Payback Time At Bolton – Willo A Massive Bonus For Newcastle

Tim Krul is fast becoming one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League.

Tim Krul – magnificent save form Martin Petrov

And Tim kept Newcastle in the game yesterday with just a fantastic save from their danger man, Bulgarian International Martin Petrov.

Martin was threatening to score a few times yesterday,  and he got through the Newcastle defense on 39 minutes and hit a crisp shot that seemed to be headed for Krul’s bottom left hand corner of the net.

But Tim got down to the ball brilliantly at fully stretch, and just diverted the ball with his left hand for the save of the match, and kept the score level at 0-0.

Tim remembered the 5-1 beating last year at the Reebok,  and indeed in the last eight trips there Newcastle had lost seven time before yesterday’s win.

This is what Tim had to say today:

“It is a great Christmas present,” “We worked hard in the morning yesterday on Christmas Day, but this is our rewards for that.”

“This is one of those games that before the season you are not looking forward to going to.”

“It is a hard place to come – we know that from last year – and it’s a bit of a payback from us for last year, when we had a very difficult game.”

“What a fantastic result though. A clean sheet and three points, and it can’t get any better than that.”

“Besty worked his socks off for the first 60 minutes and that paved the way for Hatem to show the extra bit of quality which he brings to the team,”

“And it was great to see Willo back as well. He won every header and it was such a massive bonus for us because it stops all their momentum.”

“He was class, for me and the team. Having been out for that long, he didn’t look like he had been away, and it’s fantastic to have a solid player like that back in the team.”

“It gives you that extra bit of confidence.”

We knew Mike Williamson was something special when he made his debut for Newcastle in January last year,  and he came into the side after never playing for the Portsmouth first team, and he put in a flawless display  in Newcastle’s 2-0 win against Crystal Palace .

And Mike again showed yesterday what an important player he is for the Newcastle club, and his return has immediately paid big dividends. What a buy this lad has been for just £1M!

If  Mike and Coloccini can keep up their good form, then Newcastle can again be very solid at the back, and maybe even go on another good run in the league.

But Mike was a hero yesterday, make no mistake about that.

Comments welcome.

Willo ran the third most distance yesterday, just behind Cayabe and Tiote.. good effort for his first full game back from injury…

HBA’s goal pure class, same as Obertans cross for the 2nd.. I hope that gives him a bit more confidence.

Lee Dodd who would want kaka (ok, sci fi talk, but theoreticaly) for 22 mio at 29..injured for 3 months every season.. for 22 mio we could actually get what we need, not another CM.

even if tiote is sold we dont really need a replacement straight away.. cabaye can play as DMC, so can guthrie, & we have youngsters (vuckic) to play more attacking..so..defender & a striker..thats a must in January. pardews trying to get best in form, but hes not producing.. he might find his form but..im not sure..

Krancjar would be a waste of money when we already have Benny and Vukic, we need to spend in other areas

Playing Cabaye as DM would be a waste.
Not saying he couldn’t do it – he could, but the value of Cabaye is making the attacking midfield tick.

Watched Villas Boash getting interviewed on sky sports and he said apart from a central midfielder there would be no other big signings in the window,I hope he’s talking about Jack Rodwell, even if we sell Tiote for 20 million ,we have to spend five million on a replacement, thats a profit of 10.5 mill,is it worth screwing up a team and the fans aspirations, unless of course there isnt going to be a replacenment and then thats a nice fifteen million profit,ah makes sense now !

he’s closing in on Cahill and that wingback from Porto,Pereyra??? Also coupled with Tiote’s “dodgy” form since returning from injury,im feeling confident of keeping Cheik till the summer.

Why do we need Kranjcar when we already had HBA and Vukic? We only have 3 centre half’s and one of them is out for the season, 1 left back and 1 striker of note, if we gonna bring anyone in Kranjcar is a luxury we simply don’t need or can’t afford

I watch most of the matches at the pub having given up my season ticket when Ashley moved my seat. Anyway from what I have seen best does an awful lot of running for the team and has shown some very tidy skills which have created lots of space for Ba and allowed the team to build up play and involve the midfield. While he hasn’t scored many recently I’m his partner is and given time I’m sure he will nick a few himself. As for Obertan I think we just expect too much as he came from man u with a big rep. Realistically we signed a young lad who is v fast and has good skill but hardly any match time in the uk. Given time he could become excellent although I have to admit frustration when he doesn’t burn the full back at every opportunity like we all feel he can. And remember Obertan only has Simpson behind him! Watch how often possession is given away from full back positions and how little threat going forward our fullbacks offer. For our wingers to look the bussiness we must have good fullbacks.

As for mr t well I think he will b gone in jan and the club will have know this for a while so hopefully they will have someone lined up.

Team for me at Liverpool (I know after defending best I’ve dropped him!)

    Krul
    Simp Coll will sant
    Cab. Tiote
    Ober. Arfa. Guti
    Ba

I’m not Trying to be negative but everywhere I go I see people are talking about how good we were. When were not good at all, we got lucky.
For the first 70minutes we were playing hoofball and from what I saw on MOTD we got about 3 great chances 2 of which ended as goals.
Then people start talking about how we can beat liverpool, i cant see it. They have a better defense and attack then bolton so we might get one lucky chance And for the rest of the 90 get spanked and lose 3-0.
Of course I hope this doesnt happen
Post match interview pards said what we did worked. No our tactics didnt work untill ben arfa came on they handeld us and had the better chances(not many though) but against liverpool this isnt going to work. If krul launching the ball we will never be able to attack from a goal kick, cause we AlWAYS lose it, either best headers it to no mans land or it just lands by a defender.

In short unless we stop playing hoofball we wont finish in the top 10 and we won beat liverpool

We have enough players, cabaye, tiote, ben arfa, Ba, jonas who can pick out easy passes and wait for a mistake by them defensively and exploit it, so why dont we?

HBA needs to start and tactics need to change, atleast pardew learnt not to sub in the 92min haha

Enough negativity from me 😛 luckt but well needed 3 earned HWTL
(obertan looked a tad better yesterday, and our defense from set pieces looked stronger)

It took Pardew 65minutes to come to his senses and bring Ben arfa on as he must realise Jackie milburns statue has more mobility than Leon best and pardew couldnt resist talking up Tefal obertan for his one and only cross of the game against Paul robinson whos about 40yrs old but ben arfa showed the class act he is dare pardew drop him against Liverpool!

I hate to Say it But Tiote Has Not Set The World Alight Like Last Season and if Mike Ashley gets a Bid of over £25 Million like daft Clubs Like Chelsea are Prone to do then HE WILL Be Gone. That will Then Give Alan Pardew The Money To Spend on new Players But Who DO We get ??? We have to Push For the Top 6 This Season !!!!!!

Pretty well agree with toontime and plan b comments.Never realised any premier team could play as bad as Bolton did yesterday and if Hba hadn’t come on as we all wanted the score would still be 0~0 even if they had still been playing.good to see Willo back but stronger teams to come.

ffs Kranjcar is a winger while both Ben Arfa and Vuckic are attacking midfielders! Its just like saying we dont need any cbs as we have loads of midfield players. We are short on wingers, obertan and Jonas have been poor in the last few games and if one of them do get injured, it will have to be young Sammy Ameobi to take up the place which in my opinion is not yet ready to play!

I don’t want to vilify Obertan, but as he has many pals on here, would one of you please tell him to stop doing stupid backheel passes where he hasn’t a clue where the ball is going, in the middle of our own half? He is so half-hearted about defending and hides so often after making a pass it is hard to forgive that. Especially working alongside Jonas who is a past-master at being the modern grafting winger. Gab should be learning from him and Tiote should kick his arse for aimless back-heels.

T00ntime I can’t agree – I watched the whole match and the MOTD highlights did not give a true picture. First half we were not great but still created a few chances and Bolton only looked dangerous from set pieces. The two goals killed the game and overall I would say we just did enough to win against a poor Bolton – but is that not the sign of a good team?
