Chelsea To Offer Cash Plus Players For Cheick Tiote

News today in the Evening Chronicle that Chelsea are indeed putting together an offer to try to tempt Newcastle to part with their star defensive midfielder, Cheick Tiote.

Cheick – get out there and smash those Chelsea players

The London club came in for Cheick last January and it’s hardly been a secret they will try again next month, and it could be that they will have some competition from Manchester United.

Newcastle are not really interested in selling the Ivory Coast International who is well liked booth in the Newcastle dressing room and by the fans, and Alan Pardew has said it will take silly money to buy the player.

That is a different stance taken by Alan from what he was saying last January about Andy Carroll, when he said the player was simply not for sale at any price.

We all found out that price was £35M up front in cool cash.

The new news is that Chelsea could offer Newcastle some players in exchange plus cash for Tiote, but of course it all depends on which players are offered, although maybe Alex will be one of them.

A source close to Chelsea told the Evening Chronicle today:

“Tiote is a player everybody at Chelsea admires.” “There are a number of options and possibilities on offer, but we will have to see what the mood is when the window opens.”

Chelsea are said to be willing to offer center-back Alex, Didier Drogba and Salomon Kalou, but those players are kind of old, although Josh McEachran could also be offered on a loan deal.

We’re not sure any of those players would interest Newcastle, although they may want to separately try to get Alex for around £3M, since he seems a decent option,  who could really strengthen the current Newcastle defense.

We’ve always liked Kalou, who at 26 fits better into the Newcastle policy of buying younger players, and this lad has skill and loads of experience playing at the top level.

It would be hard to give young Josh a game, and we’d rather see playing time given to Mehdi Abeid or Haris Vickic, rather than bringing along a future Chelsea star.

So it may just take a big cash offer,  maybe with Alex and Kalou thrown in,  but our view is it would take something like £15M plus Alex and Saloman Kalou to tempt Mike Ashley to sell.

We trust that if Ashley does sell he’ll want to get a stupendous deal again – like he negotiated with Liverpool for Andy Carroll.

One deal breaker could be the wages of those two Chelsea players, and that could add a complication.

And of course if Tiote goes, then Alan Pardew  would need to bring in another central midfielder before the January transfer window closes.

But we think Newcastle are in the driving seat with this deal, as they were with th Andy Carroll deal, and if they don’t get a mammoth (make that silly) offer, then Chelsea can forget about Cheick Tiote.

Cheick would then form the basis of a new Newcastle United side that Alan Pardew will continue to build on Tyneside.

What do you think?

TIOTE, get in, this is similar to the team that started the season, our midfield rock is back. Anyone else noticed that Ben Arfa is on the front of the BBC thing today.

Hopefully Collo will manage Perch well.

    @Klatoon
I heard a rumour about Raylor havin a minor injury, could just be a precation, but in any case, i’m so happy him and Smith are no where to be seen today. About time now, imo.

Great news about the team- surprised raylor isn’t even on the bench though. Think Guti’s going to have to be doing a lot of covering this game. From the look of the Norwich game Santon loves to attack and with Colo back he may well never leave their half.
The return of Best as well
    Excited

What is the point of Ben Arfa if he doesn’t make the starting line up ahead of Best against a team like Swansea?

@Dannyo – I hope so, but Perch makes some terrible decisions. His foul when there was no need to foul gave away the goal last week that killed us off.

He is a terrible player. Terrible. The fact he is in before Kadar frightens me.

@Gorgonzola do everyone a favour and instead of boycotting the game how about you boycott this blog so we don’t have to listen to your pathetic Perch bashing on a daily basis. So we’re still going to concede 2 goals with Colo and Tiote starting? against a side who haven’t scored away from home!?what are you smoking.

I hope they missed eachother so much that they score 2 goals each today, and Yohan tops it of with a 30 yarder.

In any case, haven’t been this excited about a match since the one before Man Utd. Whichever we played then, lol.

So for the conspiracy theorists, and those who slammed Pardew for being stubborn and refusing to drop Raylor, that Tiote was not injured but being held back to be sold to Chelsea, and that Smith was going to start and that Pardew hasn’t any tactical sense GORGONZOLA THIS ALL DIRECTED AT YOU now you can eat your words you spluttering fool!

That whole ramble was completely besides the point. I also watch La Liga & Serie A – althought I only watch Serie A highlights etc, as I don’t have ESPN 🙁

    Roma’s president said that Chelsea bid something like 50 million Euros for De Rossi last summer (can’t remember the exact figure). So I would say that they would rather have De Rossi (;

Also, I didn’t say we should sell him haha. I just really doubt he’ll fetch £30m! And therefore there’s no point in selling him at all. His value will only increase over the next few years.

Chelsea have Romelu (spelling?), who they paid a fair bit for, and looks very very promising. Essien is a monster (when fit 🙁 ), and managers seem to like Mikel. Meireless is also someone I really rate, and seems to be able to play anywhere in the middle.

So I would wonder why Chelsea need Tiote :/

Manchester United hardly need a defensively minded midfielder either… they need a player who can pick a pass and create something. They barely concede any goals at all – in fact I’m pretty sure we have scored the only league goal against them since they got thumped by City?
