French Reports Newcastle Could Sign Top French Youngster

There is news in  France today that Newcastle are close to signing young wonder-kid Sofiane Elbekri of Racing Club Lens.

According to the French Daily L’Equipe, Newcastle are close to capturing the signature of 15 year old midfielder Sofiane Elbekri, who is currently at the Lens Youth Academy.

The lad has been compared to Manchester City’s Samir Nasri, but it’s  difficult at such a young age to know if  the lad  will come through as Samir did.

As we all know, many fall by the wayside before they even reach the age of 20, but this is good news if it is true, as Newcastle continue to look for top young talent.

Newcastle seem to have a growing relationship with Lens, and of course they got then 18 year old top midfielder  Mehdi Abeid on a  free transfer from the French club in the summer.

And Mehdi has already made his Newcastle debut, and was on the bench for yesterday’s 0-0 draw with  Swansea.

The 15 year-old starlet  is also being followed by Tottenham, but L’Equipe are reporting that the elite Magpies  are close to signing a deal to bring the youngster to the burgeoning Newcastle Academy.

Sounds like a very promising player! Great if we can get him.

Lens has produced some great players, i cant remember his name, but one plays for Real Madrid, and we all know Abeid is a wonderkid, just loving that we’re after these players. Bodes well for the future of the club.

I love this youth policy and Fance does seem to be the place for rich pickings. Wish we would get that 22 year old M’Biwa from Montpellier and not pay 5M for pardew’s ex player Collins at Villa who is 28 as has been suggested.

It’s great we have all these fantastically skilful players like Cabaye and Ben Arfa etc, but we seem to have become reduced to just banging it long to Best or Shola and waste so much talent playing through midfield. I hope this isn’t the end of ben Arfa, a la Tevez under Pardew as the only time we get it down and play is when he comes on.

Good to be linked with some top youngsters tho I hope we get more than just kids in the January window and players who can come straight into the team.

Looking to the future it would be a good signing.

A part of me always hope we have to use youngsters through parts of the season, a part of me even hopes that we’ll have to use Adam Campbell and possibly Dan Taylor up top in January. We all know Campbell has the ability, but Dan Taylor has been a bit of a surprise, he scores goals for fun, just like Chopra did in his day. Daylor also seems to have great movement off the ball and positions himself well. Was great for the reserves last time and got great reviews.

We’ll see, we’ll see, but i always admire watching the hunger, passion and fight in youngsters coming on to the big scene for their first time.

You don’t know what you’re talking about! I watch these kids all the time, but they’re only YOUTH players!! Campbell couldn’t get a game for the u18s earlier in the season and Taylor is playing a year BELOW his age. They are both great prospects but are a million miles away from the first team. Give them a chance to develop before you start hyping them up like the Chronicle does!!!

That’s like saying Liverpool have a ‘growing relationship’ with Newcastle – by trying to snap up our best players!

It will be great to get him so we can sell him on to the highest bidder – certaily not to build a sucessful team.
