Danny Simpson and James Perch deputised in central defense for the Magpies at Carrow Road yesterday.
Danny Simpson tussles with Grant Holt yesterday in a losing cause
And it should be a long long time before we see those two in central defense again for Newcastle, if we are to become a really good side in the future.
That’s no disgrace to James and Danny in that statement, but they are simply not top class central defedners but rather were forced there because of the skelton natire of the Newcatsle squad.
They were the best Newcastle could muster after Steven Taylor, Mike Williaosm and Fab Coloccini were all out injured yesterday.
The Newcastle manager Alan Pardew had this to say to nufcTV immediately following the match:
“Whatever side you pick as Newcastle manager you don’t expect to concede three set plays, and that has cost us today,”
“We knew a clean sheet might have been beyond us with the personnel we had available, so we had to threaten their goal, which we did all day today. And two goals should be enough to take something away from here.”
“They are buoyed by the fact that we haven’t got our two first-choice centre-backs, and three missing in total.” “Any team in the Premier League is going to struggle with that, even Manchester United if they had Vidic, Ferdinand and Smalling out of the side.”
“It’s never going to be quite the same, even though there were a couple of periods where I thought we were in a good position, but the sending-off altered it all completely of course,”
“That was a real shame because at that point we were really in the game.” “Gosling has put himself at risk because he is late. He’s not gone to hurt the player, there’s no way of that. It’s not studs up to make a mark on him. He’s just late and maybe a bit naive there.”
Dan Gosling will now miss the next three games after picking up his red card, and Pardew may now have to think of using top 19 year-olds Haris Vuckic and Mehdi Abeid in the next three games.
But the good news should be that Cheick Tiote will be back next Saturday.
But the news in the Sunday papers today is that he will move to Chelsea for £25M in January, but the London side will need to fight it out with Manchester United first.
Will we keep losing our best players in each transfer window?

Comment #2Would be absolutely gutted if we sell Tiote for whateva fee coz the money will not be spent though the bastards will make promises such as, we will spend the money on new players etc..Jz fck off..What’s the point of buying players when u sell ur best players…I don’t see the logic of letting go good players for average or below average players..

Comment #5TBH, Apart from the center back problem.
I think these 2 lads played sh .. it football
Gosling – He seems out of the match speed and no stamina as well. 1st half he got the ball on LHS around the corner area. he totally didnt know what to do and seems out of stamina after a run.. he passed back due to a goal conceed
Obertan – totally useless , he has good speed good physical …. but he didnt know how to use it. He ofter did trick with totally no use …… on 1 counter attack Demba Ba is free at the LHS …. he did useless trick and slower than the counter attack….. if he pass to Ba, it should be a goal.
Pls drop obertan next match ….

They were good deals indeed. But our bench remains as good as nothing and that 30m+ should have been used to fix that.

Comment #7The problem is we can pay as much wages as the other club can for Tiote. So this days players will leave for money. Thats the fact.
Agent will tell them that their career short in football. Your chioce think about it.
-Even if not selected, by bench warming will still get you lots of cash.
Is nicolas anelka an example?

Comment #8Ed – is it not a 1-game suspension for Gosling for 2 yellows?

Comment #9@magpie6699 Gosling was shown a straight red, was not given a second yellow card. Assuming this offence was a red card offence, and to be honest deservedly was a straight card, so am not going to complain. Just hoping the Cheikmaster returns. And I think if he isn’t back we should give Vuckic or Abeid a chance.

Comment #10With a squad like ours, lacking depth in key positions, we were always going to get a bumpy patch like this sometime during the season. It is clear to all the weaknesses we now have at centre back and it’s in stark contrast to our defensive record at the start of the season. This is being widely discussed in the media and on TV and, in fact, the timing of the injuries may be a silver lining if Pardew can use it to free-up transfer funds for January. The other consideration is the African Cup of Nations, where we’ll lose Tiote and Ba, plus any new players whose countries have qualified – this has to be taken into account in Pardew’s recruitment plans. What is clear is that Pardew has done enough with the resources he’s had and in the financial framework he’s been working in for Ashley to now back him with some transfer funds in order to strengthen the squad.
