Danny Simpson, Newcastle”s 24-year-old right back, will be sold by Newcastle in the summer, if he has not signed his new contract by then.
Danny Simpson – got maybe until June to sign new deal
That was made very plain by manager Alan Pardew recently, and come the summer Danny will have only 12 months left on his current deal.
And Newcastle will want to sell him then, rather than lose him for nothing in the summer of 2013, when he would become a free agent.
Not only that, but Newcastle would immediately bring in a replacement – at either left back or right back – since Davide Santon can play on either side.
As far as we understand it, the contract negotiations have been going on for quite a while now, and it was during the summer that news first broke, that he would not sign the new and improved five year contract, that had been offered to him.
To his credit, the contract negotiations have not affected his form this season, and he’s shown improvement over last season, and we think he can keep improving and become a very good player in the Premier League.
Danny has come out today, not for the first time, and talked in lyrical terms about the Newcastle United club – that’s the one he is refusing to sign a new contract for.
Here’s what Danny had to say:
“I don’t want to leave this club, I love it at Newcastle,” “I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I love it up here and I’m enjoying my time regularly. I’m settled up here with my family now.”
“The team are doing well; it’s a massive, massive club. We get 50,000 every week and my form has been good. Why would I want to leave?”
“I know the manager wants me to stay and I want to stay too. I’m confident that we will get something sorted in the summer because we both want the same things.”
“People are getting a bit worked up because the contract has not been signed yet, but these things take time to finalise.”
“It’s just a little bit disappointing that news of my talks have come out but deals are never done quickly.”
We don’t know what to think about the situation, because if he wants to sign a new deal why leave it until the summer, and of course it’s within his interests to work down his contract, because then Newcastle will get less for him in the transfer market.
That’s to Danny’s advantage because the less a club pays for him, the more he can expect in wages – that’s the way it works.
This could be a delaying maneuver by Danny, and we don’t think Newcastle will wait much longer than early summer, before they put Simpson on the transfer list.
You cannot blame the club either, because they need to know who’s going to be with them next season, and whether they need to bring in a replacement in the summer.
We have a feeling that Newcastle will again bring in around six players next summer, and if they are of the caliber of the players that arrived last summer, then Newcastle could become a top six side next season.
Yohan Cabaye and Demba Ba are two of Newcastle’s best players this season, and young Davide Santon already looks star quality, and is potentially a big player for Newcastle in the future.
Add to that the youngsters who will be coming through even more so next season, like Sammy Ameobi, Mehdi Abeid, Haris Vuckic, Shane Ferguson and James Tavernier, and the squad should be much stronger next September.
Whether Danny Simpson is part of that squad is completely up to him, and as far as Danny is concerned, the Newcastle train is leaving the station next June, with or without him.

Comment #161davybtoon, I heard that Obertan is in the best 20 dribblers in the PL last weekend. Was said on “The Legends” today but can’t find it. No matter how much I Google.

Yup, Obertan was in top 20.
Cabaye had run the longest.
Demba Ba had eight shots at goal against Swansea, without hitting the net, most of any of the last fixtures.
Cheick Tiote completed 38 passes in the opponents’ half in the game against Swansea, the joint second highest total of any player in the last games.
Davide Santon won eight tackles and didn’t lose any, the highest total in last weekend’s games.
That should cover it i think 🙂

I’m rooting for Vuckic to start and HBA to play behind lone striker, but we’ll see. Don’t dare to guess tbh, it’s all up in the air.

Comment #166I think saylor could be the solution at rb if we brought in anotha top centre half but ideally we want a specialist. Hes certainly quick enough in my opinion and great going forward. Could really grow into the role if given time to adapt imo but really you want four top centre half’s if you plan to compete and a couple of each fullback

Comment #168would love to see us get Clyne like…
And on the Jonas/Obertan issue.. Jonas is 10x better his work rate is better he actually plays the game to his strengths by running at players whereas Obertan wont, Also Jonas can pass Obertan cant lol.. Jonas can cross at times Obertan cant all his crosses go low and get blocked.. Personally Obertan is the weak link at the moment but thats not me saying he’s rubbish because a think if he actually learns how to play football to his strengths then he could be one of the best RW’s in the league he’s got everything its just about getting it out of him and Pardew seems determined to do it even when he plays terrible..a think he’d be better coming from the bench when the opposing team is tiring then he’ll look class

Comment #169Obtan can improve in his game. But an at time Ben Arfa can also play RW, why not?
AP does’nt believe in him for defence. But Obtan just does a little bit better in terms of defending/ chasing the ball down.
How abt attacking and creating the attacks?
Just take a look at Man City game for an example, does a many nice trick on the right…haha.. and provide a good throu ball to Ba, etc
Time will heal and improve the team.

Comment #170Ben Arfa made his name as a WINGER so a really dont understand why Pardew would rather keep him on the bench and risk losing him if he cant fit him in CAM.. he’s class on the wing and looks lost in the middle

Comment #171Dannyo & davybtoon, SAF doesn’t make many mistakes. But I think he may be ripping his hair out next season. When Obertan comes good, I think it’s going to be bloody good.

Comment #173Really do hope Obertan comes good like he has literally everything needed to be a great winger its just about regaining his former confidence and then producing.. doesnt help when his own fans boo him and jeer him off the pitch.. doesnt matter who the player is you should never boo your own players

Comment #175Newcastle is just getting better quality players now. Just needed the right one who’s on form to fill the shoe.
Best is a nice player as well but as AP says so..goal is still sort of lacking in him. But able to create for his partner and and he do pass well. Nice player to have in the team.
But We needed another goal machine. Shearer NO.2.
TO KILL THE DAMN GAME OFF…eeee..eee

Comment #177Newcastle have got options at DB.
Shane Ferguson on the right, Taking Santon on the Left.
AP tried and tested before. Simpson was the one who make way for the Sub during the match.
At LB Santon did ok. Bring the ball up and join the attack as well.

Comment #180To be honest a dont think Benny will start producing if hes not in his best position which is wing… His fav position maybe CAM but his best is a winger.. a love Ben Arfa and agree he needs to produce but he cant produce anything if he isnt getting any minutes on the pitch.. he was about to come on until Tiote got injured then Vuckic came on instead.. also Sammy Ameobi should go out on loan to the championship, he needs to improve and is kind of getting very over-rated when he doesnt really offer much

Comment #184its actually amazing how much crap people talk on here who write comments often as if they know the truth for a fact an then people believe them! Danny is on 18k has been offered 22k and turned it down because he feels he should earn as much as players such as RTaylor who is on significantly more. Why write stuff if you are clueless on the situation? Maybe not on this post but on others such as players signing its likely to get other fans expectations up or dishearted. I dont post often but when i do its because i no for a fact!
