All I Want For Christmas Is A Newcastle Win

Me wife Madeline came up to my study about an hour after the West Brom game had finished and asked – Well how many did they get beat by?

Alan Pardew – wants win on Monday – same here

It’s funny how after 39 years of marriage the spouse can sense these things isn’t it?

I then went into a solid logical explanation of how all three West Brom goals were terrible, and how we really should have won – but when I turned around she had already left the room, which seems to happen a lot these days.

It’s certainly true that Newcastle fans didn’t get the Christmas present we were all hoping for and 30 points before Christmas, but hey, I’m willing to wait one day for a belated present.

And the lads can do that by winning at Bolton Wanderers on Boxing Day, and it seems that’s exactly what manager Alan Pardew  wants to.

Bolton will be full of confidence after climbing off the bottom place, by beating a hapless Blackburn side 2-1 at Ewood Park on Tuesday, but Bolton are hardly at their best at home this season, and have a  terrible home record.

This is what Alan Pardew said on the Newcastle web-site today

“I wanted 30 points for my Christmas dinner, but I missed that.”  “But Boxing Day dinner will be okay.”

“I’ll accept that, so hopefully we’ll win at Bolton but I’m sure Owen’s got other ideas about that.”

“But we’ve had a fantastic first half of the season, and we’re looking to build on that in the second half.”

Alan is right and we are 8 points better off than last year at this time, and we shouldn’t be too gloomy this Christmas season.

As we tried to point out earler today things are still looking up at Newcastle, and who knows a win on Boxing day – even if the winner comes in injury time through an own goal – would be absolutely great.

And that would take Newcastle to 30 points and only 10 points from safety. 😀

Howay The Lads!!

we’re a lot better off than any of us expected this year! Only 2 results thats really disappointed me were the last 2 against west brom and swansea! We desperately need 3 players that can go straight into our first team in january! A centre half and a striker for Ba to play off are a must though! Think in 2012 we will see Obertan make a big improvement, for me Jonas needs to contribute more to assists or goals but this will help having santon in the side!

Someone said on the last thread we should get drenthe at the end of the season since he’s on a free as is hoillet, if we got those two in with hoillet RW and Drenthe LW with ben arfa behind ba our attack would be very fast and full of skill.

    Definitely at least one CB.
We were 1 short (Campbell) before Saylor’s injury. 1 buy, 1 loan?

A quality striker as only Ba is top 10 quality.
Shame about Maiga – not sure what’s going on – are we trying to get him cheaper? Seems typically dodgy.

Another full-back unless Ferguson is genuinely pushing for a place.

Will Llambias actually spend some cash?
Or as the ground is full and Prem status almost guaranteed will he sell.
I expect a flurry of failed late bids.

The way things are going at the moment, I can’t see where our next win is coming from. Let’s hope Williamson comes back in and does a job for us. Steven Taylor has been a real miss as he was one of the main reasons for our good start to the season. We do need those 3 points at Bolton on Monday as can’t see us getting much from Liverpool or Man U,the next two fixtures, the way we are playing just now.

I think it’s time to start to setup the team to compensate Ben Arfa playing in the hole. It’s about time that he starts and the midfield will boss the game against Bolton so he will definitely see lots of the ball to influence the game.
