Jonas Gutierrez was not pleased on Saturday that Newcastle failed to garner all 3 points against Swansea City.
Jonas Gutierrez – in action on Saturday
It was important to put in a good performance on Saturday after the very poor performance at Norwich, and Newcastle did that.
And it has to be said the lads had no luck on Saturday, otherwise they would have been at least a couple of goals up in that first half, when Newcastle dominated the game and dominated possession.
Jonas wanted nothing but a win, and he wasn’t happy with the draw after the game:
“I want to win, I wanted the three points. You saw what happened today, we got a point but I’m angry it wasn’t three,” “It’s not a good point. I think we did enough to deserve more than a draw, but that’s football.”
“Their keeper made some good saves, but we had the chances to win it. It’s not a good point for us at all. It was different in the second half, we didn’t have the same amount of chances, but we had control of the ball.”
“And we had the possession so we should have made that count.” “It was a big game for us, and in these games we need the three points.”
“It was good to have Cheick and Fabricio back. They are important players and we needed them back in the side.” “For the last two months we’ve been playing without a complete squad.”
“It is hard for the manager going into Christmas where we have a lot of games.” “It is good to have those players back, we’ll be back in full training and we’ll get stronger.” “It’s important we have a full squad, it builds confidence.”
“When you don’t have a full squad, like last week at Norwich where we had two central defenders out of position, it’s hard for the players there and it’s hard for the team.”
“Now we’ve got to focus on working hard and waiting for the other players to come back from injury because in January it is going to be very hard.”
“December and January are really important times for the team.” “What we’ve done before now is important, but we’ve got to think about the future. We have to think about what we are doing now.”
Good words from Jonas and he’s right that we have to push on from where we are at the moment.
The lads did very well to come back from what was a poor performance at Norwich City, and probably the worst performance of the season for a Newcastle side, although we were without Coloccini, Steven Taylor and Cheick Tiote at Carrow Road.
Wins breed confidence, and that’s what Newcastle now need on Wednesday evening against WBA, although Yohan Cabaye will be missing from the side, after picking up his 5th yellow of the season on Saturday.
A win against a mediocre WBA side, will set us up nicely for the two away games that follow against Bolton and Liverpool, and then we are at home in early January to Manchester United, and anything can happen in a game like that.
But we’d love to have around 33 points by the end of the year, and that means two wins from the remaining three games we have this year.
Last year we had 22 points from the 19 games at the end of last year, so that will be a 50% improvement in points compared to last season.
That cannot be bad, and although it will not be easy, the lads can do it.
Comments welcome.

Comment #41LGFUAD21, Good read and all very sensible and agree with everything, up to the mention of Podolski. 20 million? Somehow I just don’t think so.

Comment #51@Kirky Don’t know much about him but having a quick look online, he’s quite a tall lad at 6f 4 and he seems to be quite a confident header.

Would change Vukic for Benny and put Jonas on the left, but I’d like to see Abeid and Tiote together

Comment #55And Pardew’s explanation for the lack of Ben Arfa appears to make sense.

simmo—perch–colo—santon
————–tiote———-
obertan————–cabaye—
——–b.arfa—jonas——-
—————ba————-
I was thinking something like this to get guitierrez in that attacking position where he can cut in the centre and take a strike- same with ben arfa.
Suppose the big flaw is it leaves Cabaye pretty exposed in a left midfield/defensive position and looking at it now there probably would be gaps but anyone think we could score more goals like this?
more attacking more linking up going forward
or what about this
—————Krul————
simmo—perch–colo–santon
—————tiote———–
cabaye—————–guitierez
————-ben arfa———–
——–best———–ba——–
no obertan which would get rid of complaints about him and more attacking. again only real concern about this one is cabaye out of usual postion and that is the only thing that doesnt look right but imagine going forward…
…ive got a lot of spare time atm

Comment #57I dunno. Seems a bit strange that it’s fallen through, but as long as we bring in top quality.
Watching Teixeira on you tube. Seems to win balls in the air and comfortable on the ball. Likes to get into forward positions and scores a few goals.

Comment #61He’s a brazilian-born Dutch professional football player. That will account for his venturing up field then 🙂 seems a bit Samba-Esq to me, which is good of course.

Comment #62I think Perch will keep his place as he played well against Swansea and it will give Willo more time to get his fitness back.
Also heard that the Giroud being available pushed the Maiga deal to the back burner, don’t know if this is true or not but Giroud would be my preferred choice of striker
