Liverpool vs Newcastle – Match Preview

There’s no doubt it will be a tough game tonight at Anfield, but with just a little bit of luck Newcastle can take something out of this game.

The news is that Newcastle have not won at Anfield since way back 1994, so it’s time for a win, but a draw would also be good result for Newcastle tonight.

The good news is that Liverpool have hardly been great at home this season,  and in their 9 home games in the league they have won three and drawn the rest, and have scored only 11 goals while conceding seven.

Indeed, Liverpool have picked up more points in their nine games on the road this season,  winning five and drawing one, for a total of 16 points compared to 15 points  at home.

Newcastle have won four and drawn three of their 9 road games so far this season.

If the Newcastle defense is as solid as it looked at Bolton on Monday afternoon,  there has to be a decent chance that Newcastle can keep a clean sheet, and if we can do that,  there’s every chance Newcastle can take the win with the form our striker Demba Ba is in at the moment.

And it’s almost certain that two players who were at Newcastle last year at this time – Andy Carroll and Jose Enrique – will both start the game and Craig Bellamy, another former Newcastle player, could also start the game tonight.

It was great to get Mike Williamson back on Monday afternoon, and his performance in his first game back for four months, was very good indeed, and he probably didn’t receive the plaudits he deserved after the game.

That could have been because Ben Arfa got most of the headlines for a great first goal, and by turning the game around in favor of Newcastle, when he came on after 61 minutes.

But if we can get another solid performance from Mike and another excellent display from captain Fab Coloccini in central defense, we should do well.

Yohan Cabaye and Cheick Tiote, back again in the center of midfield for the Magpies, looked good on Monday.

And if they can control midfield, who knows, we could even get a win tonight, which will take us above Liverpool and into 6th place in the Premier League, and make Enrique and Carroll wish they were still on Tyneside. 😀

Danny Guthrie is still out injured with his hamstring but Dan Gosling is available again after serving his three match ban for being sent off at Norwich City.

While Alan Pardew could easily start Ben Arfa and the fit again Davide Santon, we have a sneaking suspicion that he will keep the same team, so here is the line-up we expect him to put out tonight.

Krul
Simpson Coloccini (c) Williamson Taylor (R)
Obertan Cabaye Tiote Enrique
Best Ba
Subs: Harper Santon Perch Gosling Ameobi (Sa) Ameobi (Sh)  Ben Arfa

The keys to this game are that Newcastle are very solid in defense, and that they can take their chances up front, when they come up.

Newcastle are getting back to the form they showed in the first eleven games of the season, after being decimated by having their three top center-backs out in the one game at Norwich City.

That’s why it is so important to bring in another good center-back next month, in case Colo or Williamson get injured.

Newcastle gave us a good belated Christmas present last Monday at Bolton, and they could send us into the new year on a high, if they can get something out of this game.

It is  the only Premier League game being played tonight, and it is being televised live around the world.

A very good time for the lads to put in a tip-top performance  for the many fans around the world – and we are hoping they can do exactly that!.

Howay The Lads!!

Even at £11 mill. He’s still been a good buy. I can’t see many £11 million players been bought in the near future tho.

    My prediction for the window.

New centre back = probably on loan

Tiote or Krul to be sold & for Pardew to tell us all the money will be reinvested……. Yawn. 😉

U’re on fire today mate 😛

    @JB
The weak link in Lpools side is Dogleash, our best bet is having Pardew out do him tactically, which shouldn’t be too hard tbh.
It’s the game of the year for me after they got Carroll and Jose from us.

Tonight will be good to see how good tactically Pards is. Raylor can`t start Downing and Johnson will rip him too peices and Pards must see this everytime Raylor has come against anyone with pace he has been left for dead.

Liverpool have a weak midfield we need to play 5 in there and completely boss it Ba has shown enough times he can do it on his own. We have too play the ball on the ground they have 2 big CB’s and with Enrique and Johnson lots of pace so crossing won’t be much of an option.

HBA needs too start he will be the key too opening the game up for us I can’t see Adam or Henderson being able too compete with him.

Time too shut up and show us Pards all this talk of exciting football with pace well stop getting the back 4 too hoof it every fu##ing time, we have the players let them play!

Agree with u there mate, Lpools defense is sealed tight atm, we need someone with the keys to unlock them, and i belive a HBA, Cabaye and Ba to unlock.
Can’t see us winning this on the flanks.

We usually need 20 crosses before a decent one goes in lol never going too get that tonight. Best and Ba won’t work HBA has performed much better than Best of late so surely he should start Pards needs to grow a pair quick.

2 things i hope for tonight

    firstly a win,

secondly, we dont play so many long balls,

looking at liverpool, this is our best chance ov beating them, suarez is out, gerrard just getting back in the team but not the player he once was,

bellamy is there biggest threat,, obertan is gona have to really help simpson out, as i think bellamy will torture simpson

Looking forward to watch the game but it could be a hode behind the sofa one
We def have the firepower but so do they.
Theyre fast on the break but we’ll stop em in the middle of the park.
Big game for Obertan tonight,he’s gonna have to pin back Enrique with some good runs.
Think we will get a penalty tonight and one of the reds getting sent off.
Would be happy with a draw, overjoyed with a win and not surprised with a loss

Liverpool away is a gut wrenching 90min’s. Good club, proper supporters but love beating them more than most for some reason. Not a Best fan but he tends to feature in our good results. I would go with Arfa and bring Shola on for last 30min’s.

Keeping Gerrard quiet is normally the key. Maxi and Belles have worrying goal threat n’all. Have to fancy our chances looking at the shape of the teams.
    HTL!

Re Mick Lowes of Radio Newcastle – Ba is a major doubt and if does not play likely to be replaced by Shola. Also he indicated that Pardew is looking to try something different up front and it does not involve Best or HBA starting! 451 perhaps?

Thats yesterdays news mate, but he does look like a great prospect tbh. Tried to find the facts on him.
Almost 0,5 goals per game, and he’s a young lad to.
Seems to have pace, skills and lots of flair. Decent finisher too. Reminds me allot of Martins.

If we’re looking at lower league players then we should be looking at a mate of mine James Mcshane – He plays for Runcorn town who look like they will be going into the Conference North next season! He has 112 goals in 126 games. http://www.runcorntown.co.uk/profile.php?id=132

On 30th December 2011, it was confirmed that Mayuka had agreed terms with Newcastle United for an undisclosed fee. Mayuka had expressed interest in joining Newcastle after claiming their fans were “the best in the world.” Mayuka will join on January 1st 2012.

It’s a load of bullocks, he’s just recently stated that a move to Newcastle or Marseille would be a dream come true.
It’s probably just something from the agent to engineer a move.
We’ve not signed him, and it’s highly unlikely that we will following Pardews statement.
Wouldn’t put much into that bud.

    @JB
    Ah, sorry, my bad.
