd/Notts County
Bristol Rovers v Aston Villa
Tottenham v Cheltenham Town
Sheffield Wednesday v West Ham
Milton Keynes Dons v QPR
Hull City v Ipswich Town
Coventry v Southampton
Brighton v Wrexham
Fulham v Charlton Athletic
Birmingham v Wolves
Norwich v Burnley
Arsenal v Leeds United
Derby v Crystal Palace
Fleetwood/Yeovil v Blackpool
Swindon v Wigan
Barnsley v Swansea
Chelmsford/Macclesfield v Bolton
Newcastle v Blackburn
Everton v Tamworth
Sheffield United v Salisbury City/Grimsby
Liverpool v Southend/Oldham
Gillingham v Stoke
Chelsea v Portsmouth
Watford v Bradford
Peterborough v Sunderland
West Brom v Cardiff
Reading v Stevenage

anyone know whats happened with Vukic? I’m bit disappointed ,thought we’d see more of him this season and more often than not doesn’t seem to even get on the bench. n where’s shane ferguson aswell??? 2 very promising players who don’t seem to be gettin a sniff at the mo. as for santon….giv him games!!! Its like Xisco, i swear if he’d been given a proper chance like Guttierez and the like, he’d of come good. we seem to do this with foreign players and its well known they need many games before they’v adapted, just look at colo, guttierez and even the scouse enrique!

@roblee7: Vuckic said in the Carling Cup that the younger lads love the cup runs because it’s their chance, so I think that’s what they’ve been told. Impress in the cups and show why you deserve a chance.

    Hi Ed,

Just seen your health update on the sidebar.

Hope the treatment has worked for you. Stay strong and keep fighting.

The world would be a duller place without people like you.

Gutted about S.Taylor a think he’s our best natural defender..Colo is amazing but hes more of a ball playing defender with silky skills whereas Taylor is a no nonsense life on the line defender so im proper gutted =[ Also Blackburn in the cup again atleast wer at home this time

Gutted about Saylor. Pre season everyone who had a clue wasn’t bothered about a centre forward but knew a left back and cover for CB was crucial. Looks like we are a month away from being able to do anything about it. If Colo can play then we can still win our games until the window opens. But the club need to scratch any plans they had and buy a top CB. Gary Cahill will move in January, so lets bid the £8 million that will get him, or more if necessary.

We have good players and can still have a cracking season but pleeeeeaaassee get a top CB in January.

James Perch and Danny Simpson are small for centre backs. Simpson especially! They shouldnt be played together there, my thoughts are Santon and Perch at centre back and keep the fullbacks as they are! Kadar as substistute if needed.

With the injuries mounting I’m not really concerned about the FA cup anymore. We will struggle to field a decent team in the Prem let alone trying for a cup run. The ref has admitted he made a mistake in not sending Luiz off but that’s no help to us now. The run of games in December will be very difficult. A challenge for Pardew and Carver. Not sure how they will play it but the back 4 will now surely have to include Santon? If not why was he brought here? Raylor will have to stay in as well as Perch (shudder) and who knows who else. If we do sell in January then the owner is truly mad. He will be squandering a huge chance to build a very good side indeed. Supporting the team counts more than ever now but the owner has to show he is involved in a good way in January and next summer.

The problem with trying to bring in a proven centre back for us is that our beloved owner won’t pay competitive wages even if he would pay the large transfer fee. That problem isn’t going to go away so look for us to bring in someone much cheaper from Europe. The injuries leave us with a huge hole in the lineup and no way to fill it until January and then we still have that cheap owner. If Colo can recover quickly (maybe a month out with a thigh strain and back spasms?) we might be able to get a few more points before January but if not it will be a real struggle. Surely Kadar needs to be at least on the bench for the coming games in case Perch is a disaster.

i think its the best time to play SANTON if he IS not played against these smaller teams then i dont think he will play ever for us i think its perfect to bring him in cause there wont be much pressure

If you look at it Norwich will play Holt and Morison we need tall strong defenders.
Whether or not they have experience I would play them.I would have 3 in midfield making sure tiote helps them out and let Cabaye and Guthrie play.
    Anyone agree???

All of this problem with centre backs is on the owner and his owl faced sidekick. We all knew we needed some sort of decent centre back cover in the summer. But apparently owl face knew better.

I like it NUFC STEVE but Kadar doesn’t even have a squad number and Pardew has no faith in him. Apparently his attitude has been bad (he has other interests according to quotes). I suspect we will go with Perch and Santon in the middle for at least one game. I like the rest of your plan as well.

Nowt wrong with being drawn against the second worst team in the premier league. Easily beatable, should be a formality.
Lets just hope we dont fcuk it up and then hopefully get a decent draw in the 4th round.

With our only two centre halves out, we’re going to start dropping likes a stine now i think. Terrible, because we deserve more, but thats what you get with a short sighted owner who had 35 mill to spend ….and didnt.
