Norwich Is Newcastle’s Toughest Game Of The Season So Far

Newcastle missed the spark of Jonas Gutierrez last Saturday against Chelsea.

Jonas Gutierrez – in action for Argentina

And it wasn’t only his direct running at the defense that was missed, but the way he works his socks off and helps out Ryan Taylor at the back was missed too.

And it wasn’t a coincidence that Ryan got the runaround from Daniel Sturridge in the first half last Saturday at St. James’ Park.

Newcastle have just come off a tough three game run of games,  in which they have played the two Manchester clubs on the road and Chelsea at home and got just a single point our of the nine available.

But Jonas still thinks it will be a very difficult game against newcomers Norwich City tomorrow afternoon.

That’s especially true because Newcastle will definitively be without Steven Taylor, who is now out for the season.

And the Magpies will possibly also be without Jonas’ Argentine colleague Fabricio Coloccini tomorrow, without really any suitable replacements ready to come in – well at least not recognized center-backs available – apart from Hungarian Tamas Kadar.

In fact Jonas thinks tomorrow could be Newcastle’s toughest game of the season, because of the injuries we have picked up to Steven Taylor, Cheick Tiote, Danny Guthrie, Sylvain Marveaux, Mike Williamson   and possibly Fabricio Coloccini.

This is what the Argentine said:

“With the injuries, it will be very hard against Norwich, because you don’t have replacements who can play in the right position.”

“We don’t know yet who are going to play instead of Steven Taylor and Fabricio Coloccini.” “It will be hard on those who come in to play somewhere which is not their right position.”

“The problem we have is that you don’t have more time to prepare for that. Maybe if we did, then it might not be that big a problem.” “Norwich is our toughest game of the season, because of the injuries.”

“There may be players playing on Saturday who have not had too many chances to play this season, like Dan Gosling.” “We know that December and January is really important, because you have a lot of games.”

“The players have to be ready because the season has these type of things happening and even if you’ve not been playing, you have to be ready.” “Maybe a draw at Norwich would be a good result.”

” If you saw the fixtures at the start of the season you always think a draw away is a good result.” “We are being strong at home, so a point is good. Of course, we want to get more.”

“Norwich are having a very good season. As we know when we did it, that it is hard to do well having come up from the Championship.” “We know it is going to be difficult, because they like to go forward and attack.”

“It is important to keep our shape and be compact and then, when an opening happens, we exploit it.” “However, we do need to be careful in the set-plays. As we know, one mistake in the set-plays could cost you.”

“Same when we have a set-play at their end as we need to make them count.”

Indeed the fact that Jonas thinks this is Newcastle’s hardest game of the season, because of the players missing,  is tantamount to saying the Newcastle squad is not deep enough, which of course is very true.

Every team goes though spells when players get injured during the season, or players lose their form, and that’s when the squad players have to come in and earn their money and get the job done for Newcastle.

Tomorrow we’ll have at least James Perch, and whoever replaces Danny Guthrie – probably Dan Gosling or Mehdi Abeid – who will need to come in and do a good job tomorrow afternoon,  if Newcastle are to get anything out of this game.

And if Colo doesn’t make it then Tamas Kadar or some other player – maybe Davide Santon – will need to come in, but if the captain doesn’t start tomorrow, we think it will be extremely difficult for Newcastle to get anything out of this game.

Indeed when the team is announced before the game out hearts will drop if Colo is missing from the side, such is his presence and the enormous positive  impact he has had on the Newcastle side this season.

But there again the lads have surprised us quite a few times this season already.

Here’s hoping they can do that tomorrow too. 😀

Offkey lots of things are wrong with that
    1) why wud raylor look at sum1 who has wpn multiple cups as a LB and think why do people think u are better
    2) he hasn’t just had bad games the last 2 games, the last 2 games were just his worst, look at QPR for example raylor got bent over and bum rushed all night
    3) I dont get what is negative about jonas being able to be a winger
    4) santon is italian there skill is diving lol he knows when to dive and when not too (so he wont dive in his own half)
5)sturridge not scoring had nothing to do with raylor… Krul had 7/8 world class saves last week
    6) if u dont see that at least half of what u said is utter bullsh** then u prob shud stop watching football

Gutierez loses possession far too often for my liking he was absolutely horrendous at ManU. Personally Id start the following line up tomorrow

    ………………………….King Krul
    …Simmo………Kader…….Colo……..Santon
    …………………….Raylor…..Cabaye
    Obertan………….Besty….Ba………….HBA

It might be a bit too offensive for an away game but considering our defence isnt our strongest point right now the last thing we want is to inviting pressure on ourselves

Ive questioned Pardews judgement since he started Lovenkrap last week but I doubt he’d be stupid enough to start Gosling and Cabaye in midfield. If he does then were going to take a severe not to mention embarrasing beating tomorrow

U said that raylor wud look at santon and think why are u better then me… Well no Raylor will look at santon with respect because of his past. Raylor will prob b proud he has kept santon out for so long. But he wont look at santon and think who the f*** are u…

Also how am I dressing up opinions as facts?? U said raylor let sturridge past him 5 times in 20mins( and yet sturridge didnt score, santon will be thinking… I cant do that,) well it has nothing to do with raylor that all the times sturridge got past him that sturridge didnt score, that was thanks to krul #fact

Also u still havent explained why jonas getting attacking freedom is bad?

P.S u cud also of just said, I replied on the last page.
Did u know name calling is the first sign of losing a discusion? #fact (or is that my opinion -_-)

toontime – read colwells comment above mine and then read mine – notice any similarities……and apologies for the tool jibe.

The point of the comment was to try and point out that WE dont know if Santon is better than Raylor in that team, in that role right know……to say we do is ludicrous…..trust in Pardew

Toontime you say – Also u still havent explained why jonas getting attacking freedom is bad?

So you factually know that if Santon plays Jonas will get more freedom…………as I said, dressing opinion up as fact

That is correct, but do we factually know if Santon played he would not have got ripped apart.

Course he does…..next Maldini and all that. I just trust Pardew to make the right call…….I may be wrong, it could be like the Tevez/Mascherano thing people are talking about but he has done so well I just can see him being that strange…

We cant say much about both Rtylor & Santon but i can say that Rtylor is not the right fit at left back.

Just look back at our left back down the yaers and you will know why.. Starting with

    LB
Stuart Pearce! One of my fav…! (Overall a Strong player w height & a good lethal left foot)

Not really intersested in long discussions on here about how bad/ good Raylor is or Santon for that matter either!!

I wonder how many people on here take the time to actually read what is published in the artikles published?

Offkey and Toontime: Your gonna get nowhere by exchanging insults or argueing your opinions about Raylor or Santon! Both of you have your own opinions which may or may not be good ones!
Whether good or bad both of you are entitled to the opinions you do have! Learn to repect one anothers opinions without strating to call eachother names and you,ll get a lot further!

    Getting back to the post:
Basically what Jonas is saying is that all the injuries from the last few months have f……..d us up bigtime, and that we have no strength in depth which is needed in the league in which we play.

If there is no strength in depth then most teams achieve C…k_All! There are also only four or five teams in the Prem who have that so called ” strentgh in depth!”!
Look at the players on the benches at places like Shitty and Manure, Chelski and the Gunners too have benches to die for! Who have we got sitting on our Bench!

This i think is the crux of what Jonas is trying to say! or is reported above to have said !
As for the game this afternoon, due to all the players out there is every possibility that we will lose, even the best keeper in the world can,t stop everything if the rest are,.nt playing with confidence!

Having said that i still want us to win, and a win would put us up in the top four again! A draw would be nice but if you look at our start, a fighting win without more injuries would be better!

A lot depends on the Ref to and the officials: ( look what happened to Ajax last week ). Don,t want any Norwich players winking at our defenders as the ball flies into our goal ! One or two bad decisions will screw us too!

Getting back to your debate about Raylor or Santon, i come down on the Santon camp because i think it is pure folly to buy a defender for 5Mil plus and then to let him continually warm a bench seat! Having said that Raylor is a good player who has been played out of position for months but hey! just wanted to be part of the team, and i can,t blame him for that!

Lets get the three points this afternoon and see where we are at 5-o clock!

    HWTL !!!!
