Ashley Wants Top Center-Back At Newcastle In January

Mike Ashley wants Newcastle to bring in a new center-back in January and he will support manager Alan Pardew to bring in a top central defender.

Mike Ashley – will support Pardew in bringing in a new center-back

With Steven Taylor out of the season and Colo and Williamson out last week, we showed quite clearly that we don’t have Premier class center-backs available one those top three players are out for one reason or another.

And some potentially bas news today that Pardew still rates both Fabricio Coloccini and Mike Williamson as doubtful for Saturday’s game.

So if Colo cannot make it for Saturday, surely we will not play Simpson and Perch again in central defense  – tell me it aint so!

Tamas Kadar deserves his chance and should be brought in, in the event Colo cannot make the game on Saturday.

This is what Alan told the local press today:

“Mike asked me when am I going to get a center-half.” “It’s about making sure we get the right one.”

“When you look at centre-halves it is easy to get it wrong.”

“You can look at David Luiz, who is finding it difficult, he was £18M and he didn’t play the last game.”

“So it doesn’t matter what you spend, you have to get the right one.”

Last weekend Newcastle went after West Ham’s 22 year-old England U21 International James Tomkins, but the £2.5M bid was immediately rejected.

And we ahve also been linked with Montpellier’s defender Yanga-Mbiwa, but it seems there’s no way of getting Erik Pieters from PSV – at least in January.

And for the game on saturday, it’s ooking like we will only know what the chances of a Newcastle win are, until we see the team for the Swansea game.

Certainly when we saw Simpson and Perch both playing in central defense last Saturday afternoon, we thought it would be very difficult to get anything out of the game at Norwich, because who was going to head the ball away?

If we are still racked with injuries on Saturday, then it could be 3 points down the drain, if we cannot get the win against Swansea, who are not a good side on the road.

Comments welcome.

Yes, I want Enrique back, but the others arnt missed. Carroll back for loan in January?? That would be great, with an option to buy for 10 million :D, haha. Maybe Alan Pardew said to Carroll that he should play crap and he would come back for less than half of the money. And than MA would give him some bonuses 😛

Rtaylor – left out? Common! You are joking, he is just like a godson to pardew. (Rtaylor is a nice lad, great utility player, but it would be better if we could can someone younger and better, e.g Spur defend backup plp like “rose”, and etc, they have got pace and attack the flank)

We dont have much to expect yet but young Fergie is our proud!

There is no point to risk Smith going out on loan to get injury. What if the club doesnt wants to buy after the loan trail.

This whole story smells bad to me. Can anyone actually imagine Ashley asking Pardew when he is going to get a centre back in? That sounds ridiculous on the face of it. The window isn’t even open. And where is Llambias in all of this? Sounds like Pardew just shooting his mouth off or somebody in the press making it up. But that never happens does it? A 2.5 M pound bid for Tomkins? This is our big bid for a central defender? Talk about pathetic. Typical of Ashley though. Is this one true either?

Davis_toons Smith is a hopeless has-been. The only thing we don’t want to do is put him on the field. Especially if Perch is also in the lineup. Smith was finished a couple of years ago. All he can do now is leave his feet with dangerous sliding tackles that he gets yellow cards for. Perch would not be a central defender at any level. He is weak in the air and can’t judge the distance to his mark properly. He also gets caught on the wrong side of the attacker time and time again. He will be a disaster again on Saturday if he plays CB. This is where our squad is dangerously weak. Having to play these type of players shows the huge lack of ambition by Ashley. Also what manager would sub in Smith instead of Ben Arfa when trailing 4-2? Shear madness as has already been noted on here by others.

@GeordieTwo, the game was over when we were bringing on Smith, he didn’t want to concede a fifth and rightly so. We were down to 10 men, once we conceded the 4th the game was done.

@soundoid…well I don’t wanna be the one that has to do it! ha-ha

Haha pipe-dream that, think he’s Man U bound. I’m sure we’re still keeping tabs on Barnetta too.

There’s plenty to gaze over on those lists. Mathieu Flamini would be a able replacement for Tiote, he’s in the terrier mold, was brilliant for Arsenal, has a great engine, rugged tackler and adept on the ball, maybe he’d like to come and strike up a partnership with his compatriot Cabaye, if Tiote indeed does leave us in the next 7/8 months? 😉

The rumour-mill is chugging into action! 😛

Young Fergie is small built, he can makes run into the box and some big defenders will make him fall. – is proud that Newcastle can produce players like him.

Reported today Carroll gets a loyalty bonus of £150000k from the Fool on top of his £60k a week despite his 13 starts and 4 goals. His agent must have grafted real hard for that contract last January.
The bin dippers are labelling him a a bench warmer 🙂
Wouldn’t have him back unless he was a CB

I dont really fault MA now..as we can see that we have sort of making forwards run for the club tbf. But his power is limited as told by lamb.

As long as they tried we will see it. AC 35million is a big amount compairing Alan Shearer tranfer with a tag of proven.

A ambition club will try to keep hold of the better player if he wants to stay and to adds quality signing to the squad,
eg. 1 quality player per season for us now.

If this goes on …we will get there as well.

I want a strong, commanding centre back that is over the height of 6ft 4ins and can head a ball to give us an option in defending set pieces and attacking. They would also work well with Colo i think. Someone like Samba and Hangeland. Any ideas?

    How about this lads from the bosman list;

    Tranquillo Barnetta
    Pavel Pogrebnyak
    Junior Hoilett
    Gary Cahill
    Salomon Kalou
Jonathan Woodgate (as a Sol Campbell type of experienced old head)
    Yaya Sanogo
    Anthony Vanden Borre

Some good players on the lists. Any thoughts?

I only watched parts of the game last week, and Simpson didnt seem that bad. His job was made even more difficult by Perch, I know Holt is a strong player but he seemed to let him through a bit too easily, luckily Simpson bailed him out with a sliding block. Perch is nowhere near good enough at this level. Quite disappointed Kadar isnt getting a game, but things are never quite so simple at NUFC.

Ive seen Samba mentioned in this thread quite a few times, he would be immense for us. Ive not seen anyone so commanding in the 18 yard boxfor a while, both defensively and offensively. Id much rather see Samba in than Cahill. I think Cahill is good, but also his price may be inflated because he is English.
