Pieters Not For Sale – Newcastle Go After Taye Taiwo

It’s becoming clear that PSV have no plans at all to sell £6M rated Erik Pieters to Newcastle next month, when the transfer window opens.

Erik Pieters – not for sale in January

23 year-old Pieters is out injured at the moment with a foot injury, but he will return in February, and PSV Eindhoven have told Newcastle manager Alan Pardew, he is not for sale in January.

Whether he would be for sale in the summer we don’t know.

PSV are currently second top of the Dutch League, 4 points behind leaders AZ Alkmaar, and their Sporting Director Marcel Brands had this to say:

“We won’t sell in the winter, so I don’t expect anything to happen. “

“Pieters will be fit again in February and we look forward to having him back playing for us.

“We’re not looking to sell any players at all because we’re in the race for the title.”

With the Dutch International unavailable,  it looks almost certain that the Magpies will now turn their attention to Milan’s 26 year-old Nigerien International left back Taye Taiwo.

Taiwo – loan deal for Newcastle next month?

The experienced left full-back elected to join Milan on a free transfer from Marseilles in the summer,  but he is finding life hard in Italy and he has only appeared 6 times for the Italian giants and wants more playing time elsewhere.

It seems very likely that a loan deal could be arranged by Newcastle, and with the full back having spent seven seasons at Marseilles,  he will feel right at home at Newcastle, where there are a number of  former French league players.

We think Taiwo would be more than willing to join Newcastle on loan, with a potential permanent transfer in the summer, to be agreed as part of the initial loan deal.

The only thing that could prevent that from happening are the Nigerien’s wages being too high, or an excessive loan fee wanted by Milan.

We hope the deal can be made, because Taiwo, whom Newcastle were interested in over the summer, can be the long term replacement for the departed Jose Enrique.

What do you think?

I don’t think it will be taiwo. Will cost too much in transfer and wages. We will probably get an unknown player. What’s wrong with shame Ferguson he was talked about a bit n now disappeared. Plus davide n taaiwo preferred position is LB

Is Santon not going to get a chance to claim the starting LB spot? Pardew said Simpson won’t be sold until the summer, at the earliest.

no chance, especially if arsenal go in for him, which seems likely as they are short in numbers.
although he’d be a great signing

what happened to cissokho? im guessing he’s too expensive… what about m’bengue aswell.

I don’t think we’ll even go for a LB…there seems to have been a general expectation that we’d sign Pieters but I’m not sure why after Santon was brought in. I’d expect us to bring in a low cost CB; maybe even a loan deal and a CF….again I wouldn’t expect much money to be spent. Looks likely to be Maiga from all press reports which seems a strange one to me as a) he’s another African b) he’s not that good. It’s very possible we could bring in a low cost defensive midfielder too….you just get the feeling that Tiote is going to be sold on as hes worth a few quid and the owner has no
footballing ambition, the £20m or so from that will no doubt do a Lord Lucan alongside the Carroll money

The coming home newcastle site puts out some insightful stuff and does some good analysis of our games and less of the speculation

    Satan,

Do you actually have any proof that Ashley has taken a penny out of the club? If you look at the club’s audited accounts, he has actually given us a 130m interest free loan, which would normally cost 6M a year in interest in alone. As someone said the training facilities upgrade alone cost 18M+

Throw in 7 new players on long term contracts, agents’ fees etc, etc and 35M doesn’t go as far as it used to!

    Santon Colo M’Biwa Taiwo

would be amazing. M’Biwa hopefully, Taiwo no chance, but surely Fergie could play there instead of Raylor. We need more youth coming through, not just Krul. If we buy and when everyone is fit, this would be a great team.

    Krul

Santon Colo M’Biwa Taiwo / Fergie

    Tiote Cabaye

Guti / Obertan Ben Arfa Marveux / Sammi

“Its Feast or Famine at the Toon” says Sav @6….. Sav, but I’ve scanned the web and can’t see any reference to them.

Who do they play for, what positions and are they any good?

Hey Rotonda, please get Satan to take the record of his his old wind-up gramophone. Better still, if you or anyone can get hands on that boring, old and oft-played record of his, please smash it!

@1 what makes you say santons preferred position is LB he’s right footed mate and only played there for milan because there was no way he was taking maicons position (RB) he will shine on the right and make do on the left, he also plays RB (usually) for italy u21s
