The result at Carrow Road was not good today, but Newcastle played some decent football and didn’t have any luck at all.
Demba Ba – two goals and excellent game today
Newcastle had some of their best players missing in Fabricio Coloccini, Steven Taylor, Danny Guthrie and Cheick Tiote, but two players Newcastle brought in last summer looked very good indeed today – Demba Ba and Davide Santon.
There will be a lot of grumbling going on because Newcastle have a single point from their last four games, but we know the Newcastle squad is too thin and we are paying for that in terms of points at the moment.
And our goal difference over the last four games has gone from +9 to +2.
However there were some positive things in the game today, even though we were beaten for the second game running.
Davide Santon, like most Italians, looked very comfortable on the ball today, and if his league debut is anything to go by, this lad could become a great player for Newcastle in the seasons ahead.
In central defense Perch and Simpson did their best, and it was obvious they had been well drilled last week in training, but Norwich got the goals when it counted today, and why did we play with no height in the middle at the back?
When we saw the team we said we thought Grant Holy would have a good game today, and he did by scoring two goals.
But there is every chance that Coloccini, Mike Williamson and Cheick Tiote will be available gain next week, so we should see at least the captain back in the defense.
But on today’s performance we think the back four could be
Taylor (R) Simpson Coloccini and Santon.
We need some new players in January to strengthen the sqaud – that is now really very obvious, and while the score-line was bad today, but the actal performance was a lot better.
We conceded three goals last week for the first time in the league against Chelsea, and conceded four today for the first time today.
And we’ll not even mention that Dan Gosling made things worse by getting himself sent off in the second half, so he will now miss the next three matches.
It was a great game for the neutral to watch with both teams playing an attacking 4-4-2 system.
Keep the faith!
