News today in the Evening Chronicle that Chelsea are indeed putting together an offer to try to tempt Newcastle to part with their star defensive midfielder, Cheick Tiote.
Cheick – get out there and smash those Chelsea players
The London club came in for Cheick last January and it’s hardly been a secret they will try again next month, and it could be that they will have some competition from Manchester United.
Newcastle are not really interested in selling the Ivory Coast International who is well liked booth in the Newcastle dressing room and by the fans, and Alan Pardew has said it will take silly money to buy the player.
That is a different stance taken by Alan from what he was saying last January about Andy Carroll, when he said the player was simply not for sale at any price.
We all found out that price was £35M up front in cool cash.
The new news is that Chelsea could offer Newcastle some players in exchange plus cash for Tiote, but of course it all depends on which players are offered, although maybe Alex will be one of them.
A source close to Chelsea told the Evening Chronicle today:
“Tiote is a player everybody at Chelsea admires.” “There are a number of options and possibilities on offer, but we will have to see what the mood is when the window opens.”
Chelsea are said to be willing to offer center-back Alex, Didier Drogba and Salomon Kalou, but those players are kind of old, although Josh McEachran could also be offered on a loan deal.
We’re not sure any of those players would interest Newcastle, although they may want to separately try to get Alex for around £3M, since he seems a decent option, who could really strengthen the current Newcastle defense.
We’ve always liked Kalou, who at 26 fits better into the Newcastle policy of buying younger players, and this lad has skill and loads of experience playing at the top level.
It would be hard to give young Josh a game, and we’d rather see playing time given to Mehdi Abeid or Haris Vickic, rather than bringing along a future Chelsea star.
So it may just take a big cash offer, maybe with Alex and Kalou thrown in, but our view is it would take something like £15M plus Alex and Saloman Kalou to tempt Mike Ashley to sell.
We trust that if Ashley does sell he’ll want to get a stupendous deal again – like he negotiated with Liverpool for Andy Carroll.
One deal breaker could be the wages of those two Chelsea players, and that could add a complication.
And of course if Tiote goes, then Alan Pardew would need to bring in another central midfielder before the January transfer window closes.
But we think Newcastle are in the driving seat with this deal, as they were with th Andy Carroll deal, and if they don’t get a mammoth (make that silly) offer, then Chelsea can forget about Cheick Tiote.
Cheick would then form the basis of a new Newcastle United side that Alan Pardew will continue to build on Tyneside.
What do you think?
Comments welcome.

Comment #125JackButler the only way to get back to his best is to start playing games otherwise it’s never gonna happen for him….plus with Tiote back it’s the perfect time for him to play in that withdrawn role behind Ba rather than 442.

Comment #128Hit a nerve? You do have a high opinion of yourself. I suppose with your mum telling you how cool you are on a daily basis that could lead to an inflated ego…

Comment #133I never once defended Xisco and Smith was fantastic during our Championship season, and while he is not good enough for us in the Prem I appreciate his contribution during the Championship season. So instead of bashing our players I get behind them, each and every one of them.

Well simple sir, I said at 1:0 game over…and to be honest it pretty much was game over….
In all honesty no matter how much I love this club and how much LUCK we had in that game it finished 1:1
Now if I start to talk absolutes Perch should be shot, but that is another kettle of fish… ANYHOW if you reckon we outplayed and came back to nearly defeat MAN UTD you are sir a LIAR….
That game was game over…..result prooved otherwise but because of a poor decision…
Anyhow doesn’t matter enjoy Perch….

Comment #144We were the better side in the first half, they got a soft goal, we then turned up the pressure and got a fortunate penalty. It was an even game until Jonas got sent off and they bombarded us and we defended stoutly to keep them out. At 1-0 the game was far from over…they scored in the 49th min how can a game be over at 1-0 after 49 minutes?

Comment #146SORRY FOR THE CAPS LOCK.
JUST WANTED EVERYONE TO READ THIS:
How funny it is that today there are so many streams of our team’s game. Almost all the “Big teams” are playing on sunday:
Man C, Man U, Arsenal, Liverpool and Spurs.
And Chelsea are playing in a different hour so…. lucky day for watching the game, will the game go our way too? 🙂

Comment #148Perch was bought by Chris Hughton.
He’s had the honour of wearing the B&W shirt and running out at ST James’ Park on a number of occasions.
I wish I’d been talented enough to do it once.
Good luck to James Perch today.
I hope we keep a clean sheet and Perch scores the winner.

Comment #149STURRIDGE + 10-15mil is reasonable enough, and with the 10 we could get a pretty decent Centre Defensive Mid, so hope we could push this through!
As for CB- TOMKINS is the best buy and 3mil is amazing value for money and we’d be done for January and that too
DONE WELL!!!

Comment #150Torres and I would be happy 🙂
Might get lynched for that but the guy is pure quality and didn’t become a bad player overnight.
He’s just been poor at Chelsea….
He’s a real goalscorer and we’d get 20 goals a season off him

Comment #151As long as Cheick is not pushing for a move, which apparently he’s not, then there is no reason whatsoever to sell a top player on a 6 year contract in January. He could play for us for another 3 years and still command a big fee – maybe even more than now if he fulfils his potential.
