News today on the back of Newcatsle’s fabulous 3-0 win against Manchester United last night that Newcastle manager Alan Pardew has moved quickly to get in a replacement for the injured Steven Taylor.
James Tomkins – Newcastle back in with increased offer
The news today is that Newcastle are back in with an increased £4M bid for the 22 year-old West Ham centre-back James Tomkins.
The Daily Star is reporting this morning that Newcastle have decided to increase their initial offer of £2.5M for the England Under-21 defender.
While Tomkins is playing in the English second division this season, the 6’3″ defender has nevertheless been an impressive figure at the back for Sam Allardyce’s side.
The news is that London club Tottenham Hotspur may also be interested in getting the 10 times capped England U21 player to White Hart Lane, but it appears that Newcastle are in the driving seat.
However, we think this new offer for the youngster may also be turned down by West Ham, as Sam Allardyce had talked only about a massive offer persuading his club to sell their youngster.
But the superb win of last night against the Red Devils will only help Newcastle’s recruitment drive in January and in the summer too.
James is a very good player, who has played 87 times for the West Ham first team since he made his debut back in 2008.
And he fits perfectly the profile of players Newcastle want to recruit to the club, top young players who can further improve on Tyneside.
And if the Daily Star report is to be believed James has just put in a transfer request.
Wonder if James watched the game last night?
We expect to hear the West Ham response to this offer within a day or two.
Comments welcome.

Comment #41No chance would I pay more than 4 million for this lad.
He didn’t really set the world a light last season in the premiership.Saying that West Ham were shocking like.
Alan Smith even looked good In the Championship. 🙂

Comment #42Also good to see the sky commentators last night giving the scouting system some credit. Said it was good how we are finding top quality “cheap” players in the likes of Tiote, Cabaye Ba etc. Rightfully so as well, i dont think the total cost of our starting 11 all season has exceeded 35m in total and we are keeping in touch with teams who spend that on single players so that praise was well deserved

Comment #43Lee Ryder said where not interested and he’s closest to the club of all reporters so a say where not interested.. anyways we dont need Corgnet.. weve got Guthrie/Gosling//Cabaye/Tiote/Abeid and more all for that position even Taylor/Vuckic can play there

True but the lad is constantly getting injured, not saying its the same injury but he always seems to have issues. Good player when fit but regularly he just isnt

Comment #52re ba and the number 9, are you surprised he didnt want it?
All the aggro about AC going and being replced with a freebie, he would have been getting so much abuse through no fault of his own – especially when he had a slow start to the season.

Comment #53Santon still has some way to go before he steps into the class of Enrique. Give him 1 season i say, and he MIGHT be better than Enrique.
Still remember last season, where some of our best attacks depended on Enrique insane attacking ability and super crosses. What a player he was. Is probably 1 of the best left backs in the world. Shame he left us.

Talking about this last night in the pub, even though they’re different injuries they do happen all of the time I think some players are just unlucky with others its the way they are built, both get described as injury prone,I dont know which category having ya jaw broke in two places by a six foot five Geordie chava fits into though.

Comment #56WWJBD, the main reason for his injuries is probably the amount he puts his body on the line and the effort that he puts in. For example before he did his Achilles, he played for 2 games with a broken nose, and he was still committed to every header and challenge, a lot of other players would hesitate to head the ball with a broken nose.

Comment #57Demba Ba said if he was offered the number 9 he wouldnt be scared to take it but he’s more than happy with number 19.. a reckon providing he doesnt get sold in the summer Ba will 100% be the new number 9 next season

Yeah he is probably unlucky rather than his body not being able to cope but either way he doesnt stay fit. Also he doesnt get small injuries there are often long term not his fault but I dont think we can depend on him lasting a full season
LewSpi
Not doubting his commitment just his ability to last a season

Comment #59Lewspi – most other players wouldnt even play with a broken nose Taylors just so committed because he loves football and loves playing for us.. imo he’s a better defender than Cahill/Jagielka/Lescott/Jones/Smalling/Ferdinand and a dont see how he doesnt get in the team
Oh and whoever said Raylor is never taking another free-kick… Spot On haha Keep him for Corners as Cabaye aint very good at them loll.. Free kick order or take..Cabaye/Taylor/Ba

Comment #60WWJBD – Totally agree with you on the view that we cant rely on Taylor managing to play a whole season with no injury which proves we need another defender to atleast be good enough to come in when he gets injured

Comment #61I couldn’t care if our players play with explicit images of MA on the back, as long as they win. Far too much emphasis put on the number 9 shirt, in my opinion.
As Demba says, he doesn’t care who he’s playing against, what number they have on, they’re just another CB he has to get the better of, to him.

Comment #62We should seriously try getting Rhodes even if it means signing him and letting him stay with them until the summer to get them promoted.. he is some talent a reckon he would have similar if not a better effect than Shane Long who would of been an awesome signing for us

Tbh if we had a real back up CB then Saylor wouldnt of been playing with a broken nose hence why he had to for us. Was the same story with Shola last year imo yes they both wanted to play but they wouldnt of if the manager could of helped it
For me we need another starter CB sorry to say it Saylor

Comment #66So who is going to get the naming rights for our stadium, someone posted on here last night saying there was more good news to come following Virgin Moneysponsorship deal?
Congratulations to the whole team on and off the feild for a wonderful performance, Man U didn’t know how to handle us as we mixed up a long ball game with good passing possession football.
Ba is a genius and Santon looks like another brilliant addition to the squad, one or two more of Graham Carr’s finds in this window and the summer and l think we will really be in business.
My biggest delight was saved till after the final whistle when l saw the real joy and emotion on the faces of a UNITED side, money cannot buy that, its about real team building.
Take a bow all of you and Mike Ashley keep the good work up son.

Comment #67Ponderous Pardew – Exactly all Ba is interested in is when he steps out onto that pitch is to make sure he gives 100%.. which imo is a class attitude to have and it clearly works

Comment #70Obertan only touched the ball once didnt he haha.. he prefers to play upfront or something Obertan could try him ther sometime..
And on Saylor.. if he could actually stay fit a reckon he’s our best actual defender, Colo is class but he’s more of a technical defender while Taylor is just an all round battle axe defender who will tackle anything put infront of him… think its why they work so well.. BTW 3 clean sheets in 5 thats good for us and Williamson is looking very solid been very impressed since he came back from injury

Belfast – And West Ham were desperate they didnt pay £8million upfront was only something like 2million then rest on installments if they stayed up nd if he scored n w/e but when he signed his agent wanted a get out clause if they were relegated and they wer so desperate they just said aye… the bigger fools were Hoffenheim should never have agreed to that type of deal

Comment #76Rhodes is meant to be good but I havent actually seen him play (probably wont either) good scoring record but in a low league so hard to judge
If Carr rates him then I’d be happy enough (he was meant to rate Long highly in the summer) but I couldnt see Rhodes coming in straight away and getting starts would be a big step up for him

Just to clarify, AC told to put transfer request by NUFC or his advisors, Tompkins seems to be doing the same.

Comment #79On Rhodes, surly we can use our connection to Clarke, no doubt he would benefit from taking a few of our younger players on loan as part of the deal Sammy and Vukic for instance?
At 21 Rhodes ticks all the boxes of what the club say they look for in a player (other than a fee that is)
