You just never know in football, and the events of last Saturday could well have given 21 year-old Tamas Kadar a big chance at Newcastle.
Tamas Kadar – will he get his chance on Saturday?
Tamas was signed back in January of 2008, and he played 16 times in the promotion season and always looked a good player at either center-back or left-back.
And now with the injuries to Steven Taylor and Fab Coloccini, and with Mike Williamson still out injured, Tamas is the next in line as a recognized center-back in the squad.
But of course he has gone down the pecking order over the last twelve months or so, due to injuries and lack of form.
Burt only a couple of months ago he started to play both in the Reserves and the Hungarian sides at U21 level and picked up his second full cap too, so he has played quite a few games over that time.
Indeed he played for the Hungarian U21 side against Italy, when Davide Santon was in the Italian side for a European qualifying game.
But it’s still not clear who will start alongside James Perch at Norwich on Saturday, but at least Tamas is being brought in from the cold and given a chance to show what he can do in training this week.
That has to be good, and Davide Santon is also able to play at center-back and Danny Simpson has filled in at center-back before during the promotion season.
And one surprise this summer was that not only did Tamas not make the American tour, but he was not officially listed in the first team squad, so we have to assume Kadar did not impress manager Alan Pardew too much.
Tamas will get his number 40 back and he spoke today to the local press:
“Hopefully, I can get my chance to play for Newcastle again. I want to step up and play for the first team.” “To get to the first team, it’ll be hard work – I know that – but I know myself.”
“I feel I can do the job for the team. All I can do is train hard.” “If I train with the first team, I have to show the manager what I can do. That is my aim.”
Kadar made his Newcastle debut in the Carling Cup against Huddersfield Town on 26th August, 2009 in a thrilling 4-3 win at St. James’ Park against Lee Clarks’ side, and he has 18 total appearances for Newcastle, but only two of them have come since the promotion season which ended in May of last year.
Kadar’s contract runs out next summer, and it had been thought he would be sent out on loan next month, and depending on how he did would determine whether he got an extension to his deal on Tyneside.
But it was really not expected that he would be staying at Newcastle, but at least now the youngster, who we always thought looked a tremendous prospect at Newcastle could get his chance at Norwich.
Whether he plays or not will depend on how he looks in training this week, but surely Danny Simpson will not be drafted into the middle?
We need a tall center-back who is a good header of the ball and Tamas fits the bill there, although Davide Santon could also be drafted into the center of the defense.
The difficulty with Davide is he has no experience of the Premier League, and no doubt Alan Pardew was trying to ease him into the side.
But it could be that Pardew will now have to take a chance on either Santon or Kadar at the back on Saturday alongside James Perch.
Whoever plays there at Norwich, we will be hoping they will do well with James Perch, and it will be a difficult task for both James Perch and whoever gets the node, but it’s also a huge chance for those two players.
A result on Saturday at Carrow Road would now look a good result for the depleted Newcastle side.
What do you think?
Comment s welcome.

Comment #1I thought (but then I’m thick) that at the start of the season you had to name your 25 man squad and that was it?

Comment #4Raylor is a chocolate teapot at LB.
If AP continues to play him there, then you have to question his judgment.
We’ve got a 5m Italian international LB waiting in the wings, who’s had eminent praise, from managers and coaches better than AP. He kept out Ronaldo 1vs 1, when he was just 17. If Raylor came up against Ronaldo, it would be a massacre.

Comment #5I’m happy for the lad, wether he has a good performance or not, atleast he’ll have had his chance against PL opposition from the start. IF he starts that is.
It’ll answer our questions and that will be that.

Comment #7Both the cb are a great loss to us but what we will miss the most is a leader somone to organise. heres a thought why not bring in smithy from the cold he may not be the best but when he played as a DM he did the job very well and proteced and organised the back four.
I think smithy would be better than either perch or kadar and smithy will always give 150 %

Comment #9To be honest, Ed., it sounds as though you are doing your best to talk up a desperate situation and a young player who has rather missed his chance….but here’s hoping I’m dead wrong!

Comment #10Thing is, if kadar plays then santon stays on the bench yet again. This guy needs to be out in the position we brought him here for.
I appreciate what raylor has done for us, but with a proper left back in place jonas can get on with his job and do the things he was doing at the start of the season against wolves and spurs. he was our best player during those time IMO.

Comment #11Kader didn’t impress when he went on loan either! Played left back for reserves and U21’s mostly, if thts the case may aswell play santon, hes’ quicker, reads tje game better and better on the ball! Kader is league 1 or low championship quality really!

Comment #12Kadar is a natural CB. He is hungry for first team action and since his contract due in Summer – then lets play him.
Also played Santon at LB. Maybe Raylor play RB or CB
The “versatile” Perch remain at the Bench

Comment #14Give the lad a game. He cannot do any worse than Perch. Surely he will be Hungary for this chance, and we ain’t got much more options. Also, I think a game like Norwich would be ideal for Santon to make his first PL start, so he can adjust to the style against a team that ain’t going to be a massive threat on the wing.

Comment #16have read this blog for next to a year now and eventually i have decided to voice my opinion 🙂
personally i really fear that we will have problems vs norwich. morison is an areial threat and with perch, as seen with the drogba goal, he isnt physically strong enough and hasnt the heading ability to compete, espically if they start holt to attack our CB weakness at the minute. Therfore it is vital that we play two CB’s that have decent areial ability, and it leaves us with very few options. I would opt for Kadar and Santon at CB. with simmo and raylor at FB on this occassion.
santon reaaly needs to get some games, what is pardew saving him for? raylors positional play is awful and the three last games highlighted this! aslo has everyone forgopt about shane ferguson? he is a massive talent, broke into first team last year but has been almost non existant so far this term.

Comment #17whether we like it or not we all know perch is starting. the question of whether ap has the balls to include kadar is another question (i think undoubtedly he should). the next question is whether or not raylor will be dropped for santon, and deservedly so. i rewatched the chelsea match; simmo, who i often am critical of, more than warrants a place over raylor. although i’d like to see tiote take perch’s spot, and knowing full well that wont happen, i hope to see a back for of simmo kadar perch santon take the field.

Comment #18I’m not sure either Kadar or Santon is the answer at CB; Santon may not speak sufficient English to play central defense and Kadar was a great prospect, but really gone off the boil.
Just a thought, but maybe AP may consider Shola in defense as he’s quite versatile, very tall and mobile…..
As I said; I’m just not sure of their capabilities but in Pardew we trust!

Comment #19Hes good for CB, maybe better than any fit in the squad. Santon is better for the wings ( RB or LB ), Simpson the same. Perch in my opinion is not the same class as these youngsters, all three of them are better than him.
The defense should be:
Simpson – Kadar -Perch – Santon
For me Santon would be an absolute starter in LB or even in RB. He will be world class for sure. Wasting him on the bench is a crime. Raylor should play RB or be a substitute.

Comment #20Expat Mag:
Pardew trusts only old and experienced players. We waist our talents to let Perch and other 2nd class players just because they played more games. Even if thats not their main position ( Raylor, Perch is not a CB, and not capable for it! ) And when can AP try out his youngsters if not against Norwich.

Comment #21Lets look at some facts. I’m not a fan of RTaylor but he’s done a reasonable job with assistance from Jonas. Santon cost 5M and is renouned as an excellent player with good all-round versatility.
Jonas plays for Argentina as a LB so why not play him there. Play Simpson and Santon as CB and move RTaylor across to RB. However if he’s fit another option would be to play Tiote as a CB with Santon, leaving RTaylor and Simpson in their natural positions and Guthrie in Midfield where he’s done a very good job. Jonas can protect the left flank.
Drop Ben Arfa for Gosling which would shore up the Midfield. Play Sammy Ameobi on the RW and Shola and Ba upfront to give us a good physical front line.
I’m not too worried however if we set off defensively Norwich will give us problems.
Play positive and give them something to worry about

Comment #23How do we know that Best was fully fit? The last thing we need is another long term injury to a key player. I was just find with Lovernkrands getting a game and while he didn’t help Raylor our defensively he looked dangerous going forward.

Comment #24Jonas did play LB for Argentina but that was a really bad idea. Hes not good enough to be LB and waste of talent. Have faith in the youngsters other then draging right footed wing players to left side defense.
Totally cant understand that.
