Newcastle Again Linked With Young Ivory Coast Whiz Kid

Newcastle have been linked with Crystal Palace’s teenage striker Wilfried Zaha  since  last September.

Wilfried Zaha – will Newcastle pay £10M for this 19 year-old?

And now there is news in the Daily Mail today that Newcastle want to sign the 19 year old  in the January transfer window.

Zaha had an excellent game in the Crystal Palace surprise 2-1 victory over Manchester United in the Carling Cup at Old Trafford on November 30th,  and that may have been the game where  Newcastle decided they would go after the player next month.

Newcastle are not the only Premier League club interested in the youngster, and he is rated at a high £10M, and we wonder whether owner Mike Ashley would be willing to pay out that much money for a 19 year-old?

However, there is news that Wilfried is also ready to sign a new five-and-a-half-year contract at Palace, and the London club are saying the youngster is not for sale.

Wilfried joined Palace back in 2007, and made his debut at home to Cardiff City in March of last year when he was just 17.

The youngster has so far played 70 times with 6 goals for Palace, and this season has 26 appearances for the London club with 5 goals and 5 assists.

Last season he was a regular at just 18 years old and made 43 appearances with a single goal, and Newcastle were linked with this player back in October, so the story may even be true.

Wilfried was born in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire in 1992 and started his career at his home town club ASEC Mimosas, and he has already represented the England U19 side twice, making his debut against Germany last February.

He looks a very decent youngster from what we can tell, but whether Mike Ashley will fund a £10M transfer for the player is a good question.

We would be surprised if he would do that.

What do you think?

If we were to get in before the new contract is signed, it could be cheaper. Carr and Co. have a good record of sniffing out not just players but vulnerable contract situations.

Is anyone counting how many different players we are being linked with?

Don,t think this one will ever happen coz we won,t pay anywhere near 10Mil for a 19 year old!

No chance of 10m being spent on an ‘up and coming’ player….simply won’t happen at that price. Maiga deal being off is interesting; the guy’s basically an Ameobi upgrade so I’m happy it’s off; he’s not that good…seems like we’ve maybe shafted his medical though to squash the deal, that’s if you listen to the reports from the medical specialist. Begs the question why….maybe Ba’s great form has made MA think we can get away without another CF? Or maybe another target has emerged? Time will tell…

Aright, but i still stand for him not being worth £10 mill just for being a CP player, lol 😉
    Their club isn’t worth £10 mill 😛

Even tho he is very highly rated, I cannot see CP asking 10 million. Say 5-7 million is more realistic IMO. I’d much rather invest those 7 million on Zaha than Modibo. Zaha’s quickness is exactly what we need up front.

Buy Wilfried Zaha in January to replace Obertan, and then next summer bring Luuk de Jong from Twente to cover Demba…

Bring these two in January and I’d be a happy man!

    Zaha – 7 million
    Tomkins – 3 million

Taye Taiwo would be great signing on loan, but as it would be a loan deal, I cannot see it happening.

@Dannyo – I completely agree, I reckon the fact that we’ve kind of been bitten in the arse with Marveaux getting injured too has made them all the more wary.

ED will ash pay 10M for him ? without a doubt yes, he must be a bit special, ash will know that after 2 years of developing the lad and preparing him for a good career with a top 4 ambitious club doubling his investment is minimum.

@Klatoon- Not only will he cost money. He certainly hasn’t been scoring or playing regularly. Had a great start, then hasn’t scored since the 1st October. He’s on the bench or not included as regularly as he plays (Started 8 of the 16 league games)
