Big Test Of Newcastle Character Next Monday At Bolton

Newcastle didn’t look solid last night in defense, and that may be an understatement.

An unhappy Alan Pardew after the game last night

West Brom don’t usually do very well and don’t usually win on Tyneside, and in fact last night was the first win for them at Newcastle since way back in 1977, when I was only just past being middle-aged. :D.

And a frustrated Alan Pardew talked to the local press today:

“We are disappointed – we cannot hide that.” “It was a game we wanted to win and get ourselves 30 points before our Christmas dinner, but it did not happen.”

“Their front two unsettled us a little bit, and made us edgy.” “We lost a bit of discipline in our shape, which was unusual for us.”

“We still did some marvellous stuff and came back twice.” “Haris had a fantastic debut as a 19-year-old. There were positives, but in all honesty we should have done better.”

“We are not sure about Davide. He had just come into the team and settled in. It is disappointing.”

Davide Santon has suffered a knee injury,  and we have to think it’s the one he’s had trouble with before.

Davide had fluid on the knee a few months ago, and it’s an injury that troubled him while he was at Inter-Milan.

The good news is that the Italian  was seen leaving St. James’ Park without a limp last night, and he looked fairly comfortable according to local reports, so we have to hope he was brought off as a precaution, and not too much damage was done.

Davide will be looked at this morning by the Newcastle medical team, and we have to hope he can start at Bolton, because this lad looks a good player at left-back for Newcastle.

It will be another test of Newcastle’s character on Monday afternoon, and of course the first goal will be all important, as it was last night.

But Newcastle must use their team spirit and keep fighting whatever happens on Monday, because the next thing on the agenda for Newcastle this season is to turn  this bad slump around.

That’s the next challenge for this team, and there are always ups and downs in life and in football.

The proof of the pudding is in the eating, and in this case it’s how our lads rise to the challenge that’s right in front of them.

Howay The Lads!!

If by paying to bring in someone like Samba mean we can take Smith off the books then so be it

    @Geordietwo
They will be expensive, thats why there highly rated. But as you said Ashley is unlikely to fork out the money, but these are players we should go for in january and the summer, plus the likes of smith, lovenkrands of the wage bill so thats around £70000 off the wage bill which can get you 2 extra players

davybtoon… were you here that? if its Jan Vertonghen then he is very highly rated, and is canny young i think. would be an excellent signing and could keep saylor out the team when he returns.
am i the only one who realised ben arfas world class pass yesterday, i thought it was incredible in such a tight space. noone else in our team could pull of that ball, possibly cabaye but i havent seen him play many through balls along the floor. ben arfa has to start against bolton whos defence are very slow and looked poor against the worst team in the league (blackburn).

chelsea have already said they arent interested in buying a midfielder in january because essien is back soon? thats what ive read when they were linked with rodwell who is on a shorter contract and on less wages than tiote. plus everton are in alot of debt and need to take the money, i can see rodwel going to man u and modric going to chelsea. hopefully a few scouts were at the match watching tiote last night as they wont come back for a while after that performance lol normally takes him a few games to get back to his best after returning from injury, so hes should be back to his best for bolton.

Kadar isnt near the first team and neither is Ranger anymore tbf (and now he is back he will have to work his backside off, which he isnt keen on apparently, or hope for another loan chance)

Aye but cant change ur stripes can ya haha.
Either we rate him still or he is on a decent sized wage level and no other club sees his as viable because of his issues

davybtoon… i watched ranger play for whoever he went on loan to ( it was on sky ) and i still think he has all the talent to become a top striker, he looked a different level to the players he was playing against, good first touch, very strong, pretty quick. he should of been loaned to the championship at the start of the season rather than wasting his talent sitting in the reserves and getting into trouble.
i think we are more likely to get clyne with simpsons contract situation (he looks very good and linked up well with sammi for the u21s). if we got both MA would go up in my estimation.

redman? at birmingham looks like a top prospect and im sure houghton would put in a decent word for us, hes been destroying players in the eufa cup and is only 17/18 i think.
hba name was being chanted for about 20 mins before he came on, hes got to start soon, hes put 2 on a plate for ba, hit the post against man city and won us a pen in a game against man u were we never looked like scoring. he frightens defences/ midfielders alot more than best and ba has said they have a very good understanding. he seems to find space when their is none and as soon as the rest of the team start making runs for him he will have alot more time to play more through balls to ba.

davyb… vuckic left tiote exposed a canny bit in cm, tiote was being marked by 3 men alot of the time because one of their strikers were dropping deep and vuckic was running into the space between midfield and defence. swap vuckic and jonas and i would agree that is our best team atm. his corners were into the perfect areas yesterday and noone got on the end of them. i was sat perfect behind his second shot and it was dipping in perfect.

what i liked about vukic was he prepared to hav a shot not jus them 2 screamers but he had 3 or 4 more efforts that went jus wide him n ba were the only ones havin a go

i went to watch a reserve game just after he was bought and he was the same height/ weight as he is now he looked like a monster next to the youngsters he was up against and he was trying through balls and shots that you wouldnt expect from a 16 yr old i think he scored twice and set up one, ever since then ive been saying hes the top prospect coming through. when we were in the championship i said he should have been playing rather than smith who at the time was just kicking people and giving away stupid freekicks on the edge of our box. he came on once and played left wing and played canny well, didnt look out of place and did everything simple which is not what you would expect from someone with so little experience.

davy its a option but lets be honest it wont happen

4-4-2 is our primary tactic then 4-4-1-1 back up I take it u mean a Xmas tree 4-3-2-1? With HBA and Vuckic behind Ba? I cant see us ever doing that

A 4-2-3-1 is more likely but with the players we have I doubt its going to happen either. Our FBs need the wingers support so they cant be left that far up the pitch imo

Plus I doubt HBA would have to be the central player in the 3 so Vuckic would have to be winger and I doubt highly he would be ahead of Gutti, Obertan or Marv
