Newcastle In For Outstanding Young English Center- Back

Newcastle may lodge a £3M bid for Sheffield United’s  outstanding 18 year-old center-back, Harry Maguire.

Harry Maguire – outstanding young 18 year-old center-back

That was a story in the Sun late last month, and certainly the youngster looks an excellent player in the making,  and already stands 6’3″ tall, and is  still growing.

Born and bred in Sheffield,  the local lad has so far played 28 times with one goal for the Blades this season, and in total has made 32 appearances.

Newcastle manager Pardew has been monitoring the powerful center-back’s form since the start of the season, and the youngster has been outstanding for the Blades.

The 18 year-old was the star performer for Sheffield  in their fantastic run to the FA Youth Cup final last season, which was the Blades first FA Youth Final they had reached in 59 years.

The Blades lost the two legged final 6-3 to Manchester United last May, after drawing the first game 2-2 at Bramall Lane.

Maguire has been an ever-present this season for the Sheffield first team.

Harry made his debut after coming on as a half-time substitute and winning the Man of the Match award in the home game against Cardiff City in April of  last year, and since then he has never looked back.

His only goal was scored in a 2-0 win at Oldham Athletic on the first day of the this season, and in October, in order to protect themselves as much as anything else, Sheffield signed the lad to a new four year contract through 2015.

One fact in Newcastle’s favor is that Maguire could be sold because  Sheffield United are already a massive £30M in debt, and must correct their dismal financial situation soon.

We think he would be an excellent buy for the Newcastle club,  and fits right into Newcastle’s strategy of buying excellent young players,  who can still improve a lot on Tyneside.

What do you think?

Good old fashioned Iranian stoning is too good for Ashley.

Are we “officially” linked with anybody? Picking random players and saying we may bid for them is all well and good but these articles seem to not have much to them.

Yes he would be a good prospect but we need somebody who is experienced enough to play now i.e. a replacement for Saylor.

For those of us that had our hopes up that a striker and a couple of defenders would have been brought in, that there hasn’t been any action at all I think shows the fact that once Maiga had been paraded around for a fee we probably would never of found the true amount there was never any intention of spending anymore.

Is it wrong that every player we are linked with the first question I ask is ‘I wonder how much we’ll sell him for’?

I see the intellects are out in force today. It is incredulous that the opinions of incredibly thick individuals are deemed equal to those who actually have things worth saying.

My opinion is that we have cover in CB with Colo, Taylor and Willi thats 3 players for two slots, however with ST now out wer short cover at CB and LB with Jose gone so we need a player who can play CB and LB id love Samba at CB but he is pushing 30 i really think Bassong wud be a v.good signing at 4/5mill can play both posistions or Kaboul they are both prem proven defenders vital at CB i think id let simpson go for a small fee and put the fee toward either of the above. I think with MA we cud end up with someone like Cathcart from Blackpool tho.

There was story last week that stated that several of the players at the club has issues with Bassong over the way he left and that he would not be welcomed back, same really as he is a great player and would add much needed strength and experience

so all in all nothing strange about anything really… pointless in fact – never says anything about the running of the club let alone potential signings

@ Jb my mates old man is a die hard Sheff utd and he rates the lad however only as one for the future. He doesnt think he is currently good enough for Sheffields first team but is being played due to a lack of options. I think he is seen as promising but i’d be suprised if we threw him in the deep end.

I quite like the fact we are looking at young British talent as long as their looking to the future and not the current fix for right now.

Thats all well and good in some situations… but explain with reason why there is no backup for any of these transfers that fall through, an answer with substance would be sufficient and not just “we spent too much time on that one” b*ll*ocks!! Same in the last window and the one before that… how have they still not managed to notice things can work out in a way you dont want them to and that you have to have an alternative to work with??

We need a striker, we need a left back, we need a center half and we need a striker…. now apparently were not getting a striker, we wont get a winger unless he is for the future (about 16-19) and realistically will probably go for a second rate CB. Its not going to take a fortune to get the players we need either… loan deals are always an option aswell

    ToonChris,
Only Ruddy Marvux and his fellow tag nut Rotunda are allowed to call people thick or retarted,as for not signing anyone I think we had every intention of getting Maiga but there was no back up plan to bring in a defender as we all thought there might be,so once the Maiga deal was pulled thats left us a lot of work to do this last few weeks rather than have somebody lined up all along so I think were pretty much starting from scratch when it comes to putting a deal together for a defender.

As quoted on the official NUFC website with regards to training:

‘…the players had a small-sided game and passing drills, focusing on keeping the ball on the ground.’

I give it 5 minutes before we revert back to our hoof the ball philosophy tomorrow night.

    My team:

    GK- Krul
    RB- Raylor
    CB- Collo
    CB- Willo
    LB- Santon
    RW- Obertan
    CM- Tiote
    CM- Cabaye
    LW- Guti
    AM- Benny
    CF- Ba

The reason that 4-5-1 hasn’t really worked yet is due to the fact that Ba is not a target man and we hoof the ball up to him as if he is Carroll reincarnated. Keep the ball, pass and move and it will work.

Sack Pardew and get me as manager, I won Leauge 2 and Leauge 1 with Accrington on FM.

Even I thought for a brief couple of months that with the good start we had and the full houses again, that it might persuade the fat man to push us on and spend 15 million of which I’m sure there is in his coffers, but alas I think he will be more than happy with retaining Prem status and a top half finish as a bonus for a few extra quid placement money.

I see some saying they don’t like us signing a 2nd rate CB. Well, tbh, all we need now is backup, imo, Willo and Saylor are more than capable to do the job, infact they can do it quite well. We could well use a young gun to push em, even if they’re from the championship. You won’t sign Samba for example, saying; “Well, if we have Willo and Saylor available, u’ll be backup to them.”
CB i sone of the last places i’d replace right now, we just need to add some strong depth. And that’s what we’ll do signing Tomkins, Williams or Dunk.
They’ll be patient waiting for a spot, then grab it with both hands. It’s only way we’ll keep 4 CBs happy when they’re all fit.
