Williamson Could Start At Bolton – Coloccini On Four Yellow Cards

Mike Williamson could well start at Bolton on Monday afternoon.

Mike Williamson – could return at Bolton on Monday

But if that happens James Perch could well get another run out in central defense fairly soon, and that’s  because Colo is on four yellow cards,  and one more caution will see him miss one game, just like Yohan Cabaye did on Wednesday.

Newcastle were still vulnerable a bit in defense on Wednesday because at 6′ ‘ Colo isn’t the tallest center-back around, and he needs somebody taller alongside him, like 6’2″ Steven Taylor or 6’4″ Mike Williamson.

Indeed expect the new center-back arriving next month (there’s some hope in that statement) will be tall at around 6’4″.

Unfortunately Colo collected his 4th yellow card in the last few minutes of the game on Wednesday,  so expect Colo to miss one  game fairly soon.

Maybe we will have a new central defender in by then, but we doubt it.

Alan Pardew talked about Mike Williamson today:

“Mike’s trained well. We’ve missed our No 1 header of the ball since Steven’s been out.”

“We’ve conceded from set plays, and it’s important that he comes back in the team at some point.”

“And, of course, Bolton are a big side.”

It was a bad night for Newcastle fans on Wednesday, because we were looking forward to a win and surely Newcastle could beat a middle of the table side in  WBA, especially after a solid performance in the previous game against Swansea, in which we kept a clean sheet.

Colo did not have a good game against WBA, but Pardew came to the defense of  the Newcastle defender today:

“I don’t think that’s a problem for him because of the injury suffered against Chelsea. He puts himself on the line,”

“He needed a bit more help. The back four were a little bit stretched. That’s something we’ll look at for Bolton.”

“Colo’s very important. You can’t legislate for four bookings,”   “He has to be committed in the challenge, and hopefully the referee doesn’t deem that it’s a yellow card.”

“I won’t tell him to play any differently.”

And Davide Santon will miss the game on Monday, since he has fluid on that knee again, and it may have to be drained again, but if everything goes okay, he could return at Anfield  for the game next Friday.

We’d like to see Williamson return on Monday night if at all possible, and  a back four of Simpson Williamson Coloccini and Ryan Taylor looks quite strong.

But of course both Colo and Williamson had poor games in this same fixture last year,  when we were hammered 5-1, and both picked up three match bans from that game.

If that happens on Monday night we will be in very serious  trouble again.

To be fair to Perch he’s done when well the ball has been played on the ground, he just struggles when the ball is in the air something that Colo is not exactly strong at and thats what we’ve missed with Saylor and Willo being out

I remember when the Willo Collo partnership was as good as we could get.. then Taylor and Collo.. then Perchinho and Collo……. Now Willo Collo again.
Cant wait for our next win, it is embarrassing reading all the posts stating we are only losing because of the name change and that Perch is the worst player in our team at the moment… If Perch really is the worst player in our line up.. Andy Carroll is ACTUALLY worth £35m

Would you guys rather have Perch play, someone who has played a decent run of games and in mentally and physically match sharp and someone who has proven a lot of his critics wrong over the past 2 games. Or Williamson, someone who has not played a lot of football this season, and someone that will be struggling for 2-3 games while he gets used to playing at high pressure again..
Im with Perch on this one. but under normal circumstances, Williamson because I rate him higher after his championship season

Willo all day for me. You get match fit by playing matches. He is simply a better player.
Perch hasnt been a totally abject failure but he will get knocked all over the place by Davies.

    Hey guys!

Here is a video of yesterday’s Twente vs PSV encounter. Our reported defensive target Douglas played for Twente and made an error for the PSV’s winning goal. What seems more important to me is the class and quality of Tim Matavz, who scored both goals for PSV. He is quick, strong, can score with both feet and of course can head the ball as well. I really think we should go for him at one point in the future. He is from Slovenia (like myself and Haris Vuckic 😉 ) and I think he is the best striker ever to come from our country.

@Drongo not sure he has played any reserve matches yet since returning from injury, so he could end up giving freekicks away in dangerous areas, or give away a penalty or pick up another injury because he was rushed into playing too fast.. I like Williamson, dont get me wrong. But I think it is in the best interest for the club if we start Perch for the simple fact that he is in a better position to play.
I am pretty sure Davis would knock anyone around, and I can remember Ivanovic having a hard time against his last season and he is not exactly a stick like Perch

I fear that Pardew going on about how we need height against Bolton will mean he has 4-4-2 with two big men up front in mind. My bet is he will go for Ba & Ameobi so they can defend set pieces. Hope not though !!!

Forgot Cabaye was back! your right he does go straight in to my starting 11 based on both his footballing ability and charm!

Well i did right perch and cross it out about four times but i just didnt want to put Raylor so i wasnt really left with many options. I would like to see Ferguson tried but that isnt going to happen so i didnt bother.

Gutted about west brom result but gotta keep the faith.

3 points on boxing day is achievable but bolton will fancy it after our last results and their win at rovers.

Flippin baggies scoring 3 at our place again has got me worried tho – it surely cant be a repeat of last season at the reabok! No f-ing way!! Our luck has to improve…..doesn’t it?

I agree that Smith is a dreaful player. He hasnt got one once of creativity in him. When he played in the season we got promoted we didnt really pass teams off the park did we with Smith in the middle, long ball to Andy Carroll most of the time.

I loved Tiote from the moment we signed him. I hadnt seen him play but i knew he was here to replace Smith.

Yeah smithy is rubbish now. He was at one stage a force as a holding midfielder, he just started to gradually become a fuseball player moving in horizontal lines (small ones) across the centre circle.

Was ridiculous giving him the deal length he got.

With things like that its hardly any wonder that fatmike is reluctant to put his hand in his pocket!

With hindsight Smith shouldn’t have got such a long deal.

However he did and he’s entitled to pick up his wages until he’s released in the summer.

No need to slag off an ex-club captain.
He’s only slowed down because he got multiple injuries from being an amazingly committed player/tackler.

yeah, it’s pretty good here come Christmas, but for some strange reason all the years I was a kid while it hovered around the 30 degree mark everyone had to have a hot roast lunch. Dunno why. Must have been tradition.

I think that the team at Bolton should be…

    Krul
    Simpson
    Williamson
    Coloccini
    R. Taylor
    Obertan
    Cabaye
    Tiote
    Gutierrez
    Best
    Ba

    – Obertan to play to gain confidence (has the beating of Bolton left-back Paul Robinson (old and slow))
    – Best to start in front of Ameobi and Hatem Ben Arfa (who may play wide right however Pardew reluctant to play him out wide- even though he played Champions League drifting in from right)
    – Vuckic to be on stand-by, perhaps to play in a five man midfield instead of Leon Best- solid play up away from home, and give a more free-role to Yohan Cabaye
