Alan Pardew said the second goal was the turning point in tonight’s game, which came after 67 minutes and it was the second goal by by former Newcastle player Craig Bellamy.
The two managers at tonight’s game
Here is Alan’s interview he gave to the BBC immediately after the game.
Alan was disappointed by the second goal as Newcastle had played well in those first 20 minutes of the second half when the score was 1-1.
It’s interesting that Alan said there were one or two players Newcastle were looking at in January.
It was only one game, and not one that Newcastle really deserved to get anything from tonight.
Newcastle seemed not to be as positive as they usually are, but Alan seemed pleased enough with the performance.
But it’s only one game – and we’ll come again next year.

Comment #3I’d play Raylor right side of midfield and Santon left back. HBA behind Ba.

Comment #4It’s easy to jump on Pardews back after tonight performance, but the fact remain we’re in 7th place, higher than anyone could have hoped for, and I still say that if we finish 7/8/9th in the league it will be a very good season for us, his hands are tied regarding players being bought and sold so lets hope against all the odd’s that we get through January with out selling anyone of importance and we sign 1 or 2

we changed 4 key members of our team this year, and the 3 that came in have all fitted in well
only obertan hasn’t done what people have expected, people got there hopes up cause with out seeing him u heard french u21 and man utd and though he will be a ronaldo
it was simple over excitment for a player known as a benchwarmer… people expected to much from a player whos played two or 3 times in 3years… since he has started to play he is making more and more runs on and off the ball… the confidence is slowly coming back
but if it wasnt for team spirit this wudnt happen… cause fans like you boo him off the pitch which destroys him and makes him think he needs to prove himself to people like you.. which he doesnt, he has proved that he has the skill needed we just need to give it a season or 2 to come through
on here people talk about great players leaving newcastle…carroll took 3/4 years in senior team to do anything… barton need 2 jose need 2 colo needed 1…
does it not teach u anything?? obertan needs time
and for the 60th time obertan is only playing cause our other winger (marveux who also gelled quickly) is injured
and dont even start with raylor on the RW cause raylor is slow cant tackle and his crosses 8/10 go wrong… ur just think of his set pieces and that doesnt make him better then obertan.
raylor is a utility player nothing more nothing less

Comment #7and I spotted another problem… by the sounds of it u expect points from man utd… well I’ll tell u know ur going to come on here on the 4th of jan all pi**ed off that we didnt get anything and blame it on obertan again…
when really its just cause u expect to much… we havent won at anfield since 1984 or something like that.. i think the last time we scored there was 2004 so to think we were going to win is ur problem not that obertan is so bad

Comment #9Dont judge me on things you don’t know. I have never booed a NUFC player and never will. I might not clap him off but I dont boo him.
Also I definitely didn’t expect him to be like Ronaldo. I actually watch football and know good players. I have said since Day 1 that Obertan isn’t good enough. You say Raylor can’t cross? Can Obertan!? He can’t keep possession, cant pass or shoot.
As for Carroll, did he play in the first team for 4 years before he came good? No. Colo and Jose were in and out the team too but they showed glimpses.
Obertan shows nothing. Biggest reason being he doesn’t have a football brain and you can’t teach that. He simply isnt good enough.

Comment #11Ed- when are we ever positive? Have certainly not been for the past month and a half. All this talk of attractive passing football is exaggerated. We had a fantastic start which was due as much to luck as our playing, but we are where we should be now… Fighting with stoke, everton etc. to be the best of the rest.

Comment #14T00ntime- you don’t know very much about me at all do you? Stop making things up.
I hoped for a point tonight and hope for a point on Wed. I don’t expect anything just hope. I am a season ticket holder and have realistic expectations. I am delighted with 7th especially when we have championship players like Obertan, Best, Shola.
I bet you are one of the people that say Xisco has never had a fair chance!!??

Comment #15Nufc90 – Ronaldo and Nani were never as bad as Obertan. If Obertan was going to be a superstar would Sir Alex let him go!?

Comment #16Alan Pardew seems to be pleased with the perfomance?Obertan wud have been servicing Pardew’s 3 inch standing ovation down there.
Jonas was poor,
Obertan- 1/10
simmo-1/10 unacceptable character!

Comment #17Think most football supporters havea fairly keen eye, for footballers that look the part and those that do not. Obertan unfortunately does not look the part and stats sort of support that view.
He is a backwards sort of play, because if you notice more often than not if he gets the ball from a colleague he plays it straight back to him.
Another downside is that he will mark a player but never tackle him, them allow that player to distribute the ball to whoever he likes.
Sorry but he’s not for me, nor was he for Fergie

Couldnt string two passes together? You need a new telly mate. Livcerpool were chasing shaows for long periods last night. If you were to ask Charlie Adam and Jay Spearing if we were capable of passing the ball they would give you an answer. 70% posession at one stage, we passed them to death. BUT, certain players had a lack of bravery (Jonas / Obertan), and the final ball was often either disappointing, or we turned back and became less positive. But for the amateurish and pathetic defending by Danny ‘give me a better contract because I am world class’ Simpson, we would have got something out of this game. If it were up to me I would give this muppet a pay cut, and back date it.
Square pegs in round holes: Raylor at left back. Jonas at left wing. Obertan anywhere on the field of play. Simpson anywhere at any premier league club.

Comment #19Pardew’s boneheaded player selection cost us 3 points yesterday. Only a manager stuck in the dark ages thnks you can win games by flooding the midfield with players and lumping long balls to the big man up front. Dalglish completely outclassed him in terms of tactical awareness. It would be more reassuring if he came out and admitted he got it wrong. Instead he’s talkng nonsense about the second goal. Liverpool outplayed us in the first half. That pressure finally told . Weve never had a world class back four. OUr defensive strength has always been in our ball retention ability and Leon Best -w ho Pardew saw fit to drop yesterday- has been key to that
