Newcastle Interested In Crystal Palace Whiz Kid

News in the People today that Newcastle are set to sign 19 year-old Crystal Palace striker/winger Wilfried Zaha.

Wilfried Zaha – Crystal Palace winger/striker

The young England U19 player, who was born in the Ivory Coast,  is also interesting Stoke City and the transfer fee is said to be £3M.

Crystal Palace manager Dougie Freedman turned down an approach in the summer from Stoke City for the player,  and the offer at that time was said to be £1.5M.

The news in the People is that Newcastle have been so impressed with this youngster,  that they plan to go in with a £3M offer in January, and that could tempt Palace to sell.

But Zaha will be key to Crystal Palace’s semi-final game against Cardiff City, and that will happen in January.

We have no idea if this story has any truth to it, but Wilfried is just the type of player Newcastle are looking for, as they bring top young players to the club, and develop them hopefully into top players at Newcastle.

Wilfried joined Palace back in 2007, and made his debut at home to Cardiff City in March of last year when he was just 17.

The youngster has so far played 68 times with 6 goals for Palace,  and this season has 24 appearances for the London club with 5 goals.

Last season he was a regular at just 18 years old and made 43 appearances with a single goal, and Newcastle were linked with this player back in October, so the story  may even be true.

Wilfried was born in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire in 1992 and started his career at his home town club ASEC Mimosas, and he has  already represented the England U19 side twice, making his debut against Germany last February.

He looks a very decent youngster from what we can tell.

Based on this vid alone I would have him over Gabriel ‘I can’t run forwards’ Obertan.

Indian… Are you saying that you dont have faith in Pardew? The man knows what he is doing, you should have learnt that much, so wait and see. There is a perfectly good reason that Santon havnt started yet, and my guess is that he simply havnt settled in yet and took his time learning the language. Communication is very important in defense, and defense is Pardews number one priority as we all know.

I hope its true about Zaha because he looks like a real prospect judging by his performance against the poor Manchester club.
I also expect a loan or two as well as the additions of Maigi and probably Pieters in January.
We have definately hit the wall due to our small but good squad and need additions quickly or we will slip out of contention for a place in the secondary European cup next year.
The club also needs to keep up its forward momentum/development or we are in danger of losing some of our top players.
At the moment I am very happy with the way Ashley, Pardew are Carr are digging up gems in France, long may it continue.

Not sure if it would be a good idea to bring him in. If he was born in the Ivory Coast he could elect to play for that country at some point in the future, even though he has already played for the England under 19’s (similar to Shola, who has played for the under 21’s but is also eligible to play for Nigeria). So he might be yet another player that we could lose to the ACN every other year, and we’ve got enough of those already.
