Are Newcastle Interested In Kolo Toure?

Newcastle certainly need to bring in a couple of defenders in the January transfer window, now that Steven Taylor is out for the season.

Kolo Toure – coming to Newcastle?

But the reports yesterday that Newcastle will turn to Kolo Toure of Manchester City are surely way off the mark.

Don’t get me wrong,  the former Arsenal Ivorian is a terrific center-back,  but every buy Newcastle make these days seems to be with an eye on the future.

When they strayed from that policy  18 months ago and signed the then 35 year-old Sol Campbell,  the deal turned out to be a disaster with Sol just no longer good enough for the Premier League.

Kolo is said to be unhappy at City, and has even been criticizing the club, and would be available for £5M, but can you see Mike Ashley turning over £5M for a 30 year-old?

Of course Alan Pardew would also like to sign a center-back who is a proven palyer in the Premier League, which is why we may see Liam Ridgewell of Birmingham come through the door in January.

And maybe a loan deal for Kolo would be a good deal, and certainly he’s still a very good player, but his wages must also be sky high.

So we just don’t see Kolo Toure arriving at Newcastle in January.

We’d be happy to get any two of Erik Pieters of PSV, Liam Ridgewell or Montpellier defender Yanga-Mbiwa through the door in early January.

And since we have heard nothing yet of  the extent of Coloccini’s injury,  we wonder if he has any chance of making the game at Norwich on Saturday?

What do you think?

Surely with Man City looking to ship out players Nedem Onuha is the obvious choice for us.
Can play centre back or either full back and solid with good premier league experience. Needs a move as well down the pecking order with City.
No brainer for me like- Yeah he played for Sunderland but so what.

Kolo’s trying to get a move to PSG! Saw him say a few days ago that he couldn’t turn down a chance to go there, think his angling for a move! They can match his wages also!

I think we will buy a centre half and loan one. Wouldn’t be surprised if we haven’t looked at Arsenals Miguel, liverpools sebastien Coates, Man Utds Ezequial Fryers on loan! All 3 are on the verge of first team squad nad need game time! Fully expect Erik Pieters to sign aswell, he’ll be fit by january!

I thought Santon could play along the back line Cockey. Im slightly concerned that we have bought something that does not do what it says on the tin.

We wont get Toure, as good as his signing would be.

We shouldnt get Ridgewell, very average defender.

Cant say i know anything about Pieters and Mbiwa so cant really comment. Bassong wouldnt be too popular with all fans but he would do a better job than the likes of Ridgewell.

I don’t see this transfer. Too expensive and too old.

I think the club will bring in at least one defender.

Santon has great technical ability and is a good defender in Italy. However, he needs to get used to English football, much like Coloccini and Enrique did, and is probably why he is not being chucked in.

Not a chance, the guy is 30 & would cost big money, enevr mind stupid wages… lets the Spurts have him too, he’s more in their remit of taking on older players than ours!!!

Back 4 for norwich: Simpson, Perch, Kadar, Raylor

mattnufc I understand not chucking him in and I agree with that 100% but im surprised that we bought a player that was not suited to going straight into the premier league especially when he was our biggest signing of the summer.
This does not seem to sit with our transfer policy.

Kolo – no chance – to old, to expensive
Onuoha – no chance – to expensive on loan and to expensive for us to buy

Man City stood by Kolo Toure during his drugs ban – he is not showing them much loyalty crying because he can’t get a game now because they had to find other players. Do we want that type of player here? Although his wages would probably be a sticking point I think Alex of Chelski would be good with a bonus of his free kicks.

think any centre half we buy will be young as they will probs come in cheap to be behind williamson and collo in the pecking order! Can see Pieters coming in at left back tho!

Cant see this guy coming on loan, his wages must be astronomical, he will be away in Jan. From the rumours, it seems that he is on his way to PSG anyway. Good defender but I cant see us splashing out that much money on him.
In a way, I wouldnt like to see him here. I dont think he fits in with the profile of players we have been after. Such a marque signing would be a step back to the “good” old days.
A lot of people are knocking Ridgewell down. I think he would be a decent signing. He doesnt have the class of some defenders but he does what a defender should, defend. No nonsense old school centreback.
As for some suggesting Tiote should play CB, they need their head examining. Yes, he is strong in the tackle and he is determined, but with the amount of fouls he gives away, any one of those could be a penalty. He holds onto the ball a bit too uch for my liking and I worry he would do the same at CB.
Hopefully Pieters, Ridgewell and the Montpellier duo. I would be very happy, well I can at least dream anyway.

Liam Ridgewell is less than useless. He is a cb by trade and could only get a game left back for birmingham when they got relegated. Not good enough to keep Johnson or Dann is not good enough for us.

I would love Alex but his wage demand would be a joke, shame as he a canny player. Kolo should never have jumped ship from Arsenal, he was adored there and now because he jumped for money he is a bit part. Serves him right.

I would be very happy with Pieters and Mbiwa. Certainly not Ridgewell. And for krul, Colo and Tiote to all stay.

Kolo is just somebody’s thoughts on another crappy website. It’s the editor’s wish list, not reality.

hmm humour lost in translation i think.Graham Carr to date has been excellent and I trust his judgment, Pardew himself has tightened and improved our defence a great deal so should know the sort of player he needs.
At this moment in time the urgent need is for a defender to compliment Colo so a physical good ariel player in the Taylor mould.
The bigger issues is cover for Colo either through injury or if he is sold. I do think its easier to find a thr former than a ball playing defender of the skippers class.

Roshan……Tiote at centre-back? What planet are you on? We’d be better giving the shirt to Bobby Moncur. Norwich will be rubbing their hands with glee. I can see Grant Holt being on from the start to use his strength and aerial ability.

this would be Kolos last contract so hes off to PSG…longer contract, more money, good team, etc..

as for raylor..i think we all agree he needs to be replaced…hes a good squad player, but simply not good enough to be a first team defender or a midfielder..

if we can get pieters & my dream would be to sign otamendi, but porto would probably want at least 20 mio for him so..i dont really care who we sign, as long as hes quality…perhaps kjaer?

anyway…ppl here who say how much time colo & enrique needed to show his potential..that they needed time to adjust to EPL..sorry but wtf? EVERY player on this planet would struggle if they have a new manager every other month in a team full of egos, where smith & butt were captains..ffs..

Do some of you lads watch 10/15 games of football a week to have such a good knowledge of young worldwide left backs or do you simply enter stats into ya football manager game then post the results.
