It’s becoming clear that PSV have no plans at all to sell £6M rated Erik Pieters to Newcastle next month, when the transfer window opens.
Erik Pieters – not for sale in January
23 year-old Pieters is out injured at the moment with a foot injury, but he will return in February, and PSV Eindhoven have told Newcastle manager Alan Pardew, he is not for sale in January.
Whether he would be for sale in the summer we don’t know.
PSV are currently second top of the Dutch League, 4 points behind leaders AZ Alkmaar, and their Sporting Director Marcel Brands had this to say:
“We won’t sell in the winter, so I don’t expect anything to happen. “
“Pieters will be fit again in February and we look forward to having him back playing for us.
“We’re not looking to sell any players at all because we’re in the race for the title.”
With the Dutch International unavailable, it looks almost certain that the Magpies will now turn their attention to Milan’s 26 year-old Nigerien International left back Taye Taiwo.
Taiwo – loan deal for Newcastle next month?
The experienced left full-back elected to join Milan on a free transfer from Marseilles in the summer, but he is finding life hard in Italy and he has only appeared 6 times for the Italian giants and wants more playing time elsewhere.
It seems very likely that a loan deal could be arranged by Newcastle, and with the full back having spent seven seasons at Marseilles, he will feel right at home at Newcastle, where there are a number of former French league players.
We think Taiwo would be more than willing to join Newcastle on loan, with a potential permanent transfer in the summer, to be agreed as part of the initial loan deal.
The only thing that could prevent that from happening are the Nigerien’s wages being too high, or an excessive loan fee wanted by Milan.
We hope the deal can be made, because Taiwo, whom Newcastle were interested in over the summer, can be the long term replacement for the departed Jose Enrique.
What do you think?
