Ashley Wants Top Center-Back At Newcastle In January

Mike Ashley wants Newcastle to bring in a new center-back in January and he will support manager Alan Pardew to bring in a top central defender.

Mike Ashley – will support Pardew in bringing in a new center-back

With Steven Taylor out of the season and Colo and Williamson out last week, we showed quite clearly that we don’t have Premier class center-backs available one those top three players are out for one reason or another.

And some potentially bas news today that Pardew still rates both Fabricio Coloccini and Mike Williamson as doubtful for Saturday’s game.

So if Colo cannot make it for Saturday, surely we will not play Simpson and Perch again in central defense  – tell me it aint so!

Tamas Kadar deserves his chance and should be brought in, in the event Colo cannot make the game on Saturday.

This is what Alan told the local press today:

“Mike asked me when am I going to get a center-half.” “It’s about making sure we get the right one.”

“When you look at centre-halves it is easy to get it wrong.”

“You can look at David Luiz, who is finding it difficult, he was £18M and he didn’t play the last game.”

“So it doesn’t matter what you spend, you have to get the right one.”

Last weekend Newcastle went after West Ham’s 22 year-old England U21 International James Tomkins, but the £2.5M bid was immediately rejected.

And we ahve also been linked with Montpellier’s defender Yanga-Mbiwa, but it seems there’s no way of getting Erik Pieters from PSV – at least in January.

And for the game on saturday, it’s ooking like we will only know what the chances of a Newcastle win are, until we see the team for the Swansea game.

Certainly when we saw Simpson and Perch both playing in central defense last Saturday afternoon, we thought it would be very difficult to get anything out of the game at Norwich, because who was going to head the ball away?

If we are still racked with injuries on Saturday, then it could be 3 points down the drain, if we cannot get the win against Swansea, who are not a good side on the road.

Is that really a bad thing? the article shows how even an 18mil defender has struggled to impress.

Pardew has left his mouth switched on again! How does this fit with his previous statements “we’ll have one player coming in, maybe two” bearing in mind there is also a desperate need for a left-back??

If Ashley wants a center back, that could mean he has a bidding war going on for Colo.

There must be a bidding war going on for Ba, since Maiga is all but signed.

Tiote & Cabayer must be safe since NUFC is not linked with any January midfielders. Same with Krul in the goal.

Notice how NUFC pop into the news when some other teams youngster is up for a new contract?

Blackburn have a proven centre half in Samba, tall and solid, surely he would be worth a punt in January. Its interesting that teams like Man U and Liverpool bring in their reserve centre backs and they usually do well, whereas we play fringe players out of position and get punished.

    Team for Swansea

    Krul
    Simpson—Perch—Kadar—Santon
    Obertan(Sammy)—Cabaye—Abeid(Tiote)—Jonas
    Ba—Shola

If Colo or Tiote are back and fit then they will replace Abeid and Perch respectively with Perch maybe playing CDM if the latter hasn’t shaken off his knee injury.

I know it’s dangerous to base a player on youtube videos but this isn’t just a 5 second clip of some striker scoring a wonder goal which anyone can do once in his life.

@Boom88 seems very comfortable on the ball under pressure and good in the air. Yes dangerous to base him on YouTube but seems a good young player and it seems his contract his coming to an end soon. Sign him up!

Think were not going to go mad in January for defenders simply because eventually Taylor will be back and looking at ho we have gone back in for Maiga we will wait until the summer to go back for Pieters…

PSV already told us to forget about going for him in January which seeing as hes injured until February must meen we hold quite a serious interest in him still.

Simpson is going to sign his new contract it seems now so i think we really only need one in just right now due to timing of injuries and not having that one player in to make up the right numbers we are really short – i mean look at man utd they have an awesome back 4 on paper but have been decimated by injuries this season, so it does happen.

hopefully tiote wont go but if he does reckon we will get way more than a player of his ability is worth, wouldnt mind loaning frimpong from arsenal if he does have to go hes just a mini tiote in the making.

“Top” centre-back? Where has he said that?

It’ll be along the lines of what we’re becoming used to, certainly not a “top” defender

Surely Seb Bassong comes into a top Cb bracket at a snip of what we sold for 2 any1 remember he was the one keeping jose on the bench while playing brill at LB saves us buying another LB and paying hes wages when we cud cover two positions with this signing

    Santon———Taylor——–Colo———–Bassong
thats a big strong back four good enough for any strike force

So because Ashley wants a defender in that means there is a bidding war going on for Colo, and because Maiga is coming in that means there is a bidding war going on for Demba Ba? Certainly don’t think that is the case. If I was getting a Xmas wish it would be to sign Chris Samba, his contract is up in June so test Blackburn with a cheeky 5million pound bid, if we are going to spend money don’t spend it on Tomkins who is going to cost 4.5 million anyway (but I think he is a decent young player) spend it on Samba who is monstrous and would really show we mean business.

@ BOOM88 – Definitely looks like he has some quality could be a great buy. However, that video certainly highlights how much of a step up the Premier League is, the intensity just isn’t there players getting far more time on the ball.

Coming up to next transfer window it’s interesting looking at the in’s and out’s from the last year:

    Nolan for Cabaye
    Routledge for Orbetan
    Enrique for Santon
    Barton for Marveaux (sort of!)
    Carroll for Ba

Would you swap any of them back?!

at the strawberryi would have enrique and barton back, due to the fact that santon is currently being kept out the squad by a right midfielder in ryan taylor and barton back as he has undoubted quality however his attitude lets him down

A said a couple of weeks ago a was told by a very reliable friend that we wer hoping to steal a deal for Gary Cahill at 8million wer apparently willing to pay it as other clubs would rather wait 6moth til hes out of contract.. Weve also been linker heavily to Samba these last few days and i know for a fact Pardew rates him extremly highly and a wouldnt be suprised if we went for him in Jan if Cahill doesnt happen.. Would love Samba hes fekin awesome him and Colo until Colo leaves in the summer and we sign Pieters lol the its Samba and Taylor what a fearsome partnership

“So if Colo cannot make it for Saturday, surely we will not play Simpson and Perch again in central defense – tell me it aint so!”

It slams all those who where moaning and groaning at the peoples discontent at the fool knows as Perch and Simmo who is not really built for that role…

Well here is nice SLAP in your face..

The only certainty to be playing CB this weekend is Perch, Willo will be on the bench at best, Colo is 50/50 but should at least be on the bench, Simmo might play at CB if Colo isn’t starting, but Perch will definitely be playing CB so instead of slating the fella or Pardew let’s get behind the team, every last one of them. Perch isn’t as bad as Simmo and Perch weren’t as bad as the calamitous duo of Boumsong and Bramble and they played week in week out! So let’s chill out lads.

And gorgonzola, Ed’s articles incorporate his own opinions into it, and just because he is writing the articles doesn’t mean that what he thinks is gospel (although his blog is immense) Perch and Simmo aren’t going to be our regular starting CBs but they can do a job while we are struggling with injuries.

I would have thought Cahill and Samba would have so called bigger clubs sniffing after them. I think Cahill is a tad over rated to be honest whilst Samba does offer a goal threat and is solid he is no long term replacement for Colo if/when he leaves.
No issues with Simpson playing in the middle if needed but needs some height in there with him, or Colos experience too talk him through a game.

IndianM what does it matter what my view on Pancrate were when he played for Newcastle? That is irrelevant.

@Jamsha Kadar will not be playing. That is the end of it, the fact that he did not even make the bench last Saturday tells its own story, or do you follow events at the club?
