Newcastle Linked With French International Defender

According to a report in FootMercato  Newcastle are said to be interested in Bordeaux center-back Michael Ciani, who was born in France and is of Guadeloupean descent.

Michael Ciani – are Newcastle really interested?

This is the first time we have been linked with this player but at 27-years old he’s not particularly on the young side.

The French International (one cap against Spain in March, 2009) joined Bordeaux in 2009 and has played 77 times for them with 9 goals. he is on a four year contract  at the French club, where the wine is good.

Ciani has played at various French clubs in his career and stands 6’2″ tall, but we don’t really know a lot about this player, and we wonder if the report has any truth to it.

Overall in his career he has played 230 times with 16 goals overall, and Bordeaux at the moment right in the middle of the French league in 10th place.

We’d be surprised if Newcastle are really interested in this player and of course Newcastle have been linked with  Chelsea and Brazilian center-back Alex, but we don;t know if that report is true either.

But in our poll, 75% of Newcastle fans think we should sign the 18 times capped Brazilian.

The player we like is James Tomkins, the 22 year-old West Ham player,  who is also an England U21 International.

But we cannot see West Ham being daft enough to sell him to Newcastle half way through their Championship season, especially when they are hooping to be like Newcastle and get straight back to the Premier League(where they belong)  at the first attempt.

We could see James coming to Tyneside this summer, but that will depend on who Newcastle sign next month, and make no mistake, we definitely need a good center-half to bolster the squad.

As far as Ciani goes, we’d be  a little bit surprised if Newcastle are really interested in the player.

Does he have a pair of boots? Oh that’s why we’re linked with him then.

Smith is a better trials bike rider than footballer so I’ve heard! Should be used more as a coach now to see if he’s any use to us at all because it fills me wii dread to see him on the pitch.

I’m quite curious to see where Smith will play next year? Will he retire, or will he accept that he’s nothing more than a CCC-player today?
