Reports In France That Maiga Failed His Newcastle Medical

There are reports circulating in France that Modibo Maiga failed his medical,  for his January transfer to Newcastle  United.
Oh no!

Modibo Maiga – failed his medical

Newcastle had already agreed a transfer fee of  around £6.5M for the Mali International striker,  and the 24 year-old was supposed to sign a five and a half year deal just before Christmas – on 22nd December to be exact.

The medical was carried out over two days in London,  on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week, but there many reports now coming in confirming that he has indeed failed the medical  because of  a knee problem.

Karim Aklil, Maiga’s agent had this to say to L’Equipe tonight:

“I am disappointed at this turn of events,”

“Modibo is in perfect physical condition, which was confirmed by one of the leading experts in the field and I am quite surprised of the medical diagnosis by the doctors appointed by the club.

“I am convinced that the future will prove us right and that Modibo will prove his worth and will remain one of the best strikers in the Championship of France.”

And there seems some disagreement on the prognosis of the Newcastle medical doctors, as Professor Jaeger is said to be the leading expert in his field, mentioned above by Aklil.

Jaeger has contradicted the opinion of the Newcastle medical doctors, and has confirmed Maiga is in perfect health.

The French Daily L’Equipe has reported that Maiga will not now be joining Newcastle, because  of a knee injury, and his club Sochaux are said to have held a crisis meeting on the news.

The subject of that meeting is said to be the future of Modibo Maiga.

After all, the drawn out negotiations for his transfer to Newcastle,  have been going on for over six months now,  and £6.5M is a lot of money for any French club.

L’Equipe are now reporting that Newcastle will go after top French International  striker Oivier Giroud, who is some player for Montpelier and is 25 years-old.

The 6’4″ striker is in tremendous form for table-topping Montpelier, and he has scored 14 goals and has 5 assists for his club in only 18 appearances this season.

Giroud could be valued at about the same price as Modibo, so we’ll just have to wait and see if Newcastle make some official statement on this rather surprising news.

We’d be very happy to see Olivier Giroud through the door at Newcastle, but the Tyneside club will have to move very quickly.

Newcastle fans need to see a top striker coming into Newcastle next month, as the late but promised replacement for the departed local striker Andy Carroll.

If true, I reckon it might be a bit like Stoke and Ba. An underlying issue that wouldn’t stop them taking him on a free but when a relatively large fee (for us) they look elsewhere.

Clearly we’re not up for paying £8m (or however much it was going to be) for someone who MAY have issues…

Lol, wow, what do u say to this? Tough luck…
Many were sceptic of him, so maybe this is the best thing for both parties.
Well, well, let the speculation commence on the next target.
I think De Jong could do a great job.

Well just because he is in good form doesn’t mean he doesn’t have an underlying medical issue. It must be a much more severe injury concern than Ba or Marveaux if we have turned him down. I haven’t seen much of Maiga or Oliver Giroud so I would like to hear from Niafron to see what his opinion on the situation is.

But would we have signed Marveaux or Ba if they weren’t free transfers? Maiga was rumored to be costing us up to £10m – depending on which made up source you listen to

Expecting atleast 20 strikers to come to us within the next week.

TDS I just noticed that you had made that point before I had typed that and when I had read that point it does make sense that taking a chance on a player with an underlying health concern isn’t as much of a risk if he’s free so yeah it does make sense. If that is the case then good call, only sanction transfers that are in the best interests of the club long term.

theres not been a report of maiga being on tyneside in the uk and ive heard nothing of a medical although that means nowt these days what with the secrecy surrounding the club these days :S. i thought he was going to acon anyways so would be stupid to buy him in january and have him only only play for a couple of months afterwards

Wasn’t he going to be absent for ACN anyway? Seemed a bit of a silly move considering Ba is going too.

Maiga would be a good partner for Ba. He’s got flair, and can take on defenders. Maybe we offered Shola in part exchange, no wonder why Sochaux pulled plug on the deal 😉

Nimo a CB was always supposed to be on the cards even before the defensive crisis, Willo’s injury in August highlighted a worrying gap at the back so we needed to bolster that part of the side anyway. So I would doubt that had anything to do with it. Also we need a striker so if he was fit and nothing wrong medically I am sure the transfer would have been sanctioned.

Ease down on the extacy u’re on, and be a bit nicer to folks.

U’re WAY to harsh, and u’re comments aren’t exactly always as intellectual either.

Giroud is exactly like our strikers, perhaps most alike Ba, i don’t see the need.
We need a pacey, technical striker. Not a big strong one, again.

This “injury”, the ACON and the fact that we will be paying money for him is obviously why we will probably not go after him now. Kinda feel bad for Maiga, all too good to be true for him however this Giroud guy is something
