Newcastle may lodge a £3M bid for Sheffield United’s outstanding 18 year-old center-back, Harry Maguire.
Harry Maguire – outstanding young 18 year-old center-back
That was a story in the Sun late last month, and certainly the youngster looks an excellent player in the making, and already stands 6’3″ tall, and is still growing.
Born and bred in Sheffield, the local lad has so far played 28 times with one goal for the Blades this season, and in total has made 32 appearances.
Newcastle manager Pardew has been monitoring the powerful center-back’s form since the start of the season, and the youngster has been outstanding for the Blades.
The 18 year-old was the star performer for Sheffield in their fantastic run to the FA Youth Cup final last season, which was the Blades first FA Youth Final they had reached in 59 years.
The Blades lost the two legged final 6-3 to Manchester United last May, after drawing the first game 2-2 at Bramall Lane.
Maguire has been an ever-present this season for the Sheffield first team.
Harry made his debut after coming on as a half-time substitute and winning the Man of the Match award in the home game against Cardiff City in April of last year, and since then he has never looked back.
His only goal was scored in a 2-0 win at Oldham Athletic on the first day of the this season, and in October, in order to protect themselves as much as anything else, Sheffield signed the lad to a new four year contract through 2015.
One fact in Newcastle’s favor is that Maguire could be sold because Sheffield United are already a massive £30M in debt, and must correct their dismal financial situation soon.
We think he would be an excellent buy for the Newcastle club, and fits right into Newcastle’s strategy of buying excellent young players, who can still improve a lot on Tyneside.
