Newcastle have been linked with Crystal Palace’s teenage striker Wilfried Zaha since last September.
Wilfried Zaha – will Newcastle pay £10M for this 19 year-old?
And now there is news in the Daily Mail today that Newcastle want to sign the 19 year old in the January transfer window.
Zaha had an excellent game in the Crystal Palace surprise 2-1 victory over Manchester United in the Carling Cup at Old Trafford on November 30th, and that may have been the game where Newcastle decided they would go after the player next month.
Newcastle are not the only Premier League club interested in the youngster, and he is rated at a high £10M, and we wonder whether owner Mike Ashley would be willing to pay out that much money for a 19 year-old?
However, there is news that Wilfried is also ready to sign a new five-and-a-half-year contract at Palace, and the London club are saying the youngster is not for sale.
Wilfried joined Palace back in 2007, and made his debut at home to Cardiff City in March of last year when he was just 17.
The youngster has so far played 70 times with 6 goals for Palace, and this season has 26 appearances for the London club with 5 goals and 5 assists.
Last season he was a regular at just 18 years old and made 43 appearances with a single goal, and Newcastle were linked with this player back in October, so the story may even be true.
Wilfried was born in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire in 1992 and started his career at his home town club ASEC Mimosas, and he has already represented the England U19 side twice, making his debut against Germany last February.
He looks a very decent youngster from what we can tell, but whether Mike Ashley will fund a £10M transfer for the player is a good question.
We would be surprised if he would do that.
What do you think?
